Texas heads home this week to try to bounce back from a 35-10 loss at Georgia. Awaiting the Longhorns in Austin will be longtime rival Arkansas, whose record does not indicate the quality with which the Razorbacks have played this year… at least on one side of the ball.

Upcoming opponent: Arkansas Razorbacks

Head coach: Bobby Petrino (interim), 119-60

2025 record: 2-8 (0-6 SEC)

Last game: Arkansas lost 23-22 at LSU on November 15

Star offensive player last time out: RB Mike Washington – 12 carries, 87 yards, 1 TD

Star defensive player last time out: LB Xavian Sorey Jr. – 7 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 1.0 sack

Quarterback: Taylen Green – 182-for-293 for 2537 yards, 19 TDs, 10 INT. 125 carries for 717 yards and 7 TDs.

Offense: The Petrino-led offense is one that can put up a lot of points. In games against Power Four competition, the Razorbacks have averaged 28.9 points per game. The 2-8 record doesn’t show how Arkansas has played seven games decided by a margin of 10 or fewer points and have come out on the wrong side of all of them. Green is the point man with over over 418 plays with the ball in his hands this season, Washington is an effective runner with three 110-yard outings in his last five games.

Defense: The offensive acumen is counterbalanced by the porous defense. Arkansas is No. 88 in defensive SP+ and is No. 122 in scoring defense, allowing 32.3 points per game. When Petrino took the interim job, he cleaned out the defensive staff and installed an interim in Chris Wilson. Still, in SEC games, the Pigs have held one opponent under 30 points. Arkansas still lost that game, falling 23-22 to LSU.

Texans on the roster

Former Longhorns on the roster

  • None, though former Longhorn commit Jaden Allen in is part of the Razorbacks’ defense

This guy is on their team?

  • OL Fernando Carmona – The Razorback offense has been boosted by its offensive line and Carmona’s work at left guard has been a key part of those points on the scoreboard. He has 654 snaps this year as part of a career where he’s seen at least 750 snaps in the three preceding seasons between Arkansas and San Jose State.

All-time series: Texas leads 57-23

Last matchup: Texas put up 10 points in both halves as the Longhorns defense kept Arkansas under 250 total yards and forced two turnovers in a 20-10 win in Fayetteville. Quinn Ewers had two touchdown passes and Jaydon Blue notched 102 total yards in Texas’ ninth win of the 2024 season.
