WeAreSC On3 8/3/22: Maliki Crawford Commits, Shelby Announcing Saturday, and Remaining Draft Picks Sign

WeAreSC On3 is a daily three-point briefing recapping news and notes surrounding USC Athletics. Today, we take a look at Maliki Crawford committing to USC, Braylan Shelby’s upcoming decision, and the Trojans’ remaining MLB Draft picks signing.
Maliki Crawford Commits
USC picked up a commitment yesterday from four-star cornerback Maliki Crawford.
A native of Oxnard, California, Crawford is the number 307 player and the number 34 cornerback in the class of 2023, according to On3 Consensus. He chose the Trojans over UCLA and Cal.
Crawford is USC’s 14th commit in the 2023 class. He is also the third defensive back in that group, joining Braxton Myers and Christian Pierce.
Shelby Announcing Saturday
Top USC target Braylan Shelby is set to announce his college decision on Saturday.
A four-star edge rusher from Friendswood, Texas, Shelby will choose between USC and Texas. Currently, the Trojans appear to be the favorite to land the talented prospect.

On3 Consensus ranks Shelby as the number 138 player and the number 19 edge rusher in the class of 2023.

Remaining Draft Picks Sign
Last week, pitcher Matt Keating became the first of USC’s four MLB Draft picks to sign with his new team. Earlier this week, the remaining Trojan draftees inked their deals as well.
First, the New York Mets officially signed shortstop D’Andre Smith and outfielder Rhylan Thomas. In addition, the Cleveland Guardians signed utility infielder Tyresse Turner.
New USC Baseball coach Andy Stankiewicz now faces the tall task of trying to rebuild the roster while also having to replace several of the team’s top players from the previous year.
