DT Isaiah Rakes commits to USC

Texas A&M defensive lineman Isaiah Raikes entered the NCAA transfer portal, just after he wrapped up his senior season with the Aggies. Raikes took an official visit to Auburn on Jan. 3 and just concluded a Jan. 6-7 USC official visit.

On Sunday morning WeAreSC was told Raikes could announce a decision in the near future. He did finally announce his USC commitment on Tuesday afternoon via Social Media.

Shaun Nua has spearheaded USC’s recruiting effort for Raikes. This is not an insignificant addition to the defensive line from a mass perspective.

Raikes at Texas A&M

The 6-foot-2, 320-pound Raikes had plenty of experience on the Texas A&M defensive line, appearing in 42 games during his time in College Station. This past year, he totaled 17 tackles along with three tackles for loss and a sack in 12 appearances — including a start against South Carolina.

On the whole, Raikes had 43 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks across his four seasons of action. He also finished with a pass defended and a forced fumble in 2023, and he’s now the latest Texas A&M player to enter the portal after the departure of Jimbo Fisher.

Although Raikes didn’t start, he was the backup to Walter Nolen and McKinnley Jackson. Since the end of the season, Nolen transferred to Ole Miss and Jackson declared for the 2024 NFL Draft.

Isaiah Raikes played high school football at St. Augustine Prep (NJ), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 392 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Other USC Visitors

Other than Raikes, USC also hosted QB Jayden Maiava, Javier Derritt and CB commit John Humphrey.
