Pat McAfee and his crew, including AQ Shipley, are promoting Brian Daboll as the next PSU coach.
Good god!Pat McAfee and his crew, including AQ Shipley, are promoting Brian Daboll as the next PSU coach
Also Brohm and Lousyville talking extension. Doubt they can pay what we can but will have to see how this plays out now. Thanks for that info. Definitely reason for dropping off the list.
No thanks. Those two have to be meshuggeneh with that suggestion.Pat McAfee and his crew, including AQ Shipley, are promoting Brian Daboll as the next PSU coach.
OK, wait til after holidays. Also Brohm and Lousyville talking extension. Doubt they can pay what we can but will have to see how this plays out now.
No doubt lots of extension talks going on at Louisville, GT, USF, Vandy, and probably A&M.Also Brohm and Lousyville talking extension. Doubt they can pay what we can but will have to see how this plays out now.
AgreeGet Chesney and be done with it. 3 reasons:
1) He’s young and aggressive.
2) He’s WON everywhere he was at.
3) And most importantly, he’s from Mount Carmel/ Shamokin (the Coal Region for you common folk). These people tend to be tough as nails. The “let’s hug it out” stuff would become extinct. We would see hard nose football instead of gloried flag football.
He would be a great fit.
Yes, I suspect any agent worth his salt for any coach will be working both ends against the middle. No doubt lots of extension talks going on at Louisville, GT, USF, Vandy, and probably A&M.
That’s a big box not to have checked when you are going against the heavyweights in our conference.Chesney checks a lot of boxes for me, save P4 experience.
It would be a bit of a gamble with Chesney but it is beginning to look like the other candidates are negotiating extensions. That’s a big box not to have checked when you are going against the heavyweights in our conference.

I don’t disagree with Chesney necessarily because I don’t really know much about him other than what I read from you guys here. However, you can be tough as nails and still be in way over your head. Being tough does not equal getting PSU over the hump that Franklin couldn’t.Get Chesney and be done with it. 3 reasons:

You never really know till you put the man in the driver seat. You can get a seasoned accomplished veteran and still not succeed.I’m sure Ferrari is less than thrilled that Hamilton can’t perform Charles Leclerc.I don’t disagree with Chesney necessarily because I don’t really know much about him other than what I read from you guys here. Daniel jones has come back to earth last few weeks. Also Jackson dart looks like a stud. The same football coach that botched Daniel Jones development? He leaves the Giants and looks like Josh Allen in Indianapolis. In fact, there are several players that left the Giants to go onto much better success elsewhere.
I get it. But just saying the guy is tough as nails, doesn’t make him a good coach. There’s no correlation whatsoever. I think some of our fanbase mistakenly seem to think the coach can mentally will his way to a win. As for the F1 reference, you lost me. It might as well be a soccer reference to me.You never really know till you put the man in the driver seat. You can get a seasoned accomplished veteran and still not succeed.I’m sure Ferrari is less than thrilled that Hamilton can’t perform Charles Leclerc.
Same here, and I can see how it would be very tempting to hire him. But the reality is that there are very few examples of coaches like him without the power conference experience at the coordinator or assistant levels actually succeeding. I’m not sure that we’re in the position to roll the dice with a $700 million stadium renovation that needs to be paid for with additional revenue.Chesney checks a lot of boxes for me, save P4 experience.

They are 6-3, Brady isn't getting fired. LOL.Joe Brady may get fired up in Buffalo. Offense is broken up there.
Hell no. Has a horrible track record on the defensive side. And he can't cook a brisket to save his life.I see the rumors are flying about Lincoln Riley leaving USC. This guy wins and produces some well coached talent.
What do you guys think about him? We would have load up an armored car and dump a ton of cash at his feet.
Smith allowed the same personnel and lack of downfield passing mistakes that Franklin had to continue for 3 games. His time management against IU was awful, we wasted 2 crucial timeouts, one on defense substitutions and one on offense when the clock was already stopped for a first down. The clock management cost us a huge opportunity on the last possession. I like Smith and hope he sticks around, but he's not ready for the head job.If he beat Indiana, I would vote for Smith. There is no doubt that he has rallied the troops and has extracted more out of these guys than Franklin did. His mistake is that he did not force AK to throw the ball in the first half of that Indy game.
Hard pass. Not sure what he brings versus Franklin. He has not succeeded with the resources at USC.
Lowering expectations .
Agree. I think a lot of posters that disliked Franklin's style are overcorrecting with their desire to get a "tough guy" coach. In the open portal era being too much of a hard *** isn't going to work either. It's a fine line that coaches have to manage, keeping players happy enough to stick around while also not being afraid to bench them for poor performance.I don’t disagree with Chesney necessarily because I don’t really know much about him other than what I read from you guys here. However, you can be tough as nails and still be in way over your head. Being tough does not equal getting PSU over the hump that Franklin couldn’t.
He hasn't been a college coach for very long over the last 20 years. He will get an NFL job and likely has no desire to coach college ball. And his NFL coaching record despite those stats, isn't all rainbows and unicorns. He got all of those championship on the Pats staff as a position coach thanks to Belichick and Brady.5x super bowl champion

Alabama OC 2017He hasn't been a college coach in 20 years and even then his only college experience is as a GA... no meaningful college experience and he'd be expected to recruit, manage NIL and the portal. He will get an NFL job and likely has no desire to coach college ball.
That description was 3rd on the list posted, so that wasn't what the new guy was "just saying".I get it. But just saying the guy is tough as nails, doesn’t make him a good coach. There’s no correlation whatsoever...
Just edited my post after seeing that, thanks.Alabama OC 2017
While I’d be happy with Chesney, this is one reason I prefer Golesh to him. He’s been in major conference settings as an assistant for a decade before becoming HC.I don’t disagree with Chesney necessarily because I don’t really know much about him other than what I read from you guys here. However, you can be tough as nails and still be in way over your head. Being tough does not equal getting PSU over the hump that Franklin couldn’t.
I looked at Golesh's record and it's very mediocre despite playing in a conference in which he should have the talent advantage against most of the other teams. While I’d be happy with Chesney, this is one reason I prefer Golesh to him. Shhhhh…… don’t tell McAfee, he’s on a roll!Daboll's kids went to PSU, his son was an equipment manager for the football team. He probably has a closet full of PSU gear. There's nothing to this at all.
I hear you but let’s look at what it was before him:I looked at Golesh's record and it's very mediocre despite playing in a conference in which he should have the talent advantage against most of the other teams.

Michigan did not throw a pass in the second half of that game because they couldn’t stop the PSU pass rush in the first half. Saying Penn State posed no threat is absurd. What changes by acknowledging it?
Penn State even got to play them minus Harbaugh in 2023 and at home. I don’t assume they were creating that game anymore. Penn State presented such little threat that I don’t believe Michigan threw a pass in the second half.
