I just got in, my feet were soaked.
Yup, it was a mistake to do a first pass at 1 pm. I also have the large open pastures, so the paths I cut to the animals with the snowblower just filled right in from the wind and sleet. Got to the driveway and shop today, which I didn't touch yesterday. The Ariens 28" 301Cc chewed threw it like nothing. I'm glad I paid for the larger engine.
Just finished clearing another 2 inches plus a crust off of the driveway. Along with the foot and a half of shít the fúcking plows left at the end.

post mortem.....i was a little low but not far off. The ratios early made thump 6-9 before the changeover and so alot of places end up in the higher end of range and the sleet certianly delivered adding to some of those totals. Hillsorough with 11.5. Most of central jersey was 8-12 rather than 7-11. Monmout/Ocean was 7-11 not 6-9. southern atlantic was 3-7 not 3-6. spot on north of 78 but that was the easy part and got inland south jersey to philly right..they had 9. Central Park at 10.4 overperformed.
NAM sniffed out the warm nose from its first run on the storm and led the way but failed on ratios and how far north the sleet would push. yet the euro in terms of snowfall was most accurate evenas it didnt really show that warm nose
ratios ratios ratios and at 10 or 12 degrees thats why instead of 4-5 early many saw 7-9 before the changeover
Anything I shoveled yesterday was a solid block of ice but once the sun came out it just peeled up with a shovel in giant blocks so not too bad. Good mid day workout
I'd say we got between 12 and 13 inches, so the storm basically hit the metrics which they'd been touting for most of the week.
The NWS gives a 30% chance of snow for my zip code for Saturday and has upped the probability to 40% for Saturday night and Sunday. Let me quote the forecast discussion:
"We are monitoring the potential for a coastal storm
next weekend. While forecast confidence regarding specific
impacts remains low, there are concerns the storm may track
close enough to the region to bring at least some impacts to
portions of our forecast area.
"Deterministic and ensemble guidance continue to show the
potential of some sort of system developing off the Mid-Atlantic
coast next weekend. The latest 12z forecast guidance is still is all
over the place but there is fair agreement in some sort of
storm developing. The 0z ECMWF had been very bullish with this
storm giving the area a direct hit but the latest run has backed
off. In fact latest EC is pretty similar to GFS while 12z GEM
is very bullish. It should be noted there`s also a lot of spread
in the GFS ensemble members (GEFS).
"In terms of probabilities and potential impacts....the latest NBM
has 24 hour probabilities of snowfall > 4 inches around 20 to
25 percent across most of the area. In terms of timing, if this
storm affects us it could arrive as early as late day Saturday
and then last through Sunday. It should also be noted that this
storm may have significant winds with it such that even if the
center of the storm tracks well offshore, coastal areas could
still have strong winds.
"Overall, it bears watching to see how things shake out over the
next few days and how guidance handles the features in the wake
of yesterday`s storm. What there is high confidence in is that
there will be a cold airmass in place, sufficient for snow at least
at the storm`s onset if we get it. It will generally stay very
cold through next weekend into at least the beginning of next
week."

"We are monitoring the potential for a coastal storm
next weekend. While forecast confidence regarding specific
impacts remains low, there are concerns the storm may track
close enough to the region to bring at least some impacts to
portions of our forecast area.
"Deterministic and ensemble guidance continue to show the
potential of some sort of system developing off the Mid-Atlantic
coast next weekend. The latest 12z forecast guidance is still is all
over the place but there is fair agreement in some sort of
storm developing. The 0z ECMWF had been very bullish with this
storm giving the area a direct hit but the latest run has backed
off. In fact latest EC is pretty similar to GFS while 12z GEM
is very bullish. It should be noted there`s also a lot of spread
in the GFS ensemble members (GEFS).
"In terms of probabilities and potential impacts....the latest NBM
has 24 hour probabilities of snowfall > 4 inches around 20 to
25 percent across most of the area. In terms of timing, if this
storm affects us it could arrive as early as late day Saturday
and then last through Sunday. It should also be noted that this
storm may have significant winds with it such that even if the
center of the storm tracks well offshore, coastal areas could
still have strong winds.
"Overall, it bears watching to see how things shake out over the
next few days and how guidance handles the features in the wake
of yesterday`s storm. What there is high confidence in is that
there will be a cold airmass in place, sufficient for snow at least
at the storm`s onset if we get it. It will generally stay very
cold through next weekend into at least the beginning of next
week."

my brother lives in Rockland, sister in Raymond and niece and a nephew in Old Orchard Beach. While its beautiful, not a place I'd want to retire to, way too cold
I couldn’t stand the heat and humidity living in NJ and PA. The cold doesn’t bother me.
I get it. My brother moved there from Breckenridge, CO so he doesn't care but my sister weighs like 100 pounds and hates the cold but her grandkids live in old orchard beach so she couldn't resist.
I think it definitely helped moving here after a long time in other places, because it seems like a lot of locals psych themselves out about winter and it hits worse.
I mean, you will be at a barbecue in August and someone will start a discussion about how bad the upcoming winter will be. I’m thinking, maybe winter wouldn’t be so bad if you stopped obsessing over it and enjoyed the rest of the year!
