Mets Gold Glove drought continues. Neither David Peterson nor Luis Torrens, the Mets two nominees, were selected. The last Met to win a GG was Juan Lagares in 2014.

I had never heard of Cota or Cuevas. But then, they have never heard of me either.

Alonso and Diaz have both officially opted out as expected. Minter has opted to return, also as expected.

Montas also exercised his option. Nothing surprising going on yet with the team.

Hard to be enthused over a guy who put up an ERA over 6 in the minors.

Well given the hatred of Hefner that has been expressed by some on this board, maybe this announcement should be cause for rejoicing.
I don't care about Hefner. I was focused on Richardson. Imagine what he will do for fast guys like Michael Harris

Richardson was really good. Not sure what he saw but those SB % s were amazing

I would hope that the Met players and other coaches in the team learned enough to retain what he showed them

Is there a reason you're in the Yankees thread trying to sell the virtues of adding Pete into their lineup? Not that Cashman looks or even cares what you have to say.

Well, because I talk baseball to everyone. Do you think anyone I am talking to has any influence on who Pete signs with.
kind of a weird take.

As expected, Mets make a qualifying offer to Edwin Diaz. There is no chance he will take it, however, it provides a compensatory draft pick if he signs elsewhere.

Of course not, but reading some of the responses, it sounds like their mocking you because they know you're a Mets fan. Why bother, it's hardly an honest baseball convo and it's not a weird take, it's an honest observation.

you think TK2 is a Yankee fan- he trolls both the Met and Yankee threads. No one is mocking anyone.

Mets claimed Ji Hwan Bae off waivers from the Pirates and Jose Castillo from the Orioles.

Interesting. At a time when most teams are pruning their 40 man rosters, the Mets are adding to theirs. Their 40 man now stands at exactly 40. That is AFTER all their free agents have been removed. Their roster includes 26 pitchers. 26! Obviously unsustainable, and will be pruned.

I don't mind seeing Castillo back, he was pretty good last year.

One other move. They have non-tendered Nick Madrigal (who spent all last year on the IL) and he is a free agent.

Mets to hire Tim Leiper as 3B coach. He filled that role for the Padres last year.
Padres hired Craig Stammen as their manager. Well liked guy but has zero experience at any level as a manager or a coach!!!!!! This is for a win now team. The last two managers were veterans (Shildt & Melvin). Preller wanted someone he could push around. Each year that goes by I dislike him more and more. In the past three years he's traded Juan Soto, Trent Grisham, MacKenzie Gore, James Wood and CJ Abrams. His total return: Randy Vazquez.
I hope all of this doesn't push Ruben Niebla out the door as he was a finalist for the job. He's a really good pitching coach.

At least with trading Soto- he did get King. But can they keep him?

Would love to hear some real takes on some of the things we hear fans asking for.
dump McNeil to free up cash, dump Nimmo to free up cash, don’t sign Pete, he is a negative in run protection
Dump Senga, trade Peterson

etc

my take- not much you can do with McNeil or Nimmo. Both are actually good players but over paid. Not sure who could replace Nimmo though.
Signing Pete- would be a mistake for both Pete and the Mets if he goes elsewhere. The only places that could benefit Pete would be the Mets worst nightmares. If Pete goes to any 25 or so other places, off field money is not as good and chances of a HOF bid gets lessor.
Pitching- I want to see if Hefner may have been the problem. Every veteran pitcher on the team went to **** at the same time. Also- not sure how healthy any of them were.

trade prospects not named McLean to get Skubal and signing Diaz is a no brainer.
