The script always gets flipped.

Before 2012 it was well you can't win with freshman.

Now the script is well you can't win with all freshman lol.

We got Quickley, EJ, Richards, Sestina...........I mean while we are young every year, we don't run out all freshman teams so I'm unsure how that argument is really relevant as to why Cal wouldn't win another title.

Do we not have experience this season? Did we not have Richards, PJ and Travis last season? I mean the majority of the 2012 title was freshman and sophomores.

I mean most years we had SOME guys return.

Stop...senseless.

So hard to beat a good team 3x. Not to mention they were hot as hell in tourney. Destroyed UNC, beat us, lost to UVA in a fluke by 1 point.

Do not position that as some unforgiveable loss...that is crazy.
Of late, I don't generally agree with your takes, but I do on this one. I'll go a step further and say that if Okeke hadn't gotten hurt, Auburn very well may have won the whole thing, last year. They got hot at just the right time.

Serious question. If he doesn't care about winning and only getting the players drafted, what was he so pissed about that he got 2 T's and booted? It couldn't have been anything about the NBA? Could it have been that he wanted to win the game? Nah, he doesn't care about that, I mean it is only his job. Carry on with touting whatever you are touting. BTW, just Reynolds wrap, nothing fancy
If he was that damn concerned about winning the game, why didn't he do the things necessary to make it happen? BTW, getting yourself ejected says more about you than it does the players. Many here (and not just on here) Cal's in-game decisions as being centered around something other than winning the game. If you don't see the same thing, that's on you.

As long as those electrons are dating around up there, the tin foil is working.

should have already had two more 2010, and 2015, and what sucks more is Duke won championships both those years, even though we had far superior teams, I hope he wins another, but I'm voting no for the moment.
Cal missed on "most needed" recruit for 2010...Jodie Meeks.

Still believe Cal must have the "best of the best " to win it all because of coaching philosophy . He had it in 2015 and still didn't win it.

I said after the Wisky game in 2015 that the NCAA will not allow Cal to win another title. The fix is in and the refs are the arm of enforcement of this double secret probation policy.

Think that game was more about Vegas than anti-Cal, not that the NCAA was upset over a UK loss.

Still believe Cal must have the "best if the best " to win it all because if coaching philosophy . He had it in 2015 and still didn't win it.

Having the most talent gives you the best possible chance at winning the entire thing.

But that philosophy applies to all coaches tho.

I get what you are saying but this is the same guy that took a Umass team to a final four. He's been to final fours at UK with talent that definitely wasn't the best of the best.

I don't feel like he was that way before he came here, but something changed. What changed? It wasn't the landscape, because he's proven since then that he is very slow to adapt. Years ago I read something to the effect that it had to do with his own experience coaching in the NBA and a desire to prove that he was still relevant to the league.

in my opinion he does not put UK first. Any coach at UK should do that. Don’t care who the coach is. Would any other coach do that here? I don’t think so.

There is more than one way to skin a cat, but with the system Cal is running here, he has to get the best recruits available to have a legit shot.

What he did in 96 and 2008 was pretty amazing, but he had Camby + a bunch of veteran players in 96 and in 2008, he had a future NBA all star (Rose) and another group of veterans.

Trying to win this thing with lower tiered freshmen isn’t going to work.

Maybe he can get this team to win a title. The pieces are there and cbb is as down as you're ever going to see it, but this team has more veterans than usual. In a typical year, this team would top out in the sweet 16.

I'm not knocking Cal here. Winning is freaking hard and we know we have to overcome bad officiating too often, but it has been proven that winning it all is damn near impossible when the guys doing all the lifting are freshmen.

I'm still stunned that last years duke team didn't even make the FF. Heck, they should have been ousted in the round of 32 and the sweet 16.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Tom Izzo has only won it once. I believe Bill Self has only won it once as well. Rick Pitino*, Jim Boeheim, Denny Crum, Lute Olsen all one championship. Point is I think it’s harder to win it all then we’d like to believe sometimes. We’re Kentucky, and obviously we have a better history and tradition than all of the schools those above coached at so naturally our expectations are different, but history doesn’t really mean anything in a lose and you’re out tournament. Truth is there has only been a few years under the Calipari era where we just plain were not able to at least compete with the best come tournament time. Maybe I’m overly optimistic, but I do think Calipari wins another. Mostly because I think he is a better coach than those listed above, and we are a better program.

Yeah that team was extremely close to losing that second round game to UCF.

I do agree tho. I mean you either need a super elite recruiting class or u need some pieces to carry over from the previous years. Even better when you get both.

Saying that, while we haven't grabbed those Anthony Davis type players lately, if Cal is around another 10 years I have a hard time thinking that at some point he won't again. The man is an elite recruiter.

Maybe we won't ever see a team like 2012 or 2015..........but I'm willing to bet that some point we have a dominant team again.

If he defers to his staff more, or makes a couple of changes there, than yes. As long as his focus is on the June draft, no.

You complain about Cal all the time. I guess you want to go back to the 11 seasons before Cal came to UK.

Calipari wraps up his first decade with four trips to the Final Four, seven Elite Eight appearances, and one national championship. During his tenure as UK’s coach, he was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame, and Calipari confirmed that he had signed what amounts to a lifetime contract at Kentucky.
Not a bad run, so far, for a coach who took over a program that missed the NCAA Tournament the previous season, won zero tournament games the season before that, and hadn’t advanced to a Final Four in the 11 seasons prior to his arrival.

I guess you just want to go back to the 11 seasons prior to Cal coming to UK.
How soon we forget.

I'm not sure we will see any super teams once the new rules go into place in 2021.

I say the same thing in my complaint, all the time, because for every person who agrees, someone disagrees. I don't think players are comfortable playing for Cal, it may be a generational thing. Did you not see how relaxed they were when he left? Never mind the fact that KP put them in a zone, they were relaxed. I think it's being used against him on the recruiting trail. The elite players know they're going to the NBA, regardless of which program they play for. If you're looking for more playing time, and to not get yanked for every mistake, well.....? Again, he represents the program well.

Why does he yank players if he doesn’t care about winning?

i will say this again
no poll is legit if you can not see the names of the people that vote
all polls that hides the voters names is just opening the flood gates for trolls from rival fanbases (and a few that post here incognito)

This is something that the haters say that don’t gave a legit argument. Saying Cal focuses on the draft is silly. The man won more games than any coach in the last ten years, and you don’t think he cares about winning? What about the last game we played? Think he cared more about winning that game or getting Whitney drafted?

He focuses on his kids succeeding. That mean numerous things. It means we win ball games. It means his kids reach their dreams. It means we are always in the spotlight. It means we get great recruiting classes. It means we hangs banners. I know this may be difficult to comprehend, being numerous things to process, but having many different goals is a reality for many people. Cal being one of them. Sorry you can’t share in joy he brings most fans and players/families of the program.

Move along simpleton.
It's sad that this has to be repeated over and over again.

The randomness of this tourney anymore says "why not",I would have bet my life that last year with all the upsets, was our time..Things just didn't fall our way.and I wouldn't expect this team to do it,but who knows

We can flip that easily, and talk about all the times that he played certain players in critical moments when it was clear to anyone that more than the current game was on the coach's mind. Harrison Twins ring a bell? But this is what Pumpers do. Simpletons & Pumpers. :joy:

Not sure what game(s) you are referring to, but some have a distorted memory of Wisconsin in 2015. Harrison twins combined for 25 points, 9-19 FG, 5rb, 4ast, 1 TO in that game. Booker couldn't guard a loose shoe on the ground at the time.

UConn the year before, the twins were awful, but we had no bench.

Either the Twins choked at the end of the Wisconsin game, or Cal went to stall ball. Maybe both?

Definitely wasn't anyone's best game. So you think Cal should have pulled the Twins and put in two freshman guards for the last 2 minutes + of game?

If I had to point at one thing in that game it was pressure on everyone. It didn't help that our consensus 1st Team AA might as well have never got off the team plane.

I swear people want to throw out every single excuse possible for that game.

Except for the actual reason which is Wisconsin was a damn good team that season as well.
Wisconsin was a great team. I won't deny that. But I saw Cal use the same tactics that we've been seeing him use in other games (that they should have won). He was more worried about the futures of those twins than he was playing one Tyler Ulis (.429 3pt%). Cal has been so invested in the numbers of stars beside a player's names and getting them into the league after one year. I think he will adapt, Richards has been helping with that.

See I look at that game and think to myself he was doing the same thing that he did in the previous 38 that all resulted in wins.

We will never know what Cal is thinking but I'm willing to bet he went with that lineup and stayed with it because he thought that was our best shot at winning.

I just think that any coach in that situation does the same thing. Most will ride with the guys that have gotten you there.

Plus the whole consumed with getting guys to the NBA after one year argument doesn't really fly in that game.......considering he stuck with the twins (2 year guys) over Ulis and Booker (1 year guys).
