Another future USC Trojan is headed to Hawaii next January as running back Quinten Joyner was named to the 2023 Polynesian Bowl roster on Wednesday.

The Polynesian Bowl began in 2017 but has quickly become one of the country’s premier high school football all-star games. The 2023 edition will take place on January 20 at 7:00 pm PT at Kūnuiākea Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii. The game will air on the NFL Network. Romeo Crennel and Mark Richt will serve as head coaches for the two teams.

Joyner was a big commitment for USC in this class. The Trojans set out to add two running backs and were able to reel in Joyner following an unofficial visit in April.

The four-star back is the nation’s No. 229 overall prospect in the 2023 On3 Consensus. And he’s the No. 11 running back. At 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds, he doesn’t possess elite size or speed. But he is a terrific do-it-all back who combines excellent vision, balance, burst and toughness. He was an absolute workhorse for Manor (Tex.) High School last season. As a junior, Joyner carried the ball 223 times for 2,494 yards (11.2 yards per carry) and 31 touchdowns. He also caught nine passes for 100 yards and two more scores.

Joyner and fellow Texan A’marion Peterson give the Trojans a very talented one-two punch at running back in this class.

USC Commits in the 2023 Polynesian Bowl

This will be an all-star game Trojans fans want to watch. Joyner is the sixth future USC player to join the roster.

Five-star Plus+ quarterback Malachi Nelson and five-star wide receiver Zachariah Branch are two of the headliners for the game.

Four-star wide receiver Makai Lemon, four-star cornerback Braxton Myers and four-star offensive lineman Amos Talalele are also headed to Hawaii.

As far as USC targets, there are plenty to watch. They could certainly be committed to their school of choice by the day of the game. And many will likely have signed during the early signing period in mid-December.

Defensive lineman Matayo Uiagalelei is one of the local must-gets still available for the Trojans. The five-star prospect is the top uncommitted recruit in California.

Five-star tight end Duce Robinson and four-star tight end Walker Lyons are headed to the game.

Four-star cornerback Rodrick Pleasant recently placed USC among his top six schools.

And the offensive line could be worth watching as well. Three-star interior lineman Micah Bañuelos will commit to either Oregon, Texas A&M, or USC on July. 25. And four-star tackles Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomu remain on the USC target list.
