Nick I have to be a Met fan to make an observation ? I am a BASEBALL fan and I watch obvious trends that sometimes become patterns. Lets hope this is a blip on his radar screen.I know he got robbed last night but he looks out of whack.
Sorry, I should have never used that kind of language.
Any way before the all star and homerun derby, it was stated that the home run derby can throw off your timing.
What do you think?

Yes it can but not in his case. I just think he has hit the inevitable wall.He has never faced this many games under a huge media microscope. In New York. With a team that needs him way too much for a newbie.. This is all new for him.He will be all right.

1/21. HR derby could be the culprit.
He faces Bartolo Colon tonight.

Not sure which happens first, yanks go under 500 or Judge dips under 300....... he strikes out a ton which made his high average hard to maintain. I think he settles in as a 275 hitter, still very good

Home Run Derby could be the culprit, it has affected other players before. It could also be as pitchers become more familiar with him, they know how to pitch to him. Or possibly Jon Bon Jovi, er, Jackie Bradley Junior has gotten into his head.

I'm not a Yankee fan (longtime O's fan) but he is certainly fun to watch when he's up (and if Im flipping the channels I will stop, similar to when Strawberry was in his prime. Loved to watch him hit) Anyway, I looked up his stats: over 116 games he is batting 283 with 34 homers and 76 RBI's Very good stats, hardly Ruthian

And Judge hit #31 last night that I think just landed. When you hit one into the last row of the upper deck, it's time to start building bigger parks.

The guy had a tough week, but was still taking a good approach at the plate, overall. Looks like he might be getting back on track with bat. #AllRise

Or he could just be tired. The season is long. Sometimes I think people forget this kid is 25..he isn't even in his man strength years yet (26-28)

And that quickly, you have your answer.

Lately he has been the 2nd coming of Ruth Buzzi.
This thread is proof positive of the Scarlet Nation jinx.
Ruth Buzzi.

Post All Star Game- 41 Strike outs, 15 hits, batting .169.
What happens next?

Ruth not only holds records for hitting but he was maybe not the best pitcher of his time but close to it.

So he hit more home runs in his prime than entire teams - and still hold World Series pitching records - so no.

It's not even close - Babe Ruth was the best ever and nobody is coming close ever. imo

When Whitey Ford broke the record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched in the World Series it was the Babe's record that he broke.

I remember some describing Darryl Strawberry when he first came up as a black Ted Williams. For that matter his high school bud Eric Davis drew comparisons to Willie Mays. Those guys were solid major leaguers but never quite reached the (perhaps unrealistic) hype. The likelihood is Judge will be a lot closer to Eric Davis than Babe Ruth when all is said and done.

I agree that based on the fact that he was a great pitcher and a dominate home run king in the day of many fewer home runs, he was the best ever

yet, I think if he was around today a young man, trying to make the league , he would not be half the player he was then.... I look at his swing, his physique, it would have been a disaster....

we could then argue that he would not look or be as he was then, in todays world, with training and care for your body....

yet, there are may great players from the past I would think you could transport in time and have them still be great players....he was not one of them.

Right now looks like Dave Kingman, a lot of strikeouts.
-------------
I was going to post early on here that he would hit a stretch of
bad games, it was only natural..... it is probably a combination of
pitchers finding a little weakness in his game, and a normal batting slump.....

remember Ron Swoboda getting off to a fairly hot start for the mets his first month or so, with a bunch of home runs, only to be stopped cold after pitchers figured him out better....of course, that was not on the scale of Judge.

Completely disagree. He had incredible hand-eye coordination, bat speed and power, all of which would translate just as well to today's game as his era.

The only way to come close to comparing across eras is to look at stats relative to the rest of the league while playing. Ruth dominated his sport like no one else, ever, in any sport.

I think Ruth was the greatest baseball player ever, based on his dominance in home run hitting, and having been an all star pitcher.

there is no question as to his place in baseball

I love the haters on here. Adam Dunn?? Really? He sucked at defense and when he finally did hit a homer he acted like an ***.

I once saw Kingman make a shoe string catch against the wall, lol.
---
I once thought that if the Chicago Cubs put Kingman in the lineup, played him every day despite making errors in the field, or striking out five times in one game, he would have broken the Maris's home run record for a season.... He would frustrate the hell out of you one day, then hit two or three homers thereafter....

As Barry Goldwater once said:"I would remind you.........................that back in June on this thread I quoted what Bob Gibson said about Dwight Gooden in 1985:"Dwight Gooden will never again be as good as he is right now."

Judge is probably another Frank Howard at best.

What? He will beat Adam Dunn best year in his rookie season. Please stop.
Adam Dunn hit 462 HRs and drove in over 1100. Aaron Judge had one good half. He'll be fortunate to reach Dunn' s career numbers.
And by the way, Dunn hit 46 once and 40 five other times. We'll see if Judge gets to 46.
