I never disparaged my son’s t ball coach, but a UK offensive coordinator probably shouldn’t be impressed by the organization of a t ball team that his kid isn’t on.

We got constant pressure on their QB basically the entire game and the two new RBs are total studs. But man, Calzada and some of Hamden’s play calling leaves a lot to be desired. Kiffin, if he’s able will absolutely stick it to us next Sat, Spurrier style.
Agreed. I told my buddies at the start of the game that I thought Calzada threw a pretty ball. I think I’m correct on that. The problem is those pretty balls often end up 15 yards from the intended target.

Game aesthetics
Atmosphere of a county fair. Everyone standing around waiting for something to happen.
Replay board operated by roookies.
no Grove Street. Time honored traditions of minimal college scores and no WiFi. Give us one or the other at least. Traffic leaving game has to get better.

from my end zone, Afari played well, shoestring tackles, looks like they will key on him, and good running teams will break a few off. We will not get that pass rush against bigger teams. Kiffin will take advantage of over the middle crossing routes.

If we DON'T get a consistent rush, Kiffin will take advantage of the entire route TREE.

I'd LOVE to make him miserable going home, but it's hard to muster much confidence. It might be irrational, but if was going to be a night game I'd somehow feel better about it. A crowd that's been drinking all day always comes out more rowdy and fired up.

The line right now is Ole Miss giving 10.5

As a head coach, Kiffin offenses have generally struggled a bit against Kentucky. I think he's 3-1 against us with all of the games being settled by less than a td (and 2 of the wins being in OT).

Ole Miss wants to constantly take deep shots/crosses but Brad White's "sit back in a zone and let the other team make a mistake" gameplan seems to frustrate it a bit.

Maybe we get worked but I don't fear this Ole Miss offense anymore than anyone else we play in conference.

Shannon Dawson is an offensive genius.

Forgot to mention, the pre-game video, prior to the entrance of the team, featured Stoops speaking in what seemed like, “sorry we’re gonna suck this year, but we’re going to fight!” That’s a way to capture the base.

Butch Hamdan and Rich Scangarello have VERY similar career paths. A lot of lateral moves, limited growth, short stints at a lot of places. Not saying Butch is going to be Rich, but he better step up soon or it won't look too good.

For the most part all 27 of the fired O-Coordinators we have had under Stoops have either made a lateral move or no move at all. That should tell you something about his ability to judge talent.

Liam Coen is now the HC of the Bucs, so at least he has that going for him. I think Stoops could resurrect the corpse of the great Bill Walsh and make him look bland and ordinary as a play caller.

You can put lipstick on piglet, but he’s still a piglet. Hopefully, he’s gone this year, we desperately need a new coach.

Hopefully, everyone has been doing a deep dive into the stock market information. We just passed the market being valued at over 200% of GDP. That’s worse than it was in 2008, just waiting for the bubble to burst and make a huge lick like I did then. Love it when dead money just keeps pouring in.

Had a friend try to tell me we’re all getting a rebate check from all the money the tariffs are bringing in. I told the idiot, you mean you might get some of the money back you’ve paid from the National Tax. 😂😂

If I were a head college football coach, my strategy in terms of who I hire for the OC position is this:
  1. Experienced OC who is considered an offensive genius
  2. Guy I know will stick around for multiple years because consistency is important
To that end, if I have an opening, here is what I'm looking for in order.
  1. Great OC who isn't ever going to be offered a HC position (e.g. an offensive version of Monte Kiffin)
  2. Great OC who just isn't worth a **** as a HC (e.g., Josh McDaniels).
  3. Up and Coming OC who will stay at least 3 years before taking over an HC job (e.g., Chad Morris at Clemson)
  4. Great OC who just embarrassed himself as a HC and needs redemption (e.g., Sark, Lane Kiffin)
  5. 20-something, shot in the dark OC who you may just get lucky with (e.g., Charlie Weis Jr.)
  6. Middling OC who ain't going nowhere and will provide consistency year to year (e.g., Eddie Gran)
  7. Up and coming OC who views you as a stepping stone and can't wait to get out of there (e.g. Coen)
  8. Middling sometimes QB coach / sometimes OC who jumps around from job to job (e.g., Hamdan)
  9. Journeyman flunky who is usually just a position coach and gets fired wherever he goes (e.g., Scang)
I am aware that budgets and prestige come into play and dudes like Sark, Kiffin and Josh McDaniels aren't going to Kentucky. But damn, dude, I'd either go really young or keep rolling the Eddie Gran types out there. Hamdan, even if he turned out to be a stud, would have left in a year or two.

By the way, there is NEVER a reason to hire somebody on the #8 or #9 line if you are an SEC program.

QB - rough, but I didn't think he looked quite as bad as the stats show. Missed on most of the long balls, but at least 4 of them hit receivers in the hands. Even if those are caught, it's a pedestrian effort.
OL - very good. Noticed the right side letting some guys through a few times. No bad snaps! NO PENALTIES!
RB - good not great. Dowdell looks solid and had some juice on that long run. Smoked those DBs in a foot race. McGowan might be one of those guys that tries to look shiftier than he is. Lots of pointless shaking and juking. Just hit the hole man.
TE - would've been perfection if Rodriguez holds the ball with two hands. Even after the fumble, he and Kattus kept doing it. Lucky we only fumbled one. Love that we appear to be using them in the passing game.
WR - oof

DL - might not have the name recognition of recent years, but they looked excellent. Love the aggressiveness and twitchiness.
LB - Very good. Loved Afari's effort
DB - Very good. The length and athleticism is evident.

ST - pretty much perfect with the exception of fielding punts. IDK why we continue to be shaky there. Multiple preseason quotes from the staff about Bryant being good at it because he was a centerfielder had me worried. That's not the same thing.

OC - Terrible. No rhythm, no feel, no layups to get Calzada going, baffling situational play calls. Hamdan is garbage.
DC - Killed it. The defense looked in sync. Toledo's late scores were against backups. All three levels were good. Got lots of pressure we are always screaming for, and it came naturally without a bunch of exotic blitzes. That's the mark of a good Stoops defense.

Overall, it was just okay. Finished about where Vegas predicted. Played with discipline. Played aggressive defense. Threw to the TEs. IMO, the passing game is fixable, but I don't expect Hamdan to do it. There needs to be a short leash, with Gran ready to take over.

He would do better than Bush. No OC under Stoops has been able to create a dynamic passing offense. Even Coen, the whiz kid Sean McVay protege who is now an NFL HC in his 30s, and had a borderline 1st round QB, with multiple NFL pass catchers and an NFL O line, wasn't able to get us to 3,000 passing yards. Gran was probably second best. Came in with an air raid reputation and was the architect of the most fun UK offense since Woodson, without a QB.

The only other one that has had success is Shannon Dawson. "In his second year at the helm of Miami’s offense in 2024, Dawson orchestrated the nation’s No. 1 unit in both points per game (43.9) and yards (537.2)."

Between that and Coen tells me that Stoops is limiting the offense with his philosophy. When you get an OC with less talent it's a divorce waiting to happen.

Wilcox's absence is no longer a mystery. He had an EPO filed against him on August 20. This tweet appears to have the EPO petition.

I thought McGowan did ok. Keep in mind he has been battling a nagging injury. Even with that, 78 yards (4.4 ypc) and a TD. Not the worst I have seen by any means. If 78 yards and a TD is a bad game, I will take it. RB's combined for over 200 yards and 2 TD's, stellar.

I posted it before the game, the OC has to call the type of plays that made Calzada successful previously. You can't mold him into something new, call and run the type of sets he does well, do not try to force a square peg into a round hole. It will ruin a QB's confidence.
