What does the board think:
I was watching SNY's Mets Hot Stove, and Todd Zeile made a great point about run prevention. 1B isn't figuring into the equation as much as up-the-middle defense, outfield, and arms (pitching). If defense does figure in, it's more of a talking point to devalue 1B further. How is it that Kyle Schwarber is valued more than Pete when Schwarber doesn't even play the field? Teams are willing to pay Schwarber more and for a longer contract than Pete. Stearns needs to focus on the real run prevention problem rather than devaluing a player who can help your team. IMO, the pitching lab has been a mixed bag, but Stearns is not going to blame himself for his failures to help the team.
FYI: Pete has expressed his willingness to DH, as confirmed by his agent Scott Boras.
