I know the Siena game wasnt on. And i assume we ceded the right to broadcast the games on student radio with the BE ESPN+ deal. For whatever the reason, it sucks.

I don’t think WSOU has carried anything beyond basketball in years..
really. A fave sou memory. a few years ago, baseball team either in ncaa or big BET game. i walk out of the room. i hear the sou announcer raise his voice in exvirement. i rush into the room to see what we did. find the other team made a big play. and that is when i learned john fanta's name.

Fanta graduated in 2017, so that memory is probably about 10+ years old. My how time flies.

I doubt the BE ESPN deal has anything to do with this. The NCAA has a blanket rights deal with ESPN for all of their post-season tournaments other than Men's and Women's Basketball. That would prevent Pirates Sports Network, from showing the games but probably not WSOU.

I don't know if the NCAA has a radio rights arrangement but if they do that would supersede WSOU's ability to air the games. It doesn't look as if they were airing games during the regular season but I don't know that for sure.

As Anthony said, we don't b'cast soccer all season, so then it probably wouldn't be wise to jump into it out of nowhere for these kids. Especially to b'cast such a high stakes games out of nowhere & potentially sound unfamiliar/unprofessional. That IS a shame, b/c we didn't have an easy, universal way to watch the game, but we also cannot start covering the entire soccer season on 89.5FM. I would say keep our music format on FM, and have the kids call the men's soccer games on the stream, part. if coach stays & we continue to field solid teams most years. That's obviously really tough to gauge though.

WSOU was broadcasting the one game I was at this year. I don't imagine it was a one off, and they have a history of broadcasting all men's and women's home games so not sure where your comment comes from. They've done select road games too (Rutgers, UPenn).
