Looking At The UConn Game

This would be considered a "Big Opportunity" game for Seton Hall. Winning this one would be a Huge Resume Chip. Although SHU has done quite well against UConn the past few years, this one has a different feel. We certainly hope they will play a competitive game from the outset. I'm not sure The Hall can afford to get too far behind this time. Hopefully, this is not going to be the Reality Check beatdown by UConn.

Usually, when SHU gets ranked, they have struggled to some degree. The good news is the now #25 Hall only have one day to have that distraction. UConn is really good this season. They are not perfect but probably will compete for the National Title. UConn has a big edge in starting production. That may be the difference. Ball, Karaban, Reed, Mullins, and Demery Jr. are averaging a combined 64 PPG. That's a lot to overcome. On the other hand, UConn cannot match SHU's Bench production on most nights. I believe Sha's scheme will be to try shutting down one of the key UConn players and frustrate the others. Hopefully, they slow down Karaban and shut down Mullins who is becoming a big factor for them.

You would think Seton Hall's defense will show up, but what about the offense? Seton Hall can win this game if they score in the 70's. Sha really needs his starters to turn it around offensively when playing a Quality team at The Rock. The Villanova and Creighton games saw disappointing offensive outputs especially, in the first halves. So, it's time for Staton-McCray, Williams, Fisher, Payne and Clarke to come out with high intensity from the opening whistle. Embrace the Hall Crowd and stop playing so tight at home. The game is supposed to be the fun part.

If they lose, it’s because UConn is excellent and not because SHU is ranked. These guys have absolutely zero to do with what other teams did after being ranked.
I agree. No excuse in place. I do believe that in the past being ranked has caused distractions and possibly a loss of focus. Every team though is different. The gist of the comments are about the firepower of the UConn starting five and the SHU starters struggling to score at Prudential.

Hope you’re right this time . In the past 20 years or so getting ranked on Monday was followed by a head scratcher loss.

I think there is a little magic in the air when UConn comes to the Rock. I’ve seen 3 of the last 4, hoping to go home with a smile on my face tonight. There is no doubt UConn will be ready. We are definitely in Hurleys head when they come to our place to play. Hopefully they play a little tight, the noise, the pressure and then maybe some more noise and we get this done. 6th man has to play a part.

I’ll be shocked if we win this one. We’re facing a level of talent we haven’t come close to seeing yet this year. Couple that with our offense going backwards and our defense being spotty it could be a rough night.

That said maybe this is what we need to snap out of the mini funk. We will see

For me its about how SHU plays out of the gate tonight. The team has made just about every opponent uncomfortable except for Villanova. Hines was missing in that game we must remember, but Nova played free and easy. UConn have NBA level players in their starting lineup. The SHU defense looks to be the real deal. So what is this going to like whether UConn is ready or not? The Hall has not had a lot of time to prep for this game. Hopefully, the offense gets them to the second media timeout in a good place.

That has been true the last 4 times we played Uconn. 4 non tourney teams as huge underdog, 2 beating the eventual bc, one historically bad sh team beating a good uconn team. Who knows.

I would be very surprised if we won too. They’re so good. But that’s why they play the games!

Both teams played at Provy. We won by 5 and Uconn needed OT.
Only other common opponent is Marquette but Uconn got them at home and we won on the road there.
