Yeah idk, I didn't research it or anything really just coming up with reasons southern highschools have better sports teams. But tbh it's probably because they care more and put more energy/effort into youth sports.. less alternative activities as well but Jersey is far behind although I try and talk us up within other states..
Also regional schools in NJ usually have good teams, I believe cedar Creek in South Jersey is one, Rutgers has gotten some good players from atco township/cedar Creek .
Its not that complicated. North jersey parochials have a combined like 500-750 kids that otherwise would be at the publics. Theres barely any privates with pulses in SJ

Yeah all the best kids from Essex county, Paterson/Passaic little leagues end up at Depaul or Paramus Catholic or St Peter's...seems a different one becomes a highschool power house every couple of years to go along with the main stays of bc, St Joe's and din bosco

Although I remember holy Cross being good in South Jersey...I remember when I was in middle school they had a squad...wali Lundy, James Townsend and a cpl other players..they were good..idk if they are still around..

But then again old tappan is always decent at sports, they are a regional school up north..idk if they are good currently..it's something that makes regional schools more organized or something..idk

Holy Spirit and St Augustine has more than a pulse. HS is usually in the semifinals of Group B every year.

Augie just don’t have the depth to compete vs the Big North teams. They have their years they get to the second round but only to take that 130 mile ride up north to Bosco or Bergen.

Regional schools usually are in rural/ suburban settings where they get students from multiple towns/ cities. Some are big enough to be in the large groups (Group 3/4/5), some are still small to be in the small school groups (Groups 1/2). And yes, it depends on the individual schools on how their programs are run. It’s not a guarantee that a large school would be a great program as there’s some Group 1 schools who would slaughter Group 5s.

Ha, I didn't do any research, either, and likely know less than you about it. But I always thought the North Jersey schools were better at most things. I think Kyk made a good point that I didn't think of -- we don't have all the parochial super-schools drawing off so much talent from the publics (although I think St. Augustine is heading in that direction).

P.s. Rutgers picked up offensive lineman Jon Stone from my other Jersey hometown, Washington Township. He did early enrollment in January. Hoping for great things from him...

Lol I was really talking about southern states like Georgia, fla, NC. Guys from the south always talking down on NJ football...should be such a cheat code for recruiting NJ or Northern players...last week when LSU got smoked by fla state, Ryan Clark's complaint was that they got a transfer duce chestnut starting when their are plenty of real football players in Louisiana or the south wanting to play for LSU...if I were the Rutgers coaches I'd record that and send it to Camden high with a letter saying "stay home"..

Problem is that half here don’t think the Camden kids who got offers/commited to Power 5 teams are not good enough to play for Rutgers.

Micah next , lol

Rutgers was the first school on Mathews. He really liked it here. Not that it matters now, but who knows if Schiano can work his magic ??
You can hit the search function here and look up how some here say both are not good enough for Rutgers.

SJR beat Don Bosco 21-0 in a weird game that was delayed 3 times due to weather/lightning. Game was stopped early 3rd on Saturday and resumed Monday at 3:30 PM. Another 2 weather/lightning delays on Monday and game was ended early 4th Q.

At least these two are close enough, unlike Bosco and Donavon, who had to make a second 200 mile round trip up the parkway the day after their playoff game was postponed because of weather issues few years back.

Why is New Brunswick and Franklin playing a game the same time RU has a home game on Saturday?

The schools ADs couldn’t find time Thursday or Friday?

This is for @kyk1827 or anyone else who has a subscription to NFHS Network. Yea I’m a cheap bastard but I’ve seen how horrible most of their basketball and esp football coverage is, esp compared those YouTube channels who broadcast games for free. But I’m may bite the bullet and get a monthly sub and check out some of these games.

Questions:
-Can I watch ANY game in the country (Texas, Florida, Cali, etc) or am I stuck with watching the games that D1 Media Pro Goof broadcast in this area?
-Can I watch games from previous seasons as well or just current season?

Thank you.

All depends if the school posts it. But yes, you can get games in every state as long as school posts it. Give me some schools and ill look them up for you

Bosco and Bergen Catholic not up to snuff. SJR looks to be easy #1.

I’ll send you a msg for the schools I’m looking for. But I already know that all Newark Schools and most of Jersey City schools have this D1Media Pro goof shilling for them…

I hope you are correct on that. Bergen always gives SJR fits. I said before the season I thought SJR was going to be much better this year. Trending that way. Go Green Knights!

Could be SJRs year. Too early to tell so far but it would be great if Donavon Catholic (3-0) or St Augustine (2-1) finally have enough to slay the Big North.

Esp Donavon with their excellent skill players.

He was the announcer on nfhs for shabazz/cedar grove and he was a total riot haha. He was chirping the cedar grove coaches next to him who were coaching while he was calling the game haha.

Fun fact, I played the first ever game on that weequhaic turf and we beat them 48-0 in 2008. Had a passing td at qb and 2 ints on D at FS

Mannnnn. I hated Untermann Field and that was my home field in 88-89 (this was before my HS got its own field in 2000). First year it reopened and the grass field had divots and potholes. Twisted my knee chasing a RB and was done for the game. Rather play my games at old Schools Stadium.

BTW, you got Mail.

State football finals will look a little unusual this fall.

The NFL scheduled the Jets on Black Friday and the Giants two days later, so MetLife Stadium is not available on Thanksgiving weekend.

Both Non-Public finals will be held on Nov. 28 at MetLife Stadium. The five Public finals will be held at Rutgers, split between Sunday, Nov. 26 and Wednesday, Nov. 29. Teams that still play traditional Thanksgiving games will play on the later date.

4-0. Always in Group B Playoffs every year
Spirit was outplayed and fortunate to get the W (although I am a Township homer). Township had two TDs called back (not that they were bad calls, but just shows how the game went).

Spirit did have a near touchdown in the second quarter, actually, but intercepted in the end zone (after a 5-6 yard punt by Township).

They have a great kicker who hit some long field goals (2). He was out kicking 45 yarders in warmups.

Good luck to all teams. Spirit should go far...
