Rangers just can’t find the back of the net. Hopefully they breakout soon. I did like the shakeup of the lines yesterday

I hear ya but at the same time they had a 3-1 lead going into the 3rd. That should be enough.

I believe when this season thread was created the Isles were not even included in the title. My understanding is their fan base showed up pretty strongly at the Garden last night. I don't think I would be going out on a limb to suggest their base is stronger than the Devils. Oh and terrific win last night. I will admit a couple weeks ago, I was thinking it was tear down time on Long Island. Maybe not yet. I do think the Rangers and Devils are in better shape roster wise than the Isles.

You're not alone. The Isles have coughed up a bunch of higher draft picks for playoff rentals that have turned into roster squatters. They need these graybeards on the roster because the draft picks they do keep don't develop into reliable everyday players. The roster & payroll will be a horror show in a few years.

They have a coach whose reaction to falling behind by a goal with 5 minutes left in the game is to put the Goodrow -Carpenter-Blais line on the ice for almost a minute, and not play Kakko in the last couple of minutes even though his puck possession skills are exactly what you need when you are trying create scoring chances on the crowded 6v5 ice after you pull the goalie.

It’s early, but the NHL is the league where it is easier to hold on to a position in the standings because of the “loser point”.

If the Devils can keep up this good play for the first 1/3-1/2 of the year, it will be hard to not make the playoffs.
Devils were, I think, 9-3 to start the year that Taylor Hall MVP year, and then just only managed to squeeze into the playoffs, and lost first round. However, that year as I recall they were not generating many shots even during that 9-3 stretch. maybe this year they have more staying power.

I wonder if Lou even thinks about developing a franchise for the long haul anymore given his own age versus just trying to make one more run every year. They seem to be so cap constrained and have handed out contracts that require attaching additional assets to move. We will see if the young defenseman from Montreal proves worthy of the most recent 1st rounder traded. I didn't think this team could win playing any other style than what Trotz had them doing but they all seem to be embracing the change to Lambert. It's early so I guess best to just let this play out for awhile.

Don't pinch me in case I'm dreaming. The NJD play down to Ottawa and still get the overtime victory.

Let's party like it is early 2011!!!

watched the Devils W online

Dominated the first two, let down in the 3rd, crazy exciting OT.

Another goalie injury is concerning

So, at this point Filip Chytil can be considered “developed” and after last year’s strong playoff performance is leading the Rangers in even strength goals per 60 this year.

in a 2-1 Rangers loss, not only did Gallant give Chytil the LEAST amount of even strength TOI of the Rangers’ top 9, Goodrow got 1:30 more ice time than him and Goodrow was the extra forward he put out after pulling the goalie.

Gallant ices 1st line Vesey, 2nd line Goodrow and Hayek over Jones. Somebody call a cab for him.

Great defense for the last 4 minutes of 6 on 5. Marty St. Louis pulled the goalie.

Devils blocked lots of shots with their bodies.

Dudes looked tired at the end.

Marino has completely stabilized the D corps and allowed Severson to play his way down to a bottom 6 pairing and eventual trade. That has been a huge upgrade along with Vanecek playing so well. The offense has been there the past couple of years.
