Need him—even if only for 10-12 min.

Keep working Godswill back in slowly. He can give 8 min with Payne in for 20-22

It really isn’t given the circumstances. He was having problems with Gold. Hard to argue with Sha given Paynes numbers.
Payne played well offensively, but struggled defensively. And you don’t want your starting center to play 30 plus mins

A layoff? He missed 2 games. He can’t play 15 mins?
It’s really not that complicated Sha will not play anyone who doesn’t practice

he was probably annoyed that the return to play took so long (most likely didn’t agree with it) kid missed all the practice and he took it out on his playing time

Payne deserves 30 minutes a game the way he has played. Hines will need to come off the bench as a 10 to 15 minute player at this point.

I would rather Payne play less than that. I really believe our fans don't understand how physically exhausting it is for bigs to play at this level.

Plus we badly need Hines back next season and his playing 10 minutes or so a game will cause a problem.

Keep it close to 50/50 with whichever center is playing better getting the majority of the minutes.

I thought Hines looked a step slow and it was due to his layoff. Payne obviously had a terrific game. fwiw Gold beat him to the hoop a time or two. Gold had a career high, mostly against payne. Coaches have always had to consider next year as they dole out pt, niw mire than ever. Had no issue with center pt vs mu, but like it 20/20.

for Payne’s 2 great games? You need to play Hines, especially if you want to keep him for next year

You should absolutely play a young man who has recently been concussed and has a couple of nagging injuries 20 or more minutes a night -- even on a night his counterpart is clearly outplaying him.

Hines had 6pts, 2rebs, 2blocks in 8mins. Also, didn’t miss a shot from the field or a ft. So no Payne wasn’t clearly outplaying him.

Not for nothing, but the other guy had the most rebounds by a SHU player in a win since 1977!

A great “problem” to have.

Hines is also better than Payne. Which is saying something considering how well Payne has been playing. Hines needs to play (a lot) for us to be the best version of ourselves, but Payne has 100% earned his place. A 50/50 platoon is probably the right move with these guys.
