That’s Cooley’s quote.Ah, Jerry. Always delivers : )
I'm more inclined to agree with this although Hines is clearly outperforming Payne at this point in the season. Hines almost always picks up a quick 2 fouls.I fear two things with Hines.
If he starts
1 Imm foul trouble
2 What will he have left in the second half
I would rather he starts the second half than the first.
Plus with a week off hopefully Payne's ankle will improve.
I don’t agree with this…Sha loves Payne. I don’t think Hines will ever see mins in the high 20s.If he can handle it he'll get it.
Do you believe that Sha doesn't see what we see? It's up to the big man to stay on the court. If he could get in better shape Sha would play him in the high 20ies.
Yup, Holloway mentioned this during the presser. Hines can’t keep up with teams that want to score in the 80s & 90s— ie Creighton and X who play five out. Gtown was a perfect matchup to utilize Hines and he came thru.It also helps Hines that Georgetown doesn’t have a 5 who can step out and shoot.
Didn't Sha mention that Payne had an ankle injury after the DePaul loss? In that case, week off will help. Agree... need both bigs to come up big.I'm more inclined to agree with this although Hines is clearly outperforming Payne at this point in the season. Hines almost always picks up a quick 2 fouls.
Today was an ideal situation we should look to continue. Having Hines available for the entire 2nd half made the difference.
Have to also hope that Payne can improve with this week off. He was great for the first half of the season and plays hard but it's obvious the injuries have taken a toll and hurt his ability on the court. We still need both Bigs to contribute if we are going to do what we need to over these last 3 games.

Case in point, Hines played five minutes in the first half on Saturday. He picked up two fouls within 55 seconds of each other leading to his departure.I fear two things with Hines.

What’s missing is the context of the fouls. Not trying to knock Hines at all but he commits typical freshman fouls of not moving his feet, not reading the play that’s developing quick enough, and some lazy fouls as opposed to using his 5 fouls to make opposition earn something at the line instead of an easy 2Case in point, Hines played five minutes in the first half on Saturday. He has 62 fouls in 442 minutes which is one every 7.1 minutes. For some context, Payne has 69 fouls in 594 minutes -- or one every 8.6 minutes.
While not a huge difference, that matters if you consider Hines your more valuable player.
Exactly. If he’s out 2nd best player he needs to be on the courtMaybe Hines gets tired but he can certainly play more than 12 minutes against St. John’s, 10 minutes against DePaul, and 7 minutes against Creighton. Unless there is something going off the court, that usage is indefensible.
Except for the last one, only off by a foot and a headband lolNo Dick. Both pictures above are of Hines.
Bring back Melvyn Oliver’s personal trainer. What is the staff doing to get Hines in shape?.was he on campus all summer? He needsa little tough love to light a fire umder him . He'll be squandering a lot of opportunities if he doesn't take care of his body. Hey.... he's getting paid now.... no excuse.
This is a serious issue, even for a Holloway supporter like myself.I cringe watching Sha's pressers especially when he sits on the corner of the table and listens closely to everything the players say and interupts them and critiques them after they answer questions. He is the ultimate control freak and that gets hard after a while. We may lose players because of money but there are probably other reasons too. He is just too on top of them IMO.

You earn PT. Maybe he isnt earning it.You don't improve your stamina sitting on the bench.
Sha is clearly a control freak. So are most college coaches, each in his own way. Sha is more blatant about it than most and it's often not pretty.I cringe watching Sha's pressers especially when he sits on the corner of the table and listens closely to everything the players say and interupts them and critiques them after they answer questions. Well we do have a 7'2" kid on the bench who was given a ship and should be able to run up and down the court and even clog up the post on D for a few minutes. Geeze he can't be that dysfunctional. I saw him play in the last few minutes of some of the early games and he has some knowledge of the game.Yes, he mentioned Payne's ankle after the last 2 games.
On Hines' getting more minutes in Georgetown game:
I thought he was giving us something that Steph wasn’t giving us, so I think this will be good for Steph once he gets his ankle back to 100 percent this week.”
On Payne’s health after DePaul game:
“He hurt his ankle at Creighton, but he’s a tough kid. And Godswill couldn’t practice yesterday, and that leaves you with these two guys again. Something with his knee yesterday in practice.”
Hines needs to learn how to screen without fouling. At least once a game it seems. What’s missing is the context of the fouls.
