Palantir CEO blasting Wall Street for "short-term focus". That's code for we are going to losing money or not profitable for a while. It's a cozy or charming house.
Odd comment given PLTR is up nearly 3x from their direct offering price just a handful of months ago. Is he saying it should be higher? If so then why such a low initial pricing?

I should probably read the actual comments though.

VW stock up 29% today. They announced that they aim to be the gloval EV leader by 2025. Targeting 1 million deliveries in 2021, more than Tesla. Will build 6 battery factories in Europe and aims to cut cell costs 50% using solid-state batteries. Catch Tesla in software by 2025.
If they sell more then TSLA in 2021 wouldn't they be the global leader in 2021?

He is managing expectations. Don’t be surprised at the next quarterly report.

Just saw his comments. The word that comes to mind is BRAVO!

Investing and innovating >>> temporary dividends and profit

The company has been around for nearly two decades. Not sure this is a start up. At best, it’s a reboot. Don’t fall for the buzz words.

I'm seeing some big declines amongst my holding on the ticker this morning.

NRG being one, this on news that the Texas freeze is going to ding their #'s. I was a lighter then I wanted to be in terms of % of portfolio, so I might buy on weakness here.

@patk89 didn't read the article carefully. VW is targeting 1 million EV + Hybrid sales in 2021.
Their new battery technology doesn't begin until 2023. Not sure what they're waiting for.
My guess is that they are still in the final stages of development, working out the kinks in terms of production and such.

Now if I were looking to buy an EV, would I buy on in the final years of old tech? Or wait till the new tech comes out? New tech has some unknowns, typically some bugs and such, but I still think the latter is the clear choice.

never good
True, and we are seeing that reflected in the move of PLUG's stock price since they announced.

But how bad is it? I mean, given they reported negative revenues for 2020, I'm thinking this is just an ironing out of that graph.

I know my brother has been wanting to get in, as he see's their equipment in use at Amazon warehouses, was initially talking about it when it was around these levels in Dec.

What's the 101 value prop for PLUG? Better batteries for large equipment?

I'm not arguing that TSLA does not have the best tech, or make the best EV at the moment. I'm arguing against the idea that TSLA is the equivalent to the greatest sprinter of all time, or that GM and Ford are doomed. These are indeed TSLA fans gone astray type remarks.
Oh yeah, my portfolio is getting punched in the gut today.
I’m predicting a good day for VXX.

Not batteries at all. Fuel Cells. Hydrogen. One benefit right now is weight, as it's much lighter then a battery, another is significantly faster "refueling".

I think it could also be greener, if you tie the hydrogen production to solar and wind, which is what NKLA is building right now. Batteries could obviously do the same, but I think the makeup of the fuel cell has less environmental issues, such as waste, and the mining of materials.

Another thought is batteries could run into material shortages if we see a vast transition to EV and electric grid storage.

So why isn't hydrogen the clear front runner? For one, right now, batteries just hold more power at a much lower price. The other is the explosive nature of Hydrogen.

Nice summary of the PLUG situation. The accounting issues don't seen meaningful, likely more embarrassing. JP Morgan still strong buy on them:

Interesting point there is that their negative rev's in 2020 was due to companies like AMZN and WMT exercising warrants. I was wondering what the cause of the negative revenue was, and I don't see AMZN and WMT owning shares as a negative.

Article notes all warrants have been exercised.

The future of energy. A good watch for anyone with energy in their portfolio.

That was interesting, but they seem to be make a lot of assumptions that I don't get. Utilities have always had issues in investing in new tech, due to their structure. That is definitely an issue but it's not because they are mispricing the assets.

I also don't see anyone trying to build new coal power plants or hydroelectric dams, do you? Then there is the issue of NIMBY which has always been an issue for Nuclear power but is also a big issue in Wind. If you have ever been near those windmills you can see why, they are ugly and really loud.

Hydro electric power is changing rapidly and becoming much more price competitive. Tidal power, micro hydra and submerged river turbines produce consistent, predictable power and have much less environmental impact. Obviously they are limited because you need water nearby, but they are a much better option where they are operable. Hydrogen is also very interesting.

As these systems become smaller and more price competitive I think you will see more industry and eventually residential move toward operating their own systems rather than relying on the grid. The grid is a mess for many reasons, and nobody at the federal level seems to be doing anything about it.

Glad I took a pass - I was closely considering TDOC because the “Motley Fool Rule Breakers” listed it as a must buy and I quote “This telemedicine leader has never looked healthier.” At least I’m not paying for the Motley Fool service since it was free with AMEX credit.

I know AMZN has the name, but TDOC does have a big lead in the space, and has seen monster revenue growth in the past 5 years. Also consider that despite AMZN's dominance in online retail, many companies have grown their online sales significantly in recent years.

Buying on the dip here might be a good play. This has been a level of support since late summer.

AMZN has tried to get into and disrupt HC a few times and bailed out. Love Amazon, not sure if this is a core competency that will be successful.

TDOC's FMV via Morningstar is $225 (which is via traditional value metrics).

VXX is a waste of time. The volatility is in tech. Haven’t figured out a way to trade VOLQ.
I don’t have a huge VXX position. It’s one of my hedges and I always seem to make money simply based on the principle what goes up must come down.

And with Halo they just might do it. Watch the sales numbers in the next quarterly report.

Halo seems pretty cool, but not relevant to tele-medicine. AMZN bailed on their big blue sky HC initiative (Haven) and is still trying to figure out who to get into the pharmacy business. Once again, LOVE the Zon and own a ton of it, but when it comes to HC, I will believe it when I see it.

You can be retired by now if you did the following:

GME hits $300 - short
GME goes below $100 - long
Repeat

😜

Except to short 100 shares of GME at $300, I need to have 300k in cash in my account. The margin requirement is keeping this thing up. I’m sure there are less restrictions on the long side.
