OT: Primetime Purge In Colorado

I'm surprised at the volume and that he's done it at a time that seems pretty late.
Just FYI, all these players would still have to have their scholarships honored at Colorado if they chose to stay. Obviously just as a student though, not on the team.
But as I say often when people complain about NIL, portal etc...players want to play so most of them will likely move on to other landing spots. There's always an opportunity to find contributing talent for any program not just the high status ones.

College sports at its worst. The new NCAA rule that a new coach can cut 10 players is quite telling, prioritizing the interests of the coach over the interests of the “students”. And Sanders will just cut 60 players anyway.
There's more to the purge at Colorado than just the quality of football.
UC was once a top CFB program with the third most NFL players - and good bowls and top rankings.
Then the program went to seed with all kinds of sketchy business surrounding it.
There were always charges real and imagined, and both kept UC down while some quality coaches and players avoided the place.
Sanders is focused on fixing all that in conspicuous fashion.
When he makes it clear he doesn't like some players he doesn't always mean they are bad performers.
One new transfer from Dec- Deuce Roberson - has a broad cloud of sexual abuse scandals following him and there are student petitions to get rid of him.
He's not the kind of player Prime wants around.
He was from Colorado and picked UC as he left a CC program.
He is now gone from UC football
On most CFB teams there are some players who will go to a party and break furniture and pull girls pigtails.
If enough of that type jell as a group the bottom can fall out.
That's where Colorado has been a Sanders knows it
There are too many players on a cfb team to get all tangled-up in each one and or try to babysit.
Sanders is keeping focused on the flipping the script as fast and as thorough as possible.
He wants HIS type of player he's not shy about it.
Media crying about Sanders "mean purge" would be the first to make accusations if purged players acted-up.

I would not be surprised if Colorado wins the pac 12 in 2024 .

It's not UC. It's CU. All of the former Big 8 schools put the "U" last.

Thinking about this a little more and I think it would be difficult for most coaches to execute this model. Deion is unique to put it mildly in terms of personality, approach and background.
Is the fact many will not have stepped on the practice field together till the end of July a concern?
That’s why they’re doing an Amazon Prime documentary on the season. I anticipate that restocking with HBCU players won’t work out well in 2023 but if there is NIL money then Sanders will be able to recruit. They have a good chance of being more relevant in 2024 than RU is.

Colorado has 29 transfer portal players (the #1 class). They have guys transferring from Florida, Clemson, Alabama, WVU, Kentucky, Ole Miss, etc. The group will be on campus this summer. The quality of players coming in is far better than those exiting. Prime is positioning the program to be much better than 1-11. I suspect by year 2, the team will be much improved.

He posts about God practically every day and even the SAs would choke on that.
Then he says things like that he looks for qbs with high grades and two parents, while on defense he wants broke, single mothers with sons that want to rescue them.
Not many coaches could say things like that.
Plus he does know football.
I first realized that Prime ran a little deeper than the "Neon Deion" of the past when I saw him on Bear Grylls talking about a suicide attempt
Prime sounds like Coach Mac during my days at CU. Everything revolved around the lord. Around 90% of the team attended bible studies during the week or the morning of gameday... like it or not. When people like that speak, it may scare you if you're not a believer. It's because their tone and words are powerful, and you feel the need to follow if you want to succeed. You trust what Coach Mac and Prime have to say.
One social media post said that players didn't see Prime coaching any of them, and the assistants treated players differently depending on their status on the team. Newsflash, a strong head coach, is a CEO type; the assistants do all the heavy lifting, and separating players has been around forever. It's called a pecking order. It sounds like many players transferring out were on easy street due to an ineffective HC from the last few years. They were 1-11 for a reason.
People say that because there is a dislike for Prime, and he's doing it his way. Coach Mac did something similar in the 80s at CU, and no one complained. Schiano ran plenty of Ash's players off, and few complained.
Which program will win more conference games over the next 3 years, CU or RU?
Hate on Deon all you want but he is not planning an 8 year rebuild and calling CU a Developmental program. He is looking for immediate W’s for his team. That’s why CU’s Spring game was a sellout with bad weather. How many will show up in Piscataway on Saturday?
I was going a little more simple than that: he's got the gravitas of a larger than life NFL personality.

Agreed. He’s literally changing the program culture by bringing in new players who was not around for the 1-11 seasons. And he would say fire him if he didn’t get the job done.
However there’s a section here that would fight tooth an nail to prevent Deion from coaching here.
Where else has he coached? I know he has been an insanely successful athlete and okay TV personality, but did I miss some stops on the coaching trail other than Jackson?

Fair enough. But we will need to see. Running a major program as CEO is a different ballgame but he definitely has the personality for it. It may come down to the grinders he hires to support him.
I’m curious to see how he does. The volume and lateness of the moves are surprising but I don’t really have a problem with it because players are allowed to leave with a new coach too or if they feel opportunity is better elsewhere. It should be a two way street. Coaches and players have to suck it up and deal with reality of the landscape.

I think results will depend on his staff, specifically Kelly and Lewis, so we’ll see. USC and UCLA are leaving after this year so there’s opportunity to move up in year 2.

For the record, I could care equally less/more if he succeeds or fails, whatever those definitions entail.
But I can guarantee this, there will be a cadre of disloyal "fans" rooting for RU's current coach to fail and find ways to sully his reputation. Kind of weird for a RU fan board, but NJ and RU fans always have liked to eat their own. They reap what they sow.
There is more than one way to right the ship.
Jeff Brohm took a program that was 9-39 (3-30 in conference)under Darell Hazell to 7-6/4-5 in year 1, beating an SEC team, Iowa and winning a bowl game. They lost 4 games by 8 points or less.
It will a lot easier to turnaround a PAC12 team. Kaleb DeBoer took a 4-8 Washington to 11-2 in his first year.
Sometimes turnarounds take a while. While he had been at Tulane for a while, Willie Fritz took a 2-10 Tulane in 2021 to 12-2 in 2022, defeating USC in the Cotton Bowl.
The portal jumps have more to do with the portal rules than Prime

These college guys want to pretend they're valuable with NIL and all that bs but then we are supposed to feel bad that a coach comes in and tells them to kick rocks? They wanted to be paid like they're pros and now he's treating them like it's Pro. I'm rooting for Deion. You all complain this is such big business now, well that's exactly how he's handling it.
These stories remind me of the idiot softball players whose Mommies complained to NJ.com and tried to get a hit article to scare Rutgers into firing her because she was making them do actual training and get in shape. OMG the horror. Fast forward a few years and the team is in a much better place.
