I'm with the consensus on this one. I have no problem with trading any or all of the three. I do have a problem with the return.
But what do I know about the market value of these guys. Stearns has been talking to 29 other teams to determine that, and I haven't been talking to any.
If I had to do it over again based on how he's performed since even before the mid-summer classic, he sure would not have gotten my vote. He nor Alonso.

Mets give up their #8 (Baez), #14 (Dohm), and unranked (Elissalt).
By contrast, to get Duran, the Phil's gave up their #4 (#56 in Top 100) and #6 (#92 in Top 100). They seem to have paid more than the Mets, but they got two years of team control.
Given the team's resources and how elite these two are, they probably plan on working out extensions on both of them I'd think
It's far from a given that a guy who had 49 saves as recently as last year would entertain the idea of being a setup man. Not unless he were to get closer money.
Diaz will likely opt out this year. Which is not to say that the Mets can't re-sign him.

He was at .280 at the all-star break but he was never going to be a .280 hitter and likely never will be. Too many holes for pitchers to exploit. What for a time looked like it could be a epic season of like .275/45/130 for him now looks more like his normal. 255/35/105. Not bad by any stretch. Just not eye popping, career year numbers.
We need one for sure in my eyes. Only thing we can do consistently is steal bases. Unfortunately they still haven't altered the rules to allow players to steal first base. Not convinced we couldn't use a frontline starter either. Cant have everything though. Especially not with the cost we're paying for rentals so far.
FWIW, Stearns has said that the Mets aren't necessarily looking for a starter, but would consider pulling the trigger on a FRONTLINE starter. That is, someone who would start Game 1 or 2 of a playoff series. I don't see him dealing for a back of the rotation type.
Reports out of San Diego says that they're open to hearing offers for Suarez who'll be a FA. I guess they figure they can use either Adam or Morejon as a closer.

I trust Peterson and I trust Manea. Even though there is some concern about how the elbow will hold up on the latter. But I'd love to see a 3rd guy who is a stud. I mean someone who can go pitch for pitch with a Zach Wheeler, Freddy Peralta or Blake Snell if theyre putting up zeroes in a late season or post season game. Yeah, yeah i know. Who wouldn't like that?

Very quick and rough calculations:
Nimmo is striking out at a rate of about 34-35% per at bat for the last 7 and 15 days.
Lindor is about the same, perhaps slightly worse.
Alonso- 30-31%
Soto- 30-31%
And it is a credible argument.
In 2006, less than 20 years ago, the average MLB batting average was .269 - and that was with pitchers hitting in the NL. In 2025, the average BA is .246. That is actually an increase from last year's .243.
So, if Pete finishes at .260 or even .250, he can argue he has an above-average BA with superior power.
I would add that in 2006, the worst team average was .255. That average would be tied for third in 2025.
