Is it the more with less award?? I’d be for it if he forked over some money for NIL. I’d be for it if he could convince the Trustees to support their highly paid coach with a bigger allocation for players. Instead of I want more money for me how about I want more money for players?? Use his leverage to help the program. Sorry for the rant.
Few coaches are going to donate their own money. But there's no excuse for SHU to not up the figure from last year's number of $6M.

I’m very surprised. It honestly feels like he’s getting rewarded for being terrible last year. If he won 2-3 more games last year would he have won the award this year? Then throw in the fact we didn’t beat a top 3 team. It just doesn’t feel that great.
Two of the worst kept secret in the last few days. I do not know the final totals on Sha but it might have been unanimous.
Well, let’s hope the posters who this year wanted Shaheen fired will shut up for a year about that subject. The guy can coach. Hopefully, he gets the money to get players that can really get the Hall over the top.
Money doesn’t guarantee a great team. Reportedly, Kentucky spent $22 million and has 19 wins. Even if they spent half that figure, that has to be pretty disappointing and goes to show you money doesn’t guarantee anything.

It does seem like he's viewed better by our contemporaries than many of the posters here as evidenced by the poll I posted above.
If memory serves when I asked for comments from our readers on who should get the COY award, very few mentioned Holloway.
Personally I thought it would be a near dead heat between Sha and Willard. But it looks like even that favorable opinion was not even close.

What historical reputation got to do with anything in this new world? What were your expectations for SHU in the preseason?
One might say biased and fanatical about some non fan posters too.
Good to see the bias and fanaticism of the SH fans here influenced the Associated Press and Big East coaches.
Many here cant wait to rip a player or coach. Many others here would rather bite their tongue and not have a SHU fan forum filled with negative rants.
I'd say most coaches are viewed better by contemporaries compared to the posters here. How many examples do we have of that, just based on this season alone?
I don't think anyone who posts on the Trove, or even the free board, "can't wait" to rip a player or coach of Seton Hall. One wouldn't be posting here if that was the case (who has the time to post and follow if you aren't a fan). I think some posters simply have different opinions and try to evaluate our players and coaches no different than they would evaluate them if they were part of a different program.
I do think that certain posterswho go out of their wayto constantly spew negative views have an agenda. Some are just negative people who can't see anything positive about life. Some are trolls looking to purposely aggravate our diehard fans. Criticism is certainly fair game on message boards but as HallDan points out, those who are so one sided in their views no matter what the facts suggest lose all credibility in their opinions.
I think it is more just glass half full versus glass half empty personalities. Or folks who are just "firm" in their views. There is an assumption that fandom is always "one-sided" in a positive manner, but no one cares about the unrealistically or unobjectively positive takes.
This is one of the most positive fan forums I have come across, seriously. If you think this is bad you haven't seen any other P5 basketball or football board. I'm not happy or angry that Sha won BE coach of the year - I don't really care much. Personally, I'm not going to remember 5 years from now "that was the season Sha won COY"
It also doesn't change the opinion I have on him as a coach. I'm glad he's the coach here but something needs to give on the offensive end moving forward for the program to take the next step. I think he's capable of it.

And that's where my curiosity went as soon as it was announced that he won because like many of you I think he deserves a kudos but respectful denial at this point. I've said I would play hardball on that but if you do accept the reality he may look for greener pastures. Some are shocked to read that but its the reality of saying no offering him a raise.

You’re giving them way too much credit.
Focus on NIL (vs. rev share) seems misleading and/or coach poorly informed, since by the accounts here we were not at bottom of league in terms of resources this season.
it is as important for us as fans, as it is for the outside view of the program; is important for kids from schools all across the country to feel like they can make a good decision coming to play here (money of course being the "in the door" factor).
The external perception of our program is usually not good (and not helped by comments like Pitino made) so every bit of positive PR we should be happy for,
and this is, at minimum, positive PR
The NIL portion of the budget is still ridiculous.
And some guys still can’t bring themselves to say that they’re happy or proud that Holloway got the award.

Excellent points. You'd think the detractors would see that. Instead they're chewing on glass, coming up with illogical reasons why it shouldn't have happened, and making assumptions about using the award for personal gain (classic transference).
That just seems like a bad job now.
Dan predicted this downfall years ago, as I recall, although it probably started a bit later than he thought. It is more consistent with the norm of what happens when teams have to replace a coaching legend. Anecdotally, it seems like the "next guy" or "guys" don't work long term even if there is short term success.
Will say this though: read somewhere recently that Cuse was still top 5 nationally this season in home attendance. So anyone is still going to a gig where you have a rabid fan base which usually leads to more $$ and support.
So happy and excited for Sha, his staff, the players and the school.... he deserved it. Anyone who has ever managed people, whether in sports, military or business knows how essential it is to get everyone on the same page and how hard it is in the sports world when you consider the current environment.
I have to believe that the message Sha is passing on to the players is one of thanks and acknowledgement for the part they played in getting this recognition. They have to be proud of their coach and proud of themselves for the part that they played in his getting this award. Sha had the vision and the ability to get his message across and they bought in, worked hard and executed. Same goes for the staff.
It takes something like this to add that extra spark as we enter the BET. Is there magic waiting to unfold in the Garden? Go Pirates!!!
