It’s an absolute shame the man has been let go. Things like this are what make race issues worse, not better. A small whiney group of babies looking to ruin a mans life after he apologized because they are always victims. A few things to note:
1. Dia Davidson, a black coworker who actually knows him came out and said he’s absolutely not a racist and misspoke.
2. Matt Jones who’s extremely left came out and said he knows the man personally and he’s not a racist and his apology should be more than enough
3. Ryan Lemond who’s married to a black woman and has black children came out and said the man is a good man and made a mistake and the apology should be enough.
4. Black friends, black coworkers, black golfing buddies, black comedians from the comedy club have come out in droves to defend his character
5.Thoudands of comments already made to Lex that viewers will now leave because of they didn’t support him
6. Multiple advertisers that have bailed because he was let go

So who wants him fired? Well one guy is the race baiting minister who wrote the letter to the editor as well as other members of the church that demand he be fired. This same exact group that last year came out on the news demanding the local community boycott Portofinos because the owner was a racist after a girl said she was told to leave and called the N word by the owner. The NAACP came, as well as black lives matter and many other people from the community and protested and blocked the parking lot to Portofinos and called for the restraunt to be shut down. It wasn’t until a week later when Portofinos released video footage of the girl not even eating in the restaurant but in the coat room stealing customers things. NOT ONE single protester, minister, leader of any of those groups made an apology for trying to ruin the mans name and livelihood when the truth came out. They just moved on to the next target. Thank God he had video footage.

As I said. These things hurt race relations. I feel bad for the people who experience REAL racism because many people don’t know to take them seriously because of these people looking for problems to be victims to.

Hasn't the man suffered enough?
I heard they have reached an agreement. Video of the negotiations.

I did bring Christianity and which things do I need to oppose that are beyond forgiveness?

I'm not going to get into a back-and-forth with you. My opinion is our country needs more forgiveness and allowing of second chances. I don't think that's a hot take but if you disagree, well, I forgive you.

I'm not sure if you understand what I meant by my comment of truly being a Christian and opposing certain things. There are many issues that in today's society that are against what the Bible teaches and I am not going to start naming things because I get on this board to read about UK sports and I don't wish to be banned. I'll try to dance around a subject and hope I don't get blocked, if you believe what the Bible says i.e. being a Christian, that is wrong and it's centered around types of marriage. While it is not my place to judge and/or hate that doesn't mean I should agree with it.

Yes, I whole-heartedly believe in second chances and we are always taught to forgive but if something is forgiven there are still those consequences. I hope I didn't really cloudy that reply.

Scripps and WLEX can kill themselves by diving into wood chipper and .smoke a turd while burning in Hell as they get anally raped by rabid wolverines. Dickless, spineless shitheads.

Boycott the **** out of those ********

I don't know why but I usually don't look at who is the author of a post until after reading it. However for some reason I looked at your "handle" first, then thought as I was reading it - now here's a guy whose "handle" doesn't fit. I found it incredibly funny for the irony :joy:

Not so much Mary Jo Perino. Said it was the right thing to do in firing him.
Only person that apologized to Portofinos was one the mother's of the girls.

I’m going to take issue with the crew that says, “well, they had to do something.” First, no they didn’t. Not every mistake calls for top down, corporate managed, code enforcement. If twenty years of service doesn’t allow an employer some breadth in assessing whether an act was intentional, a mistake or a momentary lapse of judgment then we are effectively becoming robots. Second, the crap about money. Do you really think I won’t eat at an advertisers restaurant over a mistake like this? Do you think there would be mass defections over a poorly thought out comment? By whom? For how long? Third, he apologized. He meant it by everyone’s estimation. You jokers that advocate and accept the public guillotine for stuff like this - mistakes, missteps, lapses- will reap the whirlwind.

*for the hyperignorant, the British monarchy has been referred to multiple times throughout history as apes. The first picture I could find is by William Hogarth in 1768 depicting George III as a monkey. It’s a Getty image so I cannot link it. But search and you will find it.

Here's the thing. In this day and age if you have a job that puts you in the public eye you are going to be held to a higher standard than the rest of us.

Is what he said the worst thing any of us have ever heard? No, but that's not the point, it's zero tolerance now when it comes to making racial remarks. He should have known this.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like he and Hayley were both kind of taken aback at the story as they were hearing and talking about it in real time. It was as if they had never heard about it at all until the very moment she read it off the page/prompter, so i can believe that it was just an off the cuff remark. A mistake, but a dumb one. What's done is done. Move on.

A bigger issue is the fact that new/media/Twitter accounts seem to feel the need to give light to all of these types of things. Not everyone who does something dumb needs a national audience. The guy from England tweeted something stupid, and he was fired for it. That could have been the end of it. It's not news, it's not even interesting entertainment. But yet, someone (probably some 26 year old 'producer') decided that the good people of Central Kentucky needed to hear about it, and here we are. It's the same as the blue-check Twitter users who retweet some idiot or fan just to show the world how dumb someone is.

That’s the problem. He didn’t. Someone who heard it perceived it as racist and took it out of context.

..and I hate true / systematic racism

and it doesn’t have to be a legit imitate grievance. Once they know all they have to do is claim their feelings were hurt to get people fired they will do it all the time. I don’t give 2 ***** about feelings and the fact we are legislating on that is insane . Take your hurt feelings and shove them up your asses. Systemic racism is bogus. There is only racism and it is used as a Trojan horse to illegitimately get what you want .

again, to anyone that thinks this is "no big issue".

Record yourself calling a black person a "monkey". Post on twitter and then leave a link below. I'll wait.
I don’t use Twitter or any social media. It’s just a damn word good grief. Getting into a tizzy because of it is so pathetic I just can’t fathom how little self control you must have , or what other self esteem issues you have. What ever the case people should be able to think and speak freely without being ostracized from society.

You’re not applying your argument to the right context.

If Lee had intentionally likened the baby to a primate based on the birth parents or intentionally supported a Dj for doing so..then yes. He should be fired. No question about it. Get rid of his ***.

...but this simply isn’t the case.

Be reasonable. Why would Cruse intentionally do that?
I am being reasonable. There's no way in any of these cases, not just Lee's, that you can actually know someone's intention. That leads to management and ownership types being put between a rock and a hard place. And when it comes down to it, it's business.

if you are racialized in your thoughts, you are more likely to automatically assume the intent was racist.

if not, you are more likely to presume it didn't involve race at all; lots of people hate the royals or make fun of ugly babies, the latter is way more acceptable in civilized society than the former.

that is why it's a non-issue until someone makes it one.

you inmates need to give back the keys.

No way? Courts do it all the time. It’s the difference between murder and manslaughter. Intent. Motive etc

I’d say Lee was a dumbass who meant to harpoon his own career if he did it intentionally.

Yeah go back and watch it....suspension ok, but firing is insane. And my wife is black and my daughter mixed. And Im in Lee's corner. He meant no ill will, just trying to be funny about the wrong subject.

whhhaaaaaaaattt... you mean a white guy can fall in love and marry a black woman, reproduce with her and not become a self hating white knight wanna be sjw cuck like some other drone flying, soccer/lbj fanboi on this board???

I'm not sure how ostracizing people who say racist things, or in Lee's case agree with someone who does something racist, is a bad thing. I think anyone who says or does stupid things should be ostracized, that's how they learn the things they are saying are not acceptable in a polite society.

I don't know about you, but I have no problem speaking freely without feeling the need to use racist comments.

Let’s not act like Lee made some unabashed racist comment. He didn’t, and you’re just flat lying if you say he did. He commented on a really stupid joke in a way that lent itself to an ugly interpretation. It was a bad mistake, but If you ostracize every single person who has ever flubbed up like that, you’re gonna alienate everyone - including yourself, even if you won’t admit it.

....because someone died. The only thing that happened here is that some people were offended by a stupid joke that went over wrong.
Smaller offense, smaller infraction. Could be the same type of thing for speeding on the highway or your kid cussing at the dinner table. The thing that was 'wrong' happened, and there's a consequence.

Having said that ...

Apparently there is some behind the scenes stuff about how it was handled. That's probably not fair to Lee. Also the idea that the entire WLEX team needs to go to racial sensitivity training, as was alluded to in news reports, is ludicrous.

Please reread what I said, I didn't say he made a racist comment. What he did was to see a classless and blatantly racist comment made by someone else and laughed and said that person was his new favorite DJ. You have to admit, that's not a good look.

I already said it was not a good look and he made a dumb mistake, but to act like what he did is worthy of ostracizing is just lunacy

No one has denied that there needed to be a consequence, at least not that I have seen. Additional trading and/or a suspension was an appropriate consequence. Firing him and smearing him as some racist bigot is not.

There’s a pretty big gap between ostracizing him from society and congratulating him. I think suspension and training were appropriate punishments. Firing him was overkill.

I disagree. In 2019 if you're in a job in the public eye you shouldn't need training to know that you can't agree with someone who compare a mixed race child with a monkey. I think most people in this thread know that's not acceptable behavior.

We are living in an age where blacks can say anything they want about each other , use the N word on a regular basis, buy a white man can say one word out of place and it is catastrophic.
