Head coach Steve Sarkisian and Texas was in its bag early during its game with Chris Klieman and fellow Big 12 foe Kansas State on Saturday. Then in true Wildcats fashion, the No. 23 team from Manhattan, Kan., made a comeback due to a big-play barrage and a number of Longhorns miscues and misfortune.

Texas prevailed stuffing K-State on fourth and goal in overtime, 33-30, and moved to 8-1 on the season as we enter November. Here’s what the players said after the win in Austin.

Jahdae Barron, DB

ON THE DEFENSIVE MINDSET PREPARING OR K-STATE:

“It was our mindset. We were pissed off all week. So this is a game that we wanted and defensive line took it personal. They took it personal the whole entire game.”

ON WHAT HEW SAW FROM BARRYN SORRELL, T’VONDRE SWEAT, BYRON MURPHY ON THE LAST PLAY:

“They put up a wonderful press. Sorrell, he’s trying to get the sack, and then I seen T-Sweat trying to get a little pick (interception). He was fighting for the ball with one of our teammates.”

ON DOMINATING THE GAME THEN STRUGGLES IN FOURTH QUARTER:

“It was adversity. I mean in life, everybody gets knocked down. Just got to get back up. Sark hits on adversity is going to come, but you don’t know when it’s going to strike. But when it strikes, just make sure you’re ready for it.”

Jaylan Ford, LB

ON HOW THIS TEXAS TEAM VIEWS LACK OF RESPECT:

“Outside of this building, we feel as if we’re not respected enough. Our attitude is if we’re not going to get it, we have to go take it.”

Byron Murphy, DL

ON WHAT MESSAGE DID THEY SEND TO THE NATION AFTER HOLDING A TOP 5 KANSAS STATE RUSHING ATTACK TO A SEASON-LOW 33 YARDS:

“The message we sent was; we will not allow you to run the ball on us.”

ON HOW MUCH CONFIDENCE STEVE SARKISIAN HAS GIVEN HIM

“Sark has helped me tremendously. Just constantly putting me out there despite a shaky season. From the start, he’s just had tremendous confidence to just keep putting me out there and that means the world. As a kicker, to know that your coach has your back.
