hard to figure out why the mets let him and diaz go tho i assume the Dodgers had a lot to do with diaz' decision. neither contracts were are big as i expected (neither was schwarbers). 5 yrs not optimum for pete but no doubt many would make that offer. hard to think this is how pete dreamed it would go.

oh no, the orioles broke baseball lol

From afar I believe this might further inflate the Bellinger contract as now the Mets with more money to spend will go after him hard.

Going back to Tommy Pham's comments there have] been too many smoke signals about the Mets locker room. I think there is a definite shift away from this core and team leadership. They are building the roster around Soto and his personality.

I think they are also trying to get rid of, or limit, the bad contracts that would result in aging players being paid a ton of money.

Lindor always has impressed me as a real good guy. Is he considered part of the problem?

I don’t think he’s a bad guy, but the dynamic of the team has been off. I think he’s positioned to be more of a leader on the outside than he is in the locker room. You have Phams comments about it being the least hard working team he’d ever been on. Sotos comments about Marte being the real captain. The fact that JD Martinez was the player that rallied them last year. And the Mets reluctance to name him the actual captain.

Looks like they are trying to change the dynamic by getting rid of the core and bringing in players with a different leadership skill set.

I am very interested to see what Stearns does with Cohen’s enormous resources and the immense budding talent below.

They added Soto but missed the playoffs with that aging group. Clearly Stearns and Cohen think it’s time for a change.

They really didn’t try to retain either Pete or Edwin and traded Nimmo.

Getting Devin Williams the day before Diaz walked is telling.

As for Pete going to Baltimore, I recall the line Jay Leno delivered about Robbie Cano going to the Seattle Mariners of about 12 years past.

Like Pete to the Orioles, Leno said there was an extra in Cano's contract. He would get a month off each year------ October!

I think that’s exactly right. Orioles had to overpay to get Alonso. I have no issue with that on either side.

Letting Alonso go and trading Nimmo is all good with me. Especially because Alonso would never get that deal in Queens (and probably not from any other of the 28 teams besides Baltimore)

Losing Diaz is the one painful one. But I think wanted to go to LA all things being equal. Dodgers roster just too loaded.
