We are getting stuck on nomenclature. It doesn’t matter what you call the job, we just need someone who can work on the roster full-time. It needs to be a full-time job.
I'm seeing it as a matter of the scope of the role, unless we're just using "GM" as a glorified title that doesn't include the authority that would typically come with it.

A true GM fully takes over roster construction decisions from Sha and he just coaches the players he's given - I'm guessing that's a non starter.

A different title - or glorified "GM" in title only does the leg work while letting Sha retain decision making.

That can’t be the way it works, we definitely agree on that. Coach needs to have major input, and final say, on all roster decisions. But he needs someone who can focus on the roster year round, work with agents, negotiate prices and contracts. It’s too much to expect a coach to do these things in 2025.

And even if a coach theoretically could, what from Sha's background leads anyone to reasonably conclude he could be good at that aspect of the job? To date, he hasn't been. So we are supposed to believe that all of these HOF or top tier coaches need a GM but Sha, with zero NCAA tournaments in 3 years and coming off the worst season any of us can remember, does not need one? And if he's pushing back on this conceptually -- which I don't know is the case -- Felt's job is to figure out a way to get it done anyway.

I know when we start off well this year with the crappy OOC people will use that as a means to excuse the program's failures here, but it shouldn't really change anything.

I’ll do it for an hour at night after my full time job. I’ll check box scores of teams from mid majors and send out some text messages. I’ll do it for half price, how’s $150k sound. I’ll even make it 2 hours a night after the season ends

St. John's has a General Manager. Please don't tell me you think Pitino is reporting up to Matt Abdelmassih.

I don’t think any of the hoops or football programs with GMs have structures where the HC reports up to the GM. Like Bellichek is not reporting up to Mike Lombardi etc. it’s the opposite. Like having an AC devoted to portal movement, dealing with player reps and agents, fundraising and the like.
