Texas (9-1, 6-1) came out as the aggressor during its matchup with TCU and Sonny Dykes on Saturday, but had to hang on for a thrilling win. Led by Jonathon Brooks’ valiant effort, Steve Sarkisian and the Horns moved to 9-1 for the first time since 2009.

Texas prevailed by converting a late third down pass from Quinn Ewers to Adonai Mitchell in UT’s 29-26 win at Amon G. Carter Stadium on Saturday night. Here’s what the players had to say after the win.

Quinn Ewers, QB

ON HIS AND WORTHY’S CONNECTION:

“You know, from from the offseason to what (Xavier Worthy and I have) been doing in practice, just the way we go about our business. Trying to connect on certain routes has been tremendously better on our parts for sure. We put a lot of work into it.

EWERS ON BEING BACK ON THE FIELD:

“Yeah, it was great to be back out there. And I just felt like when I went right in there and I was just as comfortable as when I left. So I was just fired up to be back out there. Couldn’t thank the Lord enough to take us through it.”

ON THE BIG THIRD DOWN CONVERSION TO ADONAI MITCHELL:

“I saw one-on-one to AD (Mitchell) and I thought just give him a shot and usually it works out in our favor. And it did tonight. So it was pretty cool. Pretty cool for him to come down with that ball and you know, to get the win here again.”

Xavier Worthy, WR

WHAT WAS IT LIKE HAVING EWERS BACK ON THE FIELD AND WHAT WAS YOUR COMFORT ZONE:

“It was huge. Obviously, he’s the head of our program at the quarterback position. It was just huge, so we just rallied behind him.”

Adonai Mitchell, WR

WHAT DID MITCHELL THINK OF THE THIRD DOWN PLAY CALL IN THE FOURTH QUARTER THAT SEALED THE VICTORY:

“I loved it!”

ON THE DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY ON MAKING THAT CLUTCH CATCH:

“Credit to Quinn for just giving me a chance. We worked out a lot. And you know, we took it from the practice field to the game, and ultimately great things happened.”

ON WINNING IN NOVEMBER IN THIS ATMOSPHERE:

“I mean, it’s fun like this. This is really why you play college football. Traveling to an away game, the crowd is not going to love you. So I mean, you just kind of embrace it. You know, it’s a lot of people who would kill to be in this position, and to be hated like that. So we’ll take it lightly.”

Kelvin Banks, OT

ON HOW MOTIVATED THE OFFENSIVE LINE WAS ON THE FINAL FOURTH QUARTER DRIVES:

“Oh yeah, we’re definitely motivated. Especially because all the other close games that we’ve been having, the defensive players have been finishing up for us, and I feel like us finishing the game and running the clock down kind of was a big accomplishment for the O-line. Just making sure we get the yards and get the first downs we needed.”

Byron Murphy, DL

ON HOW MUCH PRIDE THE DEFENSIVE LINE TAKES IN ITS EFFORTS:

“We take a lot of pride in it you know, just from practicing. We practiced that in practice week in and week out, you know, getting red zone stops, getting fourth down stops, for getting goal line stops. We just feel like it that’s just what we do, we get stops.”
