I have to admit I’m a little surprised by your comments here .
Ah, maybe I'm not as unreasonable as some accuse. I have no problem offering a critique of Calipari when it seems warranted to me. If Calipari cared more about improving his relationship with fans, it would certainly make my life easier. It would also make his own life easier. 😀

Calipari isn't going on KSR because Matt Jones reported, or let info that was supposed to be kept under wraps, something he was told not to do. For the first few years Cal used KSR to get out stuff he couldn't actually say in public and MJ was benefitting from that. As several have said before, he's the one who "burned a bridge" by letting his ego of being so well connected get him in trouble. Cal hasn't forgotten it.

That's why our insiders will often say at this time I can't give specifics but will divulge at a later time. That's how you stay well connected. Again Matt's love of self caused the rift and he's got all kinds of sour grapes now.

Anyone saying they "can't watch the end of a big, tight game" because he gets so nervous is a f*&king troll (IMO). I know he has a show to do after the game but how many times have you seen him and Drew and Ryan at the venue doing the pre-game and post-game before ? I recall several times at the SEC Tourney in Nashville set up in the foyer as he was at the NCAA Tournament several times. He came upon the scene just as social media was beginning to boom and we were coming off a down couple years with Tubby and BCG. He has benefitted tremendously over the years but his political ideals and downright lying about his "sources" have cost him. As long as there are plenty of Chesters and Ryan Lemmonds out the who hang on his every word, he'll keep on keeping on. However many have grown tired of his crap. Ryan reminds me of this (he's Chester and Matt is Spike)

Does cal owe him an appearance? Cal doesn't need ksr to connect with fans. He has a massive social media following.

I know ksr is a popular venture but it's bizarrely entitled (even for Jones) to think cal must come on ksr on a regular basis.
Nah, I don't think it's about "owing" Matt Jones anything. And there are other ways for Cal to connect to fans. But I do think Jones has a corner on a segment of the fanbase that Cal would do well to reach out to. If he swallowed his pride and did an appearance, it could improve some of the attitude folks have developed. I think it would be a smart move on his part. Aside from this, as I said above, it just comes off as small and petty to me.

Now, Jones has his own issues with part of the fanbase, and that is beside the point, in my view. The fact is, Jones is one of the most listened to voices in the state in regard to UK basketball. He doesn't owe Jones but they could be a help to each other. Just my 2 cents.

I am not a big fan of Jones, I listen to him mainly during football season as he has decent access to football program. Cal certainly has the right to go on whatever show he wishes. With all that said if Cal doesn't want to be criticized he never should have come to coach at the University of Kentucky. Simplesolution to criticism at UK is win and win big, Cal hasn't done that in a while so until he starts doing it again he better get used to it.

Guy who raises $5 million for disaster relief, moves the annual scrimmage to where the fans are, signs the single most popular player in the history of the program, gives fans the new uniforms they were clamoring for, puts all kinds of entertaining content on social media, signs the #1 recruiting class in 2023…

Yeah this guy is really out of touch with fans because he won’t go waste his time on one *******’s dumb radio show.

Y’all are hilarious.

Matt said what any non-homer on here said. If he just got on his show every day, and acted like he worked for UK, nobody would listen.

You’d have to explain what you’re thinking my position is because I’m completely not understanding you. The laughing emoji and “whatever” comment totally threw me. What is it you think I’m saying?

No he doesn’t lol
Maybe you are missing my point.
I have no opinion on Matt Jones, so I have no hate for the guy. But UK was here long before Mr. Jones and will be long after Mr. Jones.
Without UK to talk about, Mr. Jones and KSR would fade away. Coach Cal leaves, UK will probably see a downward season but will be right back where it usually is.
Outside of KY, does anyone know Matt Jones?

Matt Jones is not a UK fan. He's a dookie. He's a tubby *** kisser. The only reason matt jones pretends to be about UK is to make money. Absolutely clueless about the game of basketball. He trashed Cal before Cal got here. He's never been a Cal guy so why should Cal give him the time of day?

Wow look, Matt Jones didn't get his way and is crying to the public so people will help wipe his tears.

He wants to be a professional, but cannot handle any adversity.

Wanted to be a politician, but play by his own made p rules, and Mitch slapped him around like a little boy and he cried about it.

Has made KSR hugely successful, but tried to make his own rules, now Cal is slapping him around too and here he is crying again.

He is being taught a lesson in both of these. If you want to run with the big boys, pull your big boy pants up. He has yet to show the ability to do so, instead he runs to his fanbase to have them pat his back and give him a participation trophy.

When the team your whole livelihood depends on tells you not to break a story yet and you do for whatever reason (ego, clicks, both) you suffer the consequences...

This has nothing to do with Cal wanting to avoid criticism. KSR showed Cal and his staff they couldn't be trusted and now they are paying the consequences.

Matt needs UK athletics, but he’ll be fine without Cal.

Ridiculous if you think he doesn’t care about the fans and the state. Do you truly believe he doesn’t?

I listen to KSR almost everyday but imo Matt and his crew crossed the line with Cal especially after he had already got rid of Justus and Barbee…. He had already hired Orlando, Chin and the traitor… Cal has made massive changes to the program in the past couple of years! 😳🤷‍♂️

Which better helps change people's attitude? Going on Jones show while remaining mediocre? Or just winning with the new found resurgence in recruiting?

Certainly it's the latter. An appearance on that show really is immaterial to anything he's trying to accomplish.

Excerpt one is immeadiate and shows openness and a change in of media direction . The latter is hopeful but unproven.

It seems to me as Calipari is trying to fix alot of these issues the fans had with him. It atleast looks as though he is certainly trying to.

There we a few from the end of the Justus era. Justus blabbed to everyone and would go back to them asking them not to run with it per Cal. KSR ignored it a few times.

This coincided with the awful year we had and the just criticism they gave Cal. But everyone gave him criticism then, yet they are the only ones he isn't talking to.

IMHO, he is just putting them in their place at the moment.

I don’t understand why you all think Cal is obligated to talk to someone he doesn’t like? What has MJ done for UK or how is he connected that would make it necessary for Cal to talk to him? MJ is a whiny little ❄️ and is always triggered by something.

Matt was so far up Cals *** for so long kind of shows you loyalty isn’t a 2 way street with cal. If I was MJ I’d not cut any breaks for cal from now on and I’d start by criticizing his coaching bc he apparently doesn’t coach offense. And I don’t even like MJ
Matt is for whatever gets the most listens and clicks. He is a Dukie...not a UK fan. When the fans start moaning about Calipari, Dukie Jones does too. When the fans are loving Calipari, Dukie Jones does too. The one constant with Dukie Jones is that he loves Blue Devils.

No, I don't think that. Clearly, he does care about the fans and the people of Kentucky. He has proven that again and again. I just think it could be a wise move to go on KSR. I'm supporting Calipari, by the way. When I say I think he should do this it's not because I'm being critical of him. I'm kinda coming at this from the angle of trying to help him improve his relationship with certain fans. Of course, as I read this thread, I realize how much a lightning rod Matt Jones is, too. So, I might be wrong. He might help his image with some and hurt it with others.

I don't personally have anything against Matt Jones. I disagree with his politics. I'm pretty sure I disagree with Calipari's politics, too, but I don't allow politics to color every opinion I have of people.

Most of these people want Cal to go on there want Jones to give him hell about the last two years. They can’t get b past it. We are a week from a new season and freakin Sharpe still dominates their mind. If he went on Jones would get 3-4 questions in and Cal would say what he wants to say. Then they would bash Jones for being too weak or not asking hard questions. They want Cal to apologize and beg fir forgiveness. Well screw that. Not going to happen. 95% of the posters here claim to never listen to KSr. They wouldn’t even hear an interview if it happened.

It’s a non issue for me but . When you say “last two years” I believe you are overlooking the fact that we have a losing record against ranked teams since 2015 It’s more than 2 years . Now Cal has made staff changes and we are once again getting the best of the best recruits so hopefully things are trending upward. We will see.

Cal needs to get real! He had the worst season in UK history followed by the worst loss. He’s going to get criticized!

I also wonder if this is why they’re reluctant to criticize Stoops too much.

Matt Jones doesn't know enough about basketball to criticize anybody. All he does is parrot what he's heard from other radio people. Does it in football too. Constantly repeats whatever Freddie Maggard or Nic Roush says and passes it off as an original thought.
