It was match play between Rahm and Homa. Another great tournament. Rahm’s putt on 14 (?) put it away.

LOL

You gotta work on your trolling game.
He's trolling but the tour does have a problem when the coverage was all Tiger Thursday & most of the weekend. I wanted to see all the players, not just a select group. They try to hard sell you on guys like Homa, but I could care less about his social media presence. He's got a great game. That is all I care about.

Listen to Tiger's press conference after. He is done as a regular player. It's not age but a bad back and the car wreck. Can't find the video but the requirements between rounds sounds awful. It will be the Majors and a random tournament going forward for the rest of his career. He admits that it will not get much better.

No body goes there anymore because it’s too crowded 😀. The reason they show Tiger is because people want to see Tiger. He was also paired with JT and Rory. But the weekend coverage was focused on the competition. You and @RUScrew85 are the minority here.

Agree. It’s a personal victory for Tiger to make the 36 hole cut at this point. He is plenty long off the tee but the rest of his game cannot compete at the tour level.

People still want to see him, so he is good for business. But he finished 16 strokes behind the winner and is unlikely to be a competitive player in the future. It’s like watching Arnie or Tom Watson late in their careers.

It’s golf. Did you see the list of people that didn’t make the cut? Doesn’t mean Tiger is better than them either. His problem is going to like all sr players. They all fade on sat & sun.

And that's OK. We all get old.

Gotta see him regain his elite form after those injuries. He doesn't have the yips like Speith or choke like Rory, so perhaps major #5 is coming soon.
I’d love nothing more than to see Brooks get #5. However all the injuries have killed his game. Hopefully he’s in good shape this year.

Not a fan. Still remember he was trying to psych out DJ at the 2020 PGA. Happy to see him lay an egg that day and Morikawa beat him by 10 strokes on the final round.

John Rahm looks like the best player in the world from what I can see. If he plays well then he wins consistently.

He is the chalk pick in every tourney he plays in imo.

He did just lost to the new #1 player before this one. A lot of good players at the top. Should be fun season.

The teams are all set!

Interested to see James Piot play this year. He won the 2021 US Amateur, finished college, and went right to LIV. It's great to have big names on tour, but getting the next crop of future stars is key to long-term success.

Piot played for Michigan State. He was very good but future star?

You're trying way too hard.

He's a highly thought of "young" guy for sure. But he's also not one of these late teens, 20-21 year old guy either. He's 24. He's older than Sunjae Im and Tom Kim, both PGA Tour winners. He's also only 2 years younger than Morikowa, Hovland, Scheffler. So while landing Piot was kind of a coup for LIV, the PGA still has the majority of the young guns, for now.

Like I said he's very good. As you know being a US Am Champ gets you invites to the US OPEN and Masters. He missed the cut in both which were the only two majors he's played in. He started playing for LIV last year after MSU's season ended. We may never know how he could have competed on a real tour.

Heck, Chris Gotterup had a better college career. He was college golfer of the year in '22, made two all-america teams (1st team (OU) and HM (RU) and B1G Golfer of the year in '19 or '20 yet he's struggling to stay on the Korn Ferry Tour. Piot made HM once in his career at MSU.

There's a world of difference between being and Am and being a member of a tour.

You are correct. I forgot to include Scottie Scheffler as a top player in the world.

Id put Rahm and Scheffler up against anyone in LIV at this point.

I didn't like that either but I don't really know what happened between DJ and Brooks. Technically Brooks was right about DJ coming up small in the past but you don't say it. I give Brooks a pass since he has played most of his career (even back to the juniors and college) never being the one talked about. Hell even Fox didn't include him in their promo for the US Open when he was the defending champ.

I love this stretch coming up.
Honda Classic
Arnold Palmer
TPC
All in the next 3 weeks. Great fields normally. 3 excellent golf courses
The Honda Classic has no top golfers in the field this week. Its getting squeezed by the schedule as they don't like to play 5 weeks in a row.

Hence why LIV has a tournament this weekend. They have to stagger their events to not coincide with big PGA events. If you look, almost all their events are the week after one of the big PGA Tour stops.

More importantly, they need to steer clear of the majors.

It was interesting seeing the reports that Koepka might be having regrets about LIV. He always seemed like the ideal LIV guy. He was not shy about saying how he really only cared about the majors and not really interested in the regular events so LIV would seem ideal. Less tournaments, more money.

But he also has a competitive streak and if the majority of better golfers are on the PGA Tour, does his competitiveness kick in where he wants to be playing against those guys.

Then there is the brother factor. Chase really only has a spot because of his brother. So who wouldn't take a giant payday to play less tournaments as well as make sure your brother makes oodles of money (relatively speaking) himself?

Wow. Just looked it up. 1 top 10 player. It's #10 Svensson.
I still watch a lot of it. The back nine there is tough.

Personality matters in marketing. LIV has Brooks, Bryson, and an almost 52 year old Phil. Sergio and Casey are on the downside of their careers. DJ is a great golfer but along with Phil have taken the most heat for jumping.

The PGA Tour blows them out of the water in that regard.

Cam, who is a legit #1 in the world contender, is likely the best golfer on the LIV Tour. Not a huge personality, but a good, interesting character.

No personality.

He's no longer a world contender. To be a contender you need to play against the best in individual competition. For the big signees on LIV it makes little difference if they finish 1st or 20th.

He will be in all 4 majors this year. The #1 player in the world every year is the one that does the best on the biggest stages.

Well, he's not #1 in the World Golf Rankings. John Rahm is followed by Scheffler and Rory. He's #5 and only LIV golfer in the Top 20.
