The USC Trojans piled up 73 points and came away with a 60-point win to open their 2025 regular season this past weekend but clearly that did not impress the Coaches Poll voters. USC remained among those “Others Receiving Votes” outside the Top 25 and actually fell a few spots there.

USC went into the regular season ranked fourth among the teams outside the Top 25, putting them at No. 29 overall. Oklahoma, Missouri and Louisville were the three teams ahead of them.

Following a dominant win, the Trojans now sit No. 31 overall, tied with Auburn. Their vote tally dropped from 116 in the preseason poll to just 41 in this Week 2 poll.

Kansas State and Boise State both dropped out of the poll and were replaced by Florida State, coming off a pretty dominant win over Alabama, and Oklahoma, which needed 14 points in the fourth quarter to finally pull away from Illinois State. Utah jumped ahead of USC after a thorough beating of UCLA. Tulane also moved ahead of USC following a win against Northwestern. Louisville and Missouri remained ahead of the Trojans.

Alabama remained in the Top 25 at No. 20 after a loss. Texas (No. 6), Clemson (No. 8) and Notre Dame (No. 9) are all still in the To p10 following close losses to highly-ranked teams.

It might be more of the same for the Trojans this weekend as USC welcomes to the Coliseum a Georgia Southern team that just got blasted on the road by Fresno State.

USC will still have opportunities later in the year to impress the pollsters and College Football playoff committee. The Trojans will visit No. 12 Illinois, No. 9 Notre Dame and No. 5 Oregon. They’ll also host No. 13 Michigan. But it’s clear the early nonconference schedule won’t do much to change the preseason thoughts nationally, despite the Trojans looking very good in that opener.
