Permission to fire Kraft? LolAnd the speculation is.....?
Can't imagine they are going to eat that whole contract for Kraft. Yeesh that is a lot of money. Hopeful it's for approving a new HC.The board meeting has been called, the question is whether it is to approve a the contract for HMC OR to fire Kraft.
Jay and Lubrano voted against any number of expenditures for the football program. Which ones were ultimately rejected? All were approved.“What coach would want to walk into a situation where you know the undermining of whats taking place is from one of the most powerful names of the school”. Lavar said.
Meaning unless the coach is someone who will work to clear Joes name, there are forces that will work against you and make it difficult to succeed.
No idea. Did we get BOT approval to fire Franklin? Maybe we don't?Do you need approval from the BOT to fire an AD. Not my area of expertise.
Ill shoot for both. Hopefully.Lol this is INSANE.
BOT meeting called for tomorrow but it's either because we got our guy or we're firing the AD. And it could be 50/50. Wow.
I agree with all of this, and I think a whole lot of Penn Staters agree with this. But then I listen to Pat Kraft, and I think his vision is 180 degrees opposed to this.I’ve been reading this thread since it was first posted. I am a proud Penn Stater. I got to witness the 86 team and I loved Lady Lion Basketball too. I’m done with all this fighting between eras. And it is fighting…it’s not banter or debates. I truly believe JoePa would want to be remembered by the legacy he left with football and in his academic gifts to the University. Statues, plaques they break and fade…but the legacy of a strong academic institution with a great sports program THESE were JoePa’s goals. AND, we need to let whoever comes in here carry that on… a winner who loves the team and the university. I don’t mean to sound too Jerry Maguireish…but that’s just my 2 cents.
I graduated in December 2011. I don’t have to imagine. I lived it “Dottie”.Could you imagine if you were a potential coach and being asked about Joe and Jerry in the interview? I would immediately end the interview.
Wow , funny to remember. I interviewed for a senior position, 26 years out of college in December 2011, and was asked about it when they saw I went to PSU.I graduated in December 2011. I don’t have to imagine. I lived it “Dottie”.
Oh great. That means we are doomed. From Football Scoop:
Friday morning update> Sources tell FootballScoop Penn State officials believe their discussions with Matt Campbell have been well received, "Good chance we have our man today".

LFG boys!
But the amount of onion dip on the floor would have been unbearable!Sandy would have sewn this up weeks ago. Then we would have had a top-five recruiting class locked up.

The only reason people still make Joe an issue is because of the University's refusal to acknowledge him. If the scandal never happened, that refusal never happens. The university effed up (yet again) by their handling of Joe's "legacy". Making his name effectively a cuss word is what has caused many of these problems. They don't have to worship at the altar of Joe. Just don't erase the guy from history.Fair enough, but even if the scandal never happened and Joe’s tenure was seen by all in the glowing light it deserves, we still do ourselves no good more than a decade later living in the past.
Good grief.Campbell would be one of the worst possible selections for sure. We will be the doormat of the B10 for sure. He would be out recruited in Pa. Ohio, DMV and on and on. 72-55 as a record in the weak Big 12 is all you need to know.
That's true. Franklin would have had another extension.Sandy would have sewn this up weeks ago. Then we would have had a top-five recruiting class locked up.

Dude has zero money at a perennial loser, in a state with historically minimal high school talent. Lighten up Francis.Campbell would be one of the worst possible selections for sure. We will be the doormat of the B10 for sure. He would be out recruited in Pa. Ohio, DMV and on and on. 72-55 as a record in the weak Big 12 is all you need to know.
Again, fair points and I don’t dispute them. I, too, wish the community was more fair to his legacy. But how is that line of thinking helping us now?The only reason people still make Joe an issue is because of the University's refusal to acknowledge him. Being self aware that if you F it up, then you wont have a job isn't exactly Nostradamus level stuff. It also still doesn't mean you have the chops to get it done correctly anyway.Likely because the structure in place delineates realms of authority that limits interference. If there were multiple persons involved in the decision who do you hold accountable? As Kraft himself said in the leaked players meeting, he is hiring for his job. If he "f**cks" up the hire his career as an AD is over because every subsequent interview will include "how the f=ck did you f*ck up the Penn State job?" If you heard him speak at this meeting his use of expletives was truly cringe-worthy. In any event, his point was very clear. Its his decision and if he blunders it he will be out of a job and his career is over. But if the President or BOT limit his authority he has a way out. If I were the President or the BOT I am letting him set himself on fire at this point and when its over restructure the realms of authority to prevent one person from making this decision in isolation. Hell, when we were looking to hire new faculty in years past you had a search committee, then a short list,, then interviews, then a vote on who to offer. In any case. this is like beating a dead horse. Hope he gets Campbell.
If you told me we were getting Matt Campbell the day after Franklin got canned, I'd be ecstatic. We have the resources, we need a good football coach.Campbell would be one of the worst possible selections for sure. We will be the doormat of the B10 for sure. He would be out recruited in Pa. Ohio, DMV and on and on. 72-55 as a record in the weak Big 12 is all you need to know.
He could be fired for cause. Can't imagine they are going to eat that whole contract for Kraft. Yeesh that is a lot of money. Hopeful it's for approving a new HC.

He is the only coach that had a winning record at Iowa State since Earle Bruce left in 1978. Do you realize how hard it is to win there? They went 37 years without a winning coach til he got there in 2015. Are you kidding me?Campbell would be one of the worst possible selections for sure. We will be the doormat of the B10 for sure. I wanted to isolate this statement so it doesn't get lost. This is beyond effed.I for one would rather the university formally honor Joe and name the field after him than the team win the national championship next year.
