Another nationally televised game, another beat down, so let’s not even get into the details. It’s time for coach to go. Bottom line. You have made some great hires thus far when making changes in our Olympic sports. This one should be next, and it shouldn’t be difficult, because New Jersey is loaded with women’s lacrosse talent.

Get it done Sir Hobbs!!

AYN I know there was the unusual Flood/Rice mess, but do you think Pat Hobbs would let two coaches,Brand and Litterio, go within days of each other or maybe one of them gets another year? Are there any buyouts for them and their assistants? Would you go top NJ high school coaches, assistants from major college programs or maybe a head coach from a minor school who has some background at a major school? As we have done with softball

As far as I'm concerned, there are 3 spring coaches in legitimate danger of being fired: Brand Sias who could be fired as early as tomorrow, Litterio, and the women's T&F coach who has been flying under the radar. I'd like to fire at least 2 of the 3 personally, preferably Brand Sias and Litterio.

If they drop W LAX , they can then add Women's wrestling (title IX). The state of NJ is ahead of the curve with Women's wrestling. And would draw more fans. !
oops- just realize the Big 10 doesn't have women's wrestling. Yet.. What's Delaney's email ? lol

1) absolutely NO reason both can’t be canned ESPECIALLY of their contracts are up; this isn’t football and basketball

2) women’s Lax isn’t getting dropped. Bet on it.

We just did a ground breaking for a facility that will be 25% dedicated to WLax. So now we’re gonna drop the program for women’s wrestling ? I mean it would be the NJ thing to do but sometimes I can’t help but shake my head at some of the things people post on here. Absolutely mind blowing to me.

I’m not as convinced LBS is getting fired as some of you. I’m sure she’s going to sell all the youth in the program when she meets with her boss. Don’t underestimate the fact that except for a cup of coffee at Fairfield she’s basically been here since 1995 when her college playing career started.

I agree, she’s been basically non-competitive in the Big Ten and was mediocre at best in the Big East.

The fact that she's been here since 95 and hasn't done squat to me makes me think Hobbs would be MORE likely to fire her. Look at women's crew, Hobbs fired the idiot who was stealing money here for decades and in Year 2 under Price, has the team ranked and likely headed to NCAAs.

Well, she was a player back then but I get your point. A change is long overdue, no argument.

I told you guys this wasn't a slam dunk. I know it's "only" WLAX but if LBS is kept on, it's indicative of the lack of urgency in the athletic department to field a winner.

Jesus Shill it’s Monday morning give it a rest buddy. Just because a couple guys here say “by Sunday night” doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen; merely opinion.

Hobbs has shown he WILL get rid of Olympic sport dead weight IF their contracts are up. Pretty sure, however, he hasn’t fired ANY of them 2 days after the season ended on a weekend.

Wasn't there a Power Five school football coach who was fired in the hallway after an away game a few years ago?

He will handle this professionally but she has got to go she is just not a good coach and as I have said with the right coach we can be top ten in 2 years; PS I don't care if she has ayear left on her contract because if she did that is Hobbs doing as any contract she is under was done under Hobbs tenure

You’re right. Folks continue to amaze on here. It’s mind blowing actually. If people expected Hobbs to come in an fire every Olympic coach, they were delusional. He was left a lot of dead wood to trim and he’s gone about it methodically. As far as I can tell, he’s done well as most of the replacements appear to be substantial upgrades. Respectability has been brought back to several of these programs.

I am all on board with Hobbs waiting for contracts to expire before replacing non revenue sport's coaches ... the exception being the sports where the local talent is above the national average - which i think we have here ...if football was not hemorrhaging revenue eating a year or 2 of cheap contract would far out weigh the negative articles on nj.com for the potential quick fix a decent coach could make here

I've seen you mention this a few times now that you think a new coach can have a top-10 team in two to three years. Why do you think it will be so quick? because of girls lacrosse talent in New Jersey? My sense is it will take several years like field hockey.

I hope I am wrong but I don't recall us having a nationally ranked program in women's lacrosse for a long time so not sure why u think it will take such a short period of time.

Softball also seems to be improved this year and it is only the first year of the current coaching regime.

For the record, according to a news article, Hobbs dismissed the previous softball coach five days after the season ended.

Cool. So maybe by Friday we should have a clear idea of what Brand Sias's fate is.

There are 3 top areas right now for girls lacrosse they are New Jersey, Long Island and Maryland; There are other up and coming areas but these are the tops; If you can recruit New Jersey and develop the talent which she has never done you can be a top ten program in 2-3 years. One example is Florida which didn't even have a program and they were in a final four within 4 years.
In answer to your second line the reason you don't remember is because she has been the coach for 17 years and we have basically been mediocre at best.

thanks

sounds very similar to Field Hockey...and it still took several years to turn things around (and Meredith is a great coach).

2-3 years to be top ten seems a bit unrealistic to me.

With regard to women's tennis, we beat Nebraska and Penn State this year. The head coach is relatively new. Assistant coach who just started with us is Catarina Lindqvist who is a former professional player who made it to the semifinals of Wimbledon and the Australian Open. I doubt any other Big Ten teams can claim to have a coach with such credentials. We got the NJ state champ last year and it looks like a pretty good transfer coming in from Texas tech next year. Tennis just needs a couple good players to insert in the line up to be competitive in the Big Ten. I would say, like most sports, the facilities are holding us back. While football gets a new multimillion dollar (unnecessary) locker room, the rest of the Olympic teams have to wait in line for the crumbs. Need to give them some time to let things shake out.

Thanks for the info about the team. I asked because I noticed the head coach just completed her third season (according to scarletknights.com) and she has actually been with the team since at least 2012 (the website says she has been with the team since the Big East).

I was really asking the question because I don't know, rather than stating an opinion. If they are improving or have done better recruiting then sounds like this is one to give more time. It appears they only went 1-10 in conference this year so that improvement wasn't apparent to me.

In general, your last point is incorrect. Hobbs is the best thing that has ever happened at Rutgers for these sports. Many have gotten new practice facilities (or they are being built) or other upgrades like more scholarships. I don't know where tennis stands as far as scholarships goes.

It won't surprise me if this happens next week (if it is indeed going to happen). I understand that Big Ten AD spring meetings are this week in Arizona. I'd imagine this type of move would wait until Hobbs returns from that. Thus, no reason to conclude it won't happen if it doesn't happen this week.
That's very important information. Thank you for bringing that to our attention. Hobbs might not send her to the unemployment line until after the B1G spring meetings.

The football team locker room is most definitely necessary.
