Big fan of “you really got me” by Van Halen but I have two recommendations:

Me first and the gimme gimmes ... a must see live.

The Living End ... prob my favorite band

Most intimidating pit I saw was when Anthrax performed at Sayreville. A small pit, but there were some cats who just didn’t look right.
Slipknot Convention Hall Asbury Park was scary.
Slayer at Roseland Ballroom was right up there.

That's almost it ! At least I think. Find me a place to get that copy and I will never post on your weather thread again.lol
It doesn't have the Godzilla punk version though. But probably the same UK record company. Flying Lizards Money was definitely on it. And Walk on By
For that offer, I'll buy you one, myself, lol. Seriously, though, if you're looking for vinyl, just click on the "Buy Vinyl" button on the page I linked and there are a few dozen folks selling the album for $5-7 each. Don't think it was released on CD, but if you want the songs digitally, I'm sure you can find them all on the internet at "sharing" (stealing) locations like Soulseek, since the website includes links to videos for 9 of the songs available on youtube. Also, the one you had mentioned - was that a CD or on vinyl? If it's on CD, I'll keep an eye out, as I still buy used CDs at Princeton Record Exchange and Vintage Vinyl and often pick up compilations like that.

I figured I should add one...it’s too bad this woman is not more popular...I guess when you’re not shaking your ***, perpetually selfing, auto tuning or sounding like one of 100 Ariana grande crap-a-likes, talent alone does not get noticed as much...

This woman is just talented!

How is the Hold Steady. We went to see Craig Finn at the Wonder Bar a couple of years ago, and we almost fell asleep.

I've seen them 5 or 6 times now, I love them. Lot of energy, quite different from Craig solo. Fans are always into the show and a lot of sing alongs. Very passionate fan base.

Simon and Garfunkel were brilliant songwriters and first-ballot HOFers, but I've always wondered how immortal they'd be now had they added a third member who had some pipes and could blend a little more passion into their music. This cover by Disturbed might not be everybody's cup of tea (it's mine, though, I like it a lot), but it can't be denied that the energy this guy sings with adds a lot to an already great song.

Let's face it, most people on this board sounded as good as Paul Simon does when singing in the shower this morning...

It was vinyl.
I'm at Princeton Record Exchange at least once a month. Also a place in Levittown, Bucks County called Positively Records very similar type store.

Seen the Hold Steady twice and would agree 100% with your assessment. Lot of similarity with the Gaslight Anthem, IMO - both great straight ahead rock and roll bands.

That's awesome! My 14yr old isn't into the same music I like. Although she is opening her mind more to it as she gets older.

Always so hard to figure out what's going to happen with kids. We never pressured our son about his music tastes, even when he was 8-10 and into boy bands and other crappy pop, but we did make sure that he heard all kinds of great music of all genres and we hoped it would "take." Eventually, he started getting into indie/alt/punk by his early teens, along with his friends and that's when we helped encourage that by taking him to so many shows. Then, he started going way beyond us, using the internet and becoming quite the expert in almost every genre imaginable - he has 200,000 songs on his iPod (I have maybe 30,000) - and then becoming the drummer of a pretty popular DIY band in the NB area and even Philly/NYC. But on the flip side, he never got into sports much, despite my attempts to interest him in them - can't win 'em all.

So, with your daughter, all I would say is to try to find out what she likes and then to encourage her by showing interest in her selections (even if not your favorites) - maybe ask her to "DJ" in the car or around the house and if there are a few bands she really likes, see if you can get tickets to take her to see them (sometimes "sweetening the pot" by saying she can bring a friend). And if you let her pick the music, hopefully she'll reciprocate and you can then play her some of your NOFX, Nirvana, Jesus & Mary Chain, NIN and Jill Sobule and maybe she'll like some of it. Just some ideas, but you know your daughter best, and I'm sure it'll all work out. Good luck!

Can 466 Million people be wrong?
Don't think so...but do enjoy a good cover.

Interesting take on the song...…….done with anger............appropriate for today. S & G more sadness, reflection, and quiet desperation. I still prefer the S&G version.

Loving this thread. Alot of good ones already posted. Always a fun time at a show when a band you like busts into a song by another artist you like. Above one is much more modern then most discussed but one of my favorites.

Also for you younger people....one of my concert highlights of all time was sticking around for the encore of a linkin park concert in holmdel. Jay z came out and did a bunch of songs with them which would then go on to be collision course....but that was the first time I believe they performed together in public.

That's a good one too.

I know there are some DMB hater around here but their covers of long black veil from listener supported and Cortez the killer from central park are both fantastic.

O.A.R. does a nice version of fool in the rain as well.

I enjoy it most of the time. However, I saw Weezer in Philly last Wednesday and they did no less than 6 covers or partial covers:

Take On Me -Aha
Longview - Green Day
Paranoid - Black Sabbath
Happy Together - The Turtles
We Wish you a Merry Christmas

and of course...
Africa by Toto

For an established band, there's no way 1/4 of their headlining setlist should be covers by other bands especially when they have an extensive back catalog. That was 6 out of 22 songs by the way.

Did you see the Weezer SNL skit from this past weekend? I pretty much have this same argument with my friend every time we go see them, lol.

FYI - The lady in that argument was right, Weezer since Green blows.....except for their covers.

I agree that an established band should highlight their own hits but the ratio isn't important to me. A prime example is Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. Johnny Lyons has a huge catalogue of songs he has written but he and the band are fabulous at covering hits and making it their own with the horn section and Southside delivery. They just flat out entertain. Two of their favorite covers are these.

Yes but we pulled a T2K and left during the encore to beat the traffic. I was in bed by 12. I mean really, how many times to do I have to hear Say it Ain't So anyway?

Zack Brown and Foo Fighters also tend to play more covers than needed at times given their strong catalog of music.

really great cover of a real great song.

Paul Simon's best moment, and that's saying a lot.

this singer did it really great, and showed what a powerful song it is.

bought the S&G SOS 45 when it first hit.

S&G recorded it without the backing band.

the record company added the backing after the fact.

not sure the duo was too pleased about that, but imho, it was better with the backing band.

hats off again to Disturbed.

would love to be able to walk into a karaoke bar some night, and blow everybody's socks off with those pipes.

sounds even better on this live version.

and how can any best "cover's" thread not include this.

(just skip the 1st 1min 10 secs of horrible intro).

sometimes something just works even though you think it shouldn't.

if nothing else, shows what a great cord progression it is.
