Years back, I remember reading some of our very own piratehoops board members sharing their personal experiences from 9/11/2001. It was powerful. For someone like me that was college aged and 4 hours away, the attacks were experienced more through a tv set than first or second hand knowledge.

if any board members have the time and emotional fortitude to share those experiences again, I’m sure I’m not the only one who would appreciate the reading and adding to my “never forget” patriotism.

Nittany Pirate,

Still difficult to discuss.. I worked in Building 1, 59th Street Floor, and had left working in Manhattan a couple years after the 1994 garage level attack, transitioning into the Tech field for Channel Security and Private IP out of Basking Ridge NJ. I frequently visited former co workers, and clients at WTC 1, 4, 5, and 7 post my career change.

I was last in building 1 on September 10th 2001 with a CTO friend and his peers, discussing their IT needs on a 70th level floor. That friend had home issues on the morning of the 11th, and didn't get near the office until after Building 1 was hit, and before Building 2 was hit. He was thankfully told not to enter, and wait for clearance that of course never came, except for the brave first responders sent in after Building 2 was hit.

His peers were all in the office, and told to stay put. They chose to not listen and take the stairs down.

My former employers staff on floor 1 59th floor, which was well under the plane level, all evacuated safely with the exception of one who was in a meeting on a 90th level floor.

May God continue to bless his soul.

Same as SHU Advisory. Difficult and it took me 15 years to be able to go anywhere near Ground Zero.

Left for a meeting in San Juan on Monday and remembered making a comment that Newark Airport security was a cluster.

Was on a golf course in Puerto Rico and company rep came on to course and told us what happened. The company I worked for was one of the major medical device suppliers and within hours we were patched into NYPD with two other companies assessing what they might need…burn dressings, trauma supplies, etc. and coordinating a convoy into NYC hospitals. Someone on the call asked if we could provide 50,000 body bags (which was 2x the number of people that worked/visited each tower)….ten seconds of dead silence as the potential gravity hit everyone. I felt helpless. Fortunately as it turned out the need for supplies wasn’t that great, as
people who survived were able to escape without serious injuries.

It took us until Saturday to be able to get a flight. Flew to Ft. Lauderdale, rented a car and drove straight through with my wife. Longest six days away from our kids that seemed like six months.

Our VP of HR’s son worked for Cantor Fitzgerald. Last message his father got that morning was that he was looking forward to family vacation that weekend. He was a great kid. Played basketball at North Hunterdon and the Vermont in college.

Lost a family member…also Cantor Fitzgerald. Twenty years later his daughter was chosen to sing the opening day National Anthem that was simulcasted to all NFL stadiums along with companion video that Steve Buscemi narrated. Very emotional day for her.

So sorry you both had to experience such tragedy but thankful so many such as yourselves were spared. Thanks for taking the time and energy to share your stories. May we never forget.
God bless.
