It’s not just State Farm. Almost all of them have raised rates or plan on doing it. Mine went up a couple of months ago.
I know your a mod and all that-
But sometimes you just don’t get it.

Insurance goes up. That’s life. But 27% in IL?
No hurricanes
Few long track tornadoes
New Madrid hasn’t been angry in some time
Low risk for wildfires

If I’m a homeowner in IL I’m pissed. And not just because of mayor Bettlejuice and the unruly Mississippi.

I’ve said this before, and by God there’s evidence to support this:

State Farm should be on the domestic terrorist list.

I have State Farm, in TN. I thought they were getting expensive. Had all state quote, they were $100 more per month. Called an independent agent, left a message. Got a text back telling me to go to a website and fill out a bunch of info, then he’d call me back after I did all his work. I just stayed with State Farm.

Upon further research other companies are increasing in Illinois as well. State Farm being the highest increase but not the only one. I have a friend on the Country Financial board who services Illinois Farm Bureau.

Oh
You deleted your knee-jerk post about Illinois not being mentioned.

It’s only the first 17ing word in the link description.

Your turn, oh great modular of board messaging.
I missed that. My apologies. Point still remains that they aren’t the only one going up.

I went to Universal Insurance from Geovera last week and dropped from $6700 to $3500 per year. Living in Florida within a half mile of the beach gets expensive quick.

It’s late. I hate State Farm, but didn’t want to taint the thread. All good bother…may be a little drunk

State Farm is the devil. They absolutely screwed over my uncle when a drunk driver hit his over the road truck in Montana (going the wrong way on the interstate in the middle of the night). The truck and trailer was totaled. The rear axles were bent beyond repair and those idiots sat on their hands for months and racked up towing yard costs and refused to pay for them when they finally paid about 75 percent of what it was worth after being threatened by his lawyer when they said they felt it could be repaired. They suck.

Progressive raised mine an average of 35-40% each of the last 3 years. I just shredded the bill when I saw it this year, went and found same coverage for less than half what they wanted to charge me.

Health insurance companies keep 48 cents on every dollar they get. That was a study I read a few years ago. Imagine if we’d had a way to cut out insurance and just have a processing fee how much cheaper healthcare would be.

Maybe State Farm is trying to protect itself from future “Firey, but mostly peaceful protests” that seem to happen in cities like Chicago.

I would like to see how much the big insurance companies spend on advertising vs how much they pay in claims. Kinda pisses you off when they raise your premiums due to "rising costs" but they run ads during every single break of every sports broadcast.
Years ago, when I had only heard of Shelter through word of mouth, I went with them because they were by far the cheapest. As soon as I started seeing their commercials, my rate started jumping.

Yeah. If you’re paying out $1.26 in claims for every $1 of premium income there are only 3 choices. Raise premiums, leave the state completely or go bankrupt. The huge costs of natural disasters over the last 2 decades have put a lot of pressure on the home insurance market. And it’s not gonna get better any time soon.

I had almost the exact same experience recently. I have never had a claim with state farm. However I checked the market out to see where we stood with everybody else. And I was highly disappointed that nobody could beat State Farm's rates on homeowners and auto. Also, the Agents that I had quoting acted like they really didn't want my business after they found out I was with State Farm currently. It was strange.

If we keep deporting "guest workers," costs to replace roofs will double or more. Insurance companies may respond with separate polices or deductibles just for roofs.
I did not inspect the immigration status of the crew that roofed my old house a couple of years ago. But I have my suspicions.

It’s not necessarily natural disasters, it’s the cost of replacement that’s killing them. Natural disasters are always there and happen but when you’re seeing those 20 percent increases every 16-18 months for materials for replacement it wrecks them.

Ha. State Farm won’t pay on roof claims. You better have video off the tree falling across the entirety of the roof and a certified time stamp on the video to have a chance.

I have USAA and my neighbor has State Farm, several years ago we have a hail storm, USAA overpaid my claim immediately, my neighbor fought with SF for months.

I hate State Farm. Tornado damage two years ago. I’ve had SF insurance since 1988. I had to threaten to sue. I got the state insurance commissioner involved. I finally left money on the table out of exasperation. I swore that I’d paid my last SF premium. I shopped around and finally thought that I’d found an independent agent who was at least competitive and by competitive I’m mean not double. When I went to swap over it was all a bait and switch. None of the quotes that I’d been originally given were good. Every single quote was considerably higher because I’d been quoted every discount with him knowing that I didn’t have an on-site fire department or a concrete dome covering my property or a commercial sprinkler system installed in a residential building or that discount was only available on the first Tuesday of every month and it was Wednesday. They’re all the same. Get this, we recently sold our house. Have SF homeowners, multiple auto, RV insurance, personal property insurance, and liability insurance. We sold some vehicles that I dropped the insurance on so I went by the office and told them that I’d be dropping the homeowners in a few weeks as well. My remaining policies will be cheaper overall if I continue to insure the home I just sold because I’ve got all these bundled policies that are no longer available so it looks like I’m going to keep insuring a house I no longer own at least in the short term.

USAA, Nationwide, and Farm Bureau pay without very little fuss. You get what you pay for. People gripe all the time about how much FB costs but when it comes to a claim they pay with very little hassle and you get a fair market value and sometimes in my opinion they over pay.

Somebody's gotta pay for them getting their arse handed to them by the California wildfires. Or maybe they had to pull out before that. Can't remember.

FWIW, my brother is an adjuster for Shelter in Starkville, and yes, they are a little higher in some cases, but he says they "pay out" well when you have a loss and don't BS you around.

Farm Bureau doubled my octogenarian Mother's homeowner's policy premium at her 2025 renewal. Literally doubled the premium. That's after taking away replacement cost coverage and inserting some sort of bull$h!+ wind/hail deductible.

I blame the residential roofing industry with its smarmy sales hounds.

Not knocking their quality at all. Just that they charged me more to make commercials.

Had FB for 25 years starting with first car.
Straight line winds and hail came through last year.
FB sent a guy out he took a picture of one shingle. Got the roof plus $750+
