So Sexton and/or his agency would decline a massive pay raise for his client (OC to HC $$) simply because he has a huge grudge against our AD? Is that really the prevailing wisdom here? As if Kraft is the first AD to fire one of his guys. I suspect he didn’t climb to the top of the mountain by allowing petty disputes get in the way of huge paydays.Nope. Ever since Saban shilled for Franklin in that interview on game day after Franklin was fired means Saban is shiite now. Saban has same agent as Franklin, Sexton, and of course he was going to bash PSU. We are not getting Hartline either because Hartline's agent works for Sexton's agency. PSU is screwed and Kraft's days are most likely numbered. However, Franklin needed to go because he gave up on the team which is pretty obvious if you think about it.
Better tell that to Tengwell, because that is where I got it.That would be a cool "Fun Fact".... if it were anything close to being a fact - instead on abject nonsense.
I could probably list a half-dozen recent such cases..... JUST with Jimmy Sexton clients, and JUST in the SEC alone.
Where do people come up with this nonsense?
Butch Jones to Jeremy Pruitt
Jimbo Fisher to Willie Taggart (FSU, not SEC)
Jim McElwain to Dan Mullen
Hugh Freeze to Matt Luke
Took about 3 minutes to locate 4 - without really trying.
Exactly... if my agent is turning down that large pay increase or coaching at a major college program out of spite, my agent is getting canned and he will also be losing a lot of clients due to his stupidity of turning down massive pay increases and promotions.Agree about Saban
but to think Sexton would tell Hartline he can’t take a job that’s going to give him a $6-7 million dollar a year raise is ridiculous
people need to stop with this notion that Sexton is out to screw Penn state and / or Kraft.
It does not. I think this conspiracy theory stems from fans' disbelief that the value of the Penn State job is not what they believe it to me and that other nefarious forces are at work.I don’t quite get the interference from Sexton claims. Several coaches were fired but only Penn State gets Sexton’s wrath, all over Franklin? How does this make any sense?
When it is abjectly and provably untrue, does it matter where you "get it"? (Where is The Rick when you need him?Better tell that to Tengwell, because that is where I got it.
follow Howie Roseman, draft the top schools players. i.e. get their coaches to PSU and sit back and enjoy! Why do you rob banks? THAT IS WERE THE MONEY IS KEPT!!!!!!I don't get this at all. He's one of the best up and coming coordinators in college football. At one point, Dan Lanning, Kirby Smart, Lane Kiffin, Ryan Day, Kalen DeBoer, etc. were all up and coming coordinators. I get Kentucky football may not be Penn State, but the landscape is changing. Oh - and last time we played them they beat us.
Blame the AD.Has any college football program in history had such a rapid decline in less than one season? We have gone from 1 play fron the NC game to 6-6, zero 2026 LOI recruits with no head coach.
Agree, he should have grabbed Chesney. Wait and see who he gets.
YepExactly... is my agent is turning down that large pay increase or coaching at a major college program out of spite, my agent is getting canned and he will also be losing a lot of clients due to his stupidity of turning down massive pay increases and promotions.
Its frankly nonsense. Just imagine a world where programs capitulate to agents on whether to keep or fire coaches, give them raises or extensions and so on. People are ascribing motives to Sexton that are simply unreasonable. What he wants is to get the biggest payday for his client so that he can cut himself a bigger commission check. Full stop. Only time his personal animus, if true, would factor in is if the money is the same and he is asked to weigh in. Surely this never happens: "Bob, I know PSU is offering 3m more per year to coach there, but I don't want you to take the job because they were mean to James." Lets get a gripIf PSU wanted Chesney and outbid UCLA, and Chesney wanted to be at PSU, Sexton can’t stop it. I think much of this talk of Sexton’s grudge and power to screw PSU is mostly talk. What we saw is exactly what Franklin did…use a job offer to get a raise from the school you want to stay at. It’s not the curse of Sexton.
Kraft’s ego won’t let him hire Smith. He is not going to be bullied by alumni, current players and lettermen. It just might be another assistant from the current staff.Well, maybe-
I have no problem with Terry Smith being named HC and being given a very intermediate contract with a light buyout (UCLA reportedly only gave Chesney a 5 year contract @$6mm per year), but this should have been done weeks ago to give Terry a chance to keep as much of the roster and recruiting class as possible..... Kraft should be fired if the job is now given to Terry at this late date - he has made it about as difficult to succeed as an AD possibly could. Look at what 'Ole Miss did in an attempt to stabilize their roster. Just utterly ridiculous how Kraft has handled this.
They're terrible options if you're being paid $2.2m+ to do your job and locked in thru 2032.It seems like Kraft is in panic ego mode to me. He will likely try a few things: swing and maybe land or miss again on a decently big name, or have to do one of the following:
1. Hire Terry Smith to a short term deal while continuing to look at a long term answer over the next 24 months
2. Hire Manny Diaz away from Duke (he knows the recruiting area and the program)
3. Hire Al Golden (he has been a HC and beat PSU head to head last year, and knows the recruiting territory)
Those are the options, unless he can grab a Matt Campbell, Jeff Brohm, or someone of that ilk.
None of those are terrible options if I'm honest. Maybe Al Golden wouldn't be great, but at this point i'd probably take that over Daboll or some unproven guy.
he actually gave props to his producer for finding that. When it is abjectly and provably untrue, does it matter where you "get it"? (Where is The Rick when you need him?)
(If he indeed even said that - which I kind of doubt. He doesn't have a history or habit of making statements "of fact" that are so clearly untrue.)
IF what you claim is true, and the client's extension and salary were indeed less than what PSU offered (and I have no knowledge of this), do you really believe Sexton would take less money in commission just to punish Kraft. That makes zero sense. This begs the question then why did Sexton's coaches all settle for less money with their extensions over what Kraft was or would have offered. I'm not saying you are incorrect but to me those seem to be unbelievable coincidences. Doubt Sexton is the complete Devil he's made out to be but he was a constant influence in most of Kraft's attempted hires, negative or positive I don't know.

I could not agree more. Anyone from the outside could quantify all the reasons why going after the likes of Elko, Deboer, Meyer, Saban and so on were unrealistic options if not a waste of time. Kraft grossly miscalculated and from all accounts the program will be the worse for it. If he does not pull a rabbit out of a hat he will likely lose his job for this fiasco.
With no incoming class, near two dozen seniors leaving and the inevitable portal defections I am interested to see what kind of team takes the field next fall.
I hope he manages to right the ship, but at the moment it looks like it’s taking more and
Can’t believe I’m saying this but he’s worse than Sandy! Not even being able to get Brohm, Campbell or anyone of that ilk is what's pitiful. Coaches would rather stay at places where there is no way of ever doing what could be done at Penn State. Louisville and Iowa State, even BYU is not going to probably even be what Indiana is this year since they're not even in a real conference, yet Penn State can't even get the coaches to come here?
What do they do, get in the interviews and warn them not to take the job? I've interviewed for things like that, where they say "this job will certainly be too hard, this is an awful place, are you sure you want to do this, etc.?" By the time it's over, yeah I'm almost glad to get that rejection or ghosting.

People forget in the Mormon faith is if the church calls you to an opening you are basically obligated to take it. Eagles had a real concern Andy Reid was going to leave them for BYU if the church called him. Back when BYU was in the cellar. People forget that part of the equation which is a very large one for those in the Mormon faith. From the 'YEAH RIGHT WHAT A CROCK OF SH*T' Department:
Segment on ESPN's 'Get Up' just had Greeny, Finebaum, and a third talking head discussing PSU. The third talking head (don't know her name) said Sitake was 'one of two' PSU was targeting and that there is still great confidence that PSU will land the right coach. They mentioned the recruiting class and how much money PSU has to spend and then Finebaum shat all over it by saying PSU is a shell of it's former self and embarrassing. Welp.
So? Isn’t that part of his job?Keep in mind that it was Sexton who approached Kraft and the board for a JF contract extension

Agree totally. You don't put all your eggs in one basket with that hanging over you. If true I am glad Kraft at least kicked the tires.Agree, but makes sense then that you don't pin the hopes and dreams and future of your billion dollar baby on a coach who could potentially have a biblical calling.
EXCUSE me. Speaking of entitled Kraft issued a press release which said Franklin was fired for not meeting Penn State’s “standard” of winning Big and National Championships and then held a press conference the next day and said the fans “deserve” a National Championship. Kraft is the one who created those expectations by opening his big mouth and since he’s had more than 7 weeks to find a replacement it’s time to back up that talk.Man Kraft has been too quiet we need something leaked
First day something gets leaked everybody wants him signed within 2 hours or Kraft is a failureholy **** you people are nuts and some of you are so entitled you think Penn State deserves Kirby Smart or you’re not satisfied. There were no home run hires this cycle besides maybe Kiffin who has never won anything significant.
Some of these people that thought Franklin was greatyeah that’s why LSU, Auburn, and Florida wanted nothing to do with him and he had to settle for Virginia Tech. Also not worried about Penn State losing these kids this was shaping up to be one of the worst classes in awhile for us. It was probably going to finish in between 20-25th ranked wise
I think it was time to cut bait with Franklin.
