A-Rod was a better fielding SS than Jeter by far but Jeter couldn't bring himself to admit that.I was thinking about Lindor just now- Not only will he end up the best SS in NYM history, what does he have to do to be the best ever? I wanted to lean on championships, but that may not be fair- he is a consistent "true" GG guy, he will most likely end up with 1500 runs 1400 RBI, 400 HR 350 SB
The only true SS to compare would be Jeter and he will end up with more runs, hits and rings but was not even close to the power or fielding.
At the time he came to the Yankees- Derek was still pretty good.A-Rod was a better fielding SS than Jeter by far but Jeter couldn't bring himself to admit that.
All of these WAR's and other advanced stats just grind at my old time baseball self. lol
- Honus Wagner - 127.2
- A-Rod - 113.6
- Cal Ripken Jr. - 92.5
- Derek Jeter - 73.0
- Luke Appling - 72.6
- Arky Vaughan - 72.4
- Ozzie Smith - 67.6
- Barry Larkin - 67.0
- Joe Cronin - 66.6
- Robin Yount - 66.5
- Lou Boudreau - 64.4
- Alan Trammell - 63.7
- Ernie Banks - 63.3
- Pee Wee Reese - 61.2
- Francisco Lindor - 57.1
I mean, I get it, back when Appling/Reese etc type guys played, it was a different game.
But, let's really do a true eyeball.
Wagner- just hard to say anything against him as even Beaced didn't see him play...but maybe he will always deserve number 1.
I actually feel that Jeter owns the spot right now. I know that so many kill him for defense but while he may not have been great- he was always in the right place at the right time. And his lifetime and yearly stats are just so consistently good to great.
AROD- roids and more than half his career at 3B, Ripken, tons of his stats are 3B. Appling/Vaughn???? Ozzie- he was a magician but how much was aided by the turf (to be fair, he would have been a great fielder regardless) - but dude became a better hitter but since Lindor is a really good fielder, Lindor is better. Larkin- love him but not better. Cronin??? Yount- played a lot of OF but he wasn't better even when at SS.
Broudreau??? Trammel- Loved him but not better- just a very long career, Banks- majority of his career was not at SS
I do think Lindor is pushing that top 5 at this point. If he can find an MVP...hmmmmm
Jeter has to be one of the worst defensive shortstops over the past few decades that actually started regularly. Almost every SS out there was in the lineup due to his defense (like Ordonez) and the ones that were superior hitters usually moved somewhere else if they were poor or even mediocre fielders...Derek Jeter was one of the most overrated defensive ss of all time. His range was bad, his career dWar was like -9. He won GG’s based on his offense.
Should have gone changeup up 1-2 in the count. Muncy has been on a home run tear lately. And unlike most of us lefties he likes the ball up. Maybe Alvarez wasn't paying attention to what Muncy did in that list inning because it was basically the same pitch on the 2nd home run as the 1st. Hard to imagine since he was right behind the plate. At least Brazoban did regroup quickly.Knew that was coming as soon as Diaz didn’t come in to close it out. Hope we can get to extras and still pull out the W
What's the deal with Mendoza having Diaz pitch back to back days? Yet he throw Brazoban out there after he threw 32 pitches the night before like Diaz (19 pitches). It's like Mendoza has more faith and trust in guys who have less of a track record than Diaz.Knew that was coming as soon as Diaz didn’t come in to close it out. Mendoza is willing to pitch Diaz back to back. What he is not willing to do is have Diaz pitch four out of five, which would have been the case last night. At least not in June he isn't.What's the deal with Mendoza having Diaz pitch back to back days? Yet he throw Brazoban out there after he threw 32 pitches the night before like Diaz (19 pitches). I can't even try to find fault in pitching management at this point. Brazoban has been lights out most of the season. If Mendoza wants to keep Diaz fresh for the dog days and the playoffs- we really have some live arms in the BP. So- I wouldn't worry about a single game.Mendoza is willing to pitch Diaz back to back. You manage for 162. Hopefully more than that.
Exactly. Get the split which gives us the season series W which could be important at the end of the year in a tie breaking scenario. Hopefully the win comes tonight and we can play with some house money tomorrow afternoon.Another good game. Didn't go our way this time. Still in good shape for at least a split.
Premature and silly. He hung in and finished well. Besides, the Dodgers are 1st or 2nd in all of MLB in offensive categories.Mets: "We're going to have a glut of starting pitching! What are we going to do?"
Tylor Megill: "Hold my beer."
Barring injuries, it is likely that Megill will go down, when both Montas and Manaea return. Megill needs to send management the message that he absolutely MUST stay up. He did not do that last night. He doesn't have very many more chances left.Premature and silly. He hung in and finished well. 4 or 5 outs? It was the bottom of the 9th in 5-4 game. All you needed was 3 outs. Also, your answer runs counter to why Brazoban was allowed to pitch after he threw 30+ pitches the day after?Mendoza is willing to pitch Diaz back to back. I get it's long season, but there are certain games where you want to make a statement to a team you may face in the post season. Anyone who has played sports at any level understand the mental aspect of the game is just as important as the physical. The Mets had and still have an opportunity to create doubt in the minds of the Dodgers even if it's for a minute. That plays big later in post season when the opponent faces the same situation. Think of it this way, when stars come to play at Madison Square Garden they take their game to another level. Show up and show out because it's the big stage. It's how others see, judge, and develop fear of you.No pitch 4 times in 5 days.
His numbers remind me of Scott Kazmir’s when he was in the Mets systemBing had an early one today that's still going. Jonah Tong with another dominant start. The walks all came in the 2nd inning and was unhittable besides that.

Lindor should be starting. no questions asked. Pete- hard call, how does he get the start over Freeman? But Pete should be on the team. diaz should make it and Senga...Peterson is having an AS type season but I doubt he makes it.All-Star voting is now open. I just voted for Lindor and Alonso. I hope Lindor gets in this time and starts. Rather than someone less deserving like Dansby Swanson, Cruz or DelaCruz. I'm sure that either Freeman or Harper will probably win the vote for 1B, but I think this year Alonso is deserving of making the team. I wouldn't have said that last year.

Might be hard to keep Canning off that list. Should be considered not necessarily making the AS thoughGuys that should be considered for AS are:
Lindor
Pete
Senga
Peterson
Diaz
Maybe Holmes
At least 3 should make it. My gut feeling is 4 will make it.
You can say the same for any starter not named Megill.Might be hard to keep Canning off that list. Should be considered not necessarily making the AS though
