I'm as big a UK fan as there is, and I voted no. I voted no because, IMHO, Cal refuses to recruit guys who are actually good at the game of basketball, and instead focuses upon bringing in guys who can jump out of the gym. That's all fine and well, but when you have multiple players on your team who have difficulty even dribbling a basketball, much less actually putting the ball in the hoop, then no, that type of player does not tend to win titles.

Now, that said I hope like hell he begins recruiting better basketball players because he CAN coach them up, we've all been witness to that.

If he defers to his staff more, or makes a couple of changes there, than yes. As long as his focus is on the June draft, no.

Good point but you ignored “shooters” that was mentioned. His best teams/chances had some of them. Monk and Herro on the last two elite 8 teams. IQ coming along but likely doesn’t have enough help this year.

I said after the Wisky game in 2015 that the NCAA will not allow Cal to win another title. The fix is in and the refs are the arm of enforcement of this double secret probation policy.

If I keep my blue goggles on, I’d say it’s possible he wins another, because 1) we are UK and it’s what we do, 2) Cal will bring in top three classes every year, and 3) college basketball overall is on a downward spiral for several years now and our odds are as good as anyone.

If I remove my blue goggles and predict without bias, I’d say no. This is Cal’s 30th year as a college coach. He has one championship and that was largely due to one player. He isn’t a brilliant bench coach IMO. His offensive philosophy is mind boggling. That’s why he usually gets knocked out by less talented teams in the NCAA tournament.

So hard to beat a good team 3x. Not to mention they were hot as hell in tourney. Destroyed UNC, beat us, lost to UVA in a fluke by 1 point.

Do not position that as some unforgiveable loss...that is crazy.

I just don’t see it. Cal has proven inflexible in his methodology and coach tactics. I hope to hell he has another in him but I feel like we are in a vacuum now of top rated teams going in every year that can’t put it all together to make a run.

82-80 at their place, 80-53 in rupp. Managed a whopping 60 in regulation when it mattered. I don’t care how they played against Virginia, we should have taken care of them in the E8 and didn’t. You can characterize it any way you want but so will I.

I don't feel like he was that way before he came here, but something changed. What changed? It wasn't the landscape, because he's proven since then that he is very slow to adapt. Years ago I read something to the effect that it had to do with his own experience coaching in the NBA and a desire to prove that he was still relevant to the league.

I voted no because of his refusal to mix up defenses when necessary, and change the offense to better utilize specific skill sets the players may have. Running the weave on top was used in the 60’s. Also not recruiting BASKETBALL players instead runners and leaders.

Before 2016 I would have said he would win a couple more, but now I am leaning towards no more. We have had 2 straight years with extremely favorable paths to a title and we have come up short. Then we have possibly the worst year in college basketball in a long time and we just don't likely have the right mix of players to do it this year either.

There are a number of things working against him. The recruiting landscape has changed, he can't get the right mix of players, and he refuses to change the way we play. When you don't have an Anthony Davis in the paint to rebound, block shots, and score, the way he wants us to play doesn't work very well. Plus we can't get the right players to comeback very often.

We will still win a lot of games with superior talent but the youth will continue to struggle at key times in the tournament. It also doesn't help that most refs seem to hate him. I really wouldn't be surprised if he gets fed up with it and hangs it up in a year or two.

The man won more games than any coach in the last ten years, and you don’t think he cares about winning? What about the last game we played? Think he cared more about winning that game or getting Whitney drafted?

He focuses on his kids succeeding. That mean numerous things. It means we win ball games. It means his kids reach their dreams. It means we are always in the spotlight. It means we get great recruiting classes. It means we hangs banners. I know this may be difficult to comprehend, being numerous things to process, but having many different goals is a reality for many people. Cal being one of them. Sorry you can’t share in joy he brings most fans and players/families of the program.

A regular season November game is not anywhere near the bright lights the NCAAT is.

Also, Maxey isn't the only guy on the team, but, as important as he is, he only seems to rise up every other game or so.

The NCAAT is a different animal and tougher players than Maxey have choked.

Then again, Knight, Aaron, AD, MKG and Teague blossomed in the tournament, so it can happen. I'm just going with what we have seen the last 4 years.

Gotta have veterans. Getting Quickly back is really important, but if he keeps hitting his shots and putting showing he can play at the next level, he's gone.
Heck, we have seen guys like Brooks leave after a mediocre season too, so I fear what happens if this team makes any kind of run in the ncaat.

I voted no. Not because “Cal only cares about the draft” or “Cal is not a good game coach”. I voted no because it’s extremely hard to win a National Championship, and for whatever reason, Cal is not getting the elite of the elite recruits anymore. Also, our 2nd and 3rd tier guys still leave early. The bad part about it is, all of those things could go well. We could get the top recruit and have some returning players and still lose. It’s the hardest championship to win in any sport imo. If we are voting on odds, then odds are he doesn’t win another one. He’s still a HoF, great coach.
