Two things.

1. I have been told the voting for the award has already happened. Don't understand why but two people I trust told me that.

2. Talking to people in the business they have convinced me to change my mind and thus....

1A Willard
1B Holloway

Take your pick

3A Hurley
3B Pitino

Also take your pick

Opinions????

Only change to this is I would have put Pitino Sr in that first group, probably second.

I think Willard will win it, but I don’t think he deserves it. IMO, you don’t give it for mediocrity.

Sha doesn’t deserve a vote. Likely 0-8 vs the top 5 teams and 1-9 vs the top 6 teams. No way.

It should go to Hurley or Pitino. 18-2 is outstanding even if the BE is really really down.

A win tonight would help Sha's cause, but alas the votes are already in.

Gonna be tough to beat old man Rick when he’s got three votes locked up and in the bag: Willard, Rick Jr. and himself (Rick Sr. will find a way around any rule that prevents self-voting). Uphill battle for everyone else.

So when the Big East is down, our record is inflated. And the two coaches with by far the biggest war chest should win COY. Got it.

18-2 or 10-10 ??? 0-8 vs the top teams. He doesn’t deserve a vote.

I’m not saying he hasn’t done a good job or that he didn’t learn from last year. But he shouldn’t sniff a vote.

You are consistently as off-base as any poster I can remember here in 20 years, except maybe the other 3 in your cohort that have been harping once the 14-2 start levelled off. It's at the point of parody. And you obviously don't realize that COY doesn't go to the team finishing first every year. No one hates Seton Hall more than a Seton hall fan.

You can't vote for yourself no matter who you are.

What has Sha done to deserve COY? 4th place finish is good, no one is knocking that. But when you take a deeper dive, he’s likely 0-8 vs Uconn, Stj, Nova, and Depaul. Add in 1-1 vs Creighton. He’s 1-9 be the top 6 teams in conference. I’m sorry that doesn’t equal COY!!!!!

18-2 is 100x better than 10-10 no matter how you slice it. Idc how much more NIL or resources they have available.

Thinking that most voted him last. Coming in 4th gives him a good chance.

It would be stunning to me if this award goes to anyone else outside of two coaches who are going to finish 18-2 or 17-3. It would make a mockery of the award if it didn't go to either Hurley or Pitino.

Willard is 0-4 vs. the top two teams. Holloway is 0-5 (pending tonight) against the top two plus Willard. Neither one of them should even be in the discussion. If Hurley and Pitino weren't running away with the league, then you could talk about Willard or Holloway. But that isn't the case. 18-2/17-3 is a big deal, even in a down year.

So dumb by the BE

How could anyone vote for Hurley or Pitino not knowing if one of them could finish 17-3 behind the other?

just wait until all the results are in.

I don’t think you can give these awards to guys who don’t finish with winning records. So that’s down to 3.

Sha did well in exceeding what everyone thought, myself included. Gave us some hope. We played St. John’s and Connecticut tough as nails in all 4 games. Pull 1-2 of them out and he gets the award.

I actually went back and looked at this historically to see the records of every team for COY winners. PJ won it with a .500 record in 87-88 (which I didn't remember). John MacLeod, of all people, won it with a losing record in 96-97 (8-10). Leonard Hamilton won it as well at 9-9 with Miami in 94-95.

I'm not sure it has ever happened that a coach whose team had that strong/dominant of a record didn't win the award. I did a deep dive on this earlier because I was curious if a coach with a .500 record ever won COY (two have, including PJ), and even a coach sub .500 by a game won the award (John MacLeod at ND, which I didn't recall). But when you see the last, most of the guys presiding over teams with 2 or 3 league losses total end up winning COY. This year we have 2 though (if Uconn wins tomorrow) that will have matched the 18 win record that Hurley and Pitino set in back-to-back years.

Wow, some names.

To me it just feels odd to be .500 and get a COY award, but people think so lowly of Seton Hall's resources and think Sha is doing yeoman's work. Media too. Nobody had any respect for this team, from our own fans to them so I could see it happening under that mindset.

It should be Hurley. If Holloway gets it, it will be comeback COY or others feel sorry for him. Seems that we went from being awful to mediocre.
I don't see many voting for Pitino because he is naturally unlikeable, and he plays the new system better than anyone else.

He’s unlikable to who? And didn’t he play the old system better than anyone else too

Unlikeable to most other coaches. They know what he’s done. Who he has thrown under the bus. Not a good guy. His moniker fits. In fact slick Rick might be the most charitable thing you can say about him. But wins and losses he’s HOF.

You must not know many coaches because that is very inaccurate

I mean I’ve been following college basketball forever, and what he said couldn’t be further from the truth from everything I’ve read or heard on TV for 30+ years.
So ur saying Pitino is well liked and well thought of by his brethren? Not the Kevin or Ralph Willard’s who worked for him but the coach community at large. They like and respect him as a person? Not as a winning coach but as a person. Just to be clear.

Yes he is very well liked and respected

What does “as a person” have to do with anything

UConn and St.John’s backed by huge NIL. Sha did more with less.
