St. John's is coming in red hot, playing great. Seton Hall is coming in ice cold, in a terrible shooting slump.

So in true college basketball fashion, watch it be a tight game. 😭😭😭

We are just not scoring to break runs..a killer.
Shooting slumps are a lot like batting slumps. Gets mental. We are fumbling the basketball, are rushing layups, now missing FT's. We're now also well passed a regression to the mean after the hot start shooting and it's definitely a slump. IDK how you break it, that's what Sha gets around $3M to resolve.

I would start by doing two things:

1. Stop milking the SC to start possessions. Let them move. With that comes just 3-4 plays you can install based on movement and do that constantly to switch it up. We have gotten WAY stagnant. Defenses zone us or sag on us knowing we won't take or make 3's. And stop letting them get into position so easily.

2. Feed Hines and Fisher in the post. Run some back-to-basket stuff. Some pin downs, traditional entry passes. Let him pass out or go up. And yes, Hines starts. Everyone else can remain the same but I doubt Sha will do this. Then just pull Payne quickly if he looks slow or an offensively liability again.

When is the last time we had an alley oop pass and dunk?
I hope we get back to this. Remember earlier in the season we were doing things like that? Backdoor cuts, rotations that opened a guy under the rim for a layup, etc.

We got schemed well by teams familiar with our style of play. It's not a coincidence this occurred in BE play. I also think guys are in their own heads bc of it and you can get into a rut unless you're woken up... Maybe the comebacks did some of that too. Almost like, "Yeah, but we always come back and win."

The amount of missed shots is insane recently. And it's occurring on the blocks and at the FT line, forget the 3PT shooting which they give us. It happens. Hope it changes or we're toast.

We haven't played any teams for a second time yet, that will be a good barometer on whether the press can be figured out. I don't think we're there yet. It's one thing to scout it, it's another to play against it with the way SHU plays it. This is one area that bodes well for us if we make the NCAA Tournament too against teams who are unfamiliar.

The defense is good. It fueled the comeback again yesterday once we got down 17 at 16 mins to play. We outscored them by 11 and held them to 16 points over 12 minutes to cut the game to 6 and had a chance to make it down to 4 and momentum with 4 mins to play but we missed two freaking foul shots. SMH. The defense can keep us in striking distance and against bad teams or those who can't handle the pressure it'll create offense.

But it doesn't even matter because you cannot get to where you want to be with this shooting. We are shooting .436 from 2PT range and .245 from 3PT range in BE games, both the worst in the conference BY FAR. We're also just 9th in FT shooting at .701 and many guys who were shooting that well have fallen off. Something is up. Either we need to run better plays or guys need to get their heads right.
Or maybe when it all shakes out on avg thats who we are.
