Big East road wins are gold. Loved how they played in the final 2 minutes. Big performances from Payne and Simpkins. Williams was big on D and Budd does what he does. Took Oswun to his spot and sank the game-clincher over the 6'10 shot-blocker.

Budd is the best shooter in the country from the mid-range right elbow. Average D1 FG% from that spot is 37%, he came into the game at 61.5% (8 for 13). Went to his bread and butter for the game-clincher after making the great move and find for Simpkins Three on the prior possession. A PG who makes winning plays late means Victories.

Simpkins has such a smooth game. Hines out, ASM a non factor, but Payne goes nuts.

A fun team.
What a performance from Simpkins. So many big shots and a cooool 8 for 9 from the line. I said the other day that as good as he's been I felt he has another level. Today he showed his best, was good on D also.

And Payne, what can you say. Stepped up big time. 18 points & 16 rebounds and hit 2 huge Free Throws when it mattered most. He also had Owsun in foul trouble all game which hurts Providence badly because he's their only defensive presence. When he was on the bench, the Pirates could attack the paint. And Payne did well to keep himself out of Foul Trouble knowing he didn't have the big young fella backing him up.

If you told me we would lose Points off Turnovers 19-12, Fast break points 10-4 and Free Throws 24-17 I wouldn't like our chances. But we matched their 5 Three's in less attempts, outrebounded them and outscored them on 2-pt FGs 40 to 28.

Both bigs had 4 fouls with more than 6 minutes to go. Amazing

Word coming out of preseason practice was Simpkins was the team's best player. Then we watched the Blue/White scrimmage and he was the no doubt about it best Pirate on the floor.

Going into the season, despite being told and posting on the Trove that Mike Williams was the surprise player on the roster I never expected to see Simpkins riding the pines at the opening whistle. But watching this team now and seeing that Simpkins is playing starter minutes, I strongly believe that Holloway nailed it bringing Tajuan 'instant offense' Simpkins off the bench.

Guess that's why I'm sitting here on my computer and Holloway is the coach of the Pirates.

BTW, major shoutout to Jerry Carino who all preseason long because of his contacts had been singing the praises of the 6-5 2G.

If I recall correctly Jerry had Greg Herenda on his podcast pre-season and Herenda was enthusiastically singing the praises of Simpkins at that time.

Close but I think its closer to 3 or 4. If Coleman got 1.2, I estimate Simpkins at 300 or 400k. The way Simpkins and Coleman have been playing, Tajuan is proving to be the better player regardless of salary. Coleman is 1 for 14 from 3, Simpkins is 16 for 32.
Oklahoma State would’ve gotten more out of Gary Coleman or the butler from Trading Places.

I also think having symptoms on the floor when Clark needs a break gives them a very capable ball handler because Parker can struggle sometimes at the PG. The other nice thing about his game is that he draws a lot of fouls when he drives. Helps that he’s a great foul shooter.

Is it me or does it always seem like Sha is yelling at Mike Williams. I don’t know if he’s riding him or aggressive in his encouragement. But Mike is always on the floor during critical times, especially at the end. His defense, effort and timely offense have been glue-like.

Only weakness tonight was FTs. 🤯 Make 1/2 (5) of the missed FTs (10) and a comfortable W. Nice win.
yes. i a sure we all said these missed fts will kill us. If hines not playing doesnt kill us first. Or suppose AJ finally has a bad game. Or will the big bad pc arena and fans mess up the BE debut for our team?

Nope.

Yes, I’m big on Coleman. Many posters are laughing saying Coleman’s numbers are way down this year. Remember Clark’s numbers are wayyyyy down, Simpkins numbers are significantly down, Payne’s numbers are lower, Fisher is playing the worst ball of his career statistically. Don’t just look at the numbers

Defense was definitely better in the first half than the second. Some of that can be attributed to keeping Payne out of foul trouble.
Also, AJSM & Williams were definitely affected by the physicality of this game.
