Schiano has been & is limited. A mediocre coach at best. He had a team full of NFL'ers, & good ones, for a few years & could never win a conference championship.
With RUs record of putting DBs into the NFL I think this would be an appealing place for portal transfers. Question is how, without a shitload of money, that can be extended to other positions.
And with NIL If it’s such a big deal, if I was schiano I’d contribute whatever it took to get a stud QB. Even if it was 2 million. With a legit QB he’d already have an extension worth another 20-25 million. That would be 2 million well spent. Lol

Their OCs or HCs have a track record of finding and developing other productive qbs though, also factual.
Yes. If we keep Joe H plus Greg we will "always" get good defensive transfers, especially in the back four. The track record of putting d backs in the league is a great selling point. The problem for me is we need a talent infusion on offense now - and can Kirk make that happen? He is certainly paid like a guy who can, but we shall see. Overall it depends what the goal is here. If it's 6, 7 wins and the pinstripe etc Schiano will get us there no problem. And after Ash maybe we should all be happy. If it's higher I'm not sure we can get an offense in here to make that happen.

He's exactly the type of coach who you want your child to play for (if he's a fringe 3 star), or if he wants to stay home
But if you're a 4/5 star and you can play for Kirby / Saban, it's a no brainer
You don’t know that until you have a son, who is star of his high school team and highly recruited . Maybe the kid is a star receiver . You can’t just make the blanket statement that I want my nonexistent all- state football player of “ I want my kid to play for Greg”

For the record, I think mediocrity is an acceptable and expected temporary result when attempting to go from terrible to good.
I don't get what you mean by we take zero chances? Should he be throwing Hail Mary's every down? Running a double reverse flea flicker 3 or 4 times a game?
Football is a team sport which requires practice and drilling to learn plays and execute them. A coach finds the strength of the team and practice those plays with takes advantage of those strengths. Spending time in practice on low percentage plays takes away time from practicing your strengths. And this year the team won 6 and wasn't blown out by anybody and in most games in the game in the 3rd and 4th Qs.

What do you mean by open the offense a little? More passes, deeper passes? If you play not to lose and you succeed you win. So what do you mean by playing not to lose? Everybody plays not to lose.
I think the offense needs to play like they got nothing to loose , ( like there playing with house money ) throw everything at them in the playbook but the kitchen sink , spread the game out more, if know one is open down field throw keep throwing dump off passes to a tight end or running back, high tempo , and if the QB is not moving the offense next man up , the Ground & Pound playbook GS uses needs to be put in a Time Capsule and buried.
Schiano's offense makes Rush Limbaugh look like Rashida Tlaib
It means they don't do anything outside of their vanilla game plan to win the game against superior competition
That playbook won 6 and got us to a legit bowl for the first time in years and produced the top rusher in the B1G, we were in every game. The team did not practice spreading the game out and we relied on ground and pound because that “is who we are” as Schiano stated. If you move the team away to a radically different approach late in the season you will get more mistakes. Mistakes lead to turnovers and turnovers lead to blowouts. With blowouts you have no chance.
Also if you listened to Schianos press conference after Iowa, Schiano stated that the offense that we run today may not be the offense of the future.
Also our passing game is one of the worst in the country, it would seem insane relying on the passing game against 2 of the best defenses in the county

Agaisnt OSU we tried a pop pass to KW in the red zone, definitely not vanilla, against Michigan we tried a throw back WR screen which we haven’t seen. Those plays didn’t work out very well.
This is mathematically incorrect… Allow me to explain. There are 41 post season bowl games played between 82 teams with only 133 D1 programs in the country. Statistically speaking every team in the country has a 61.65% chance of making a bowl game based on strictly the math.
So no, when over 61% of ALL D1 programs go to Bowl games and we have benefitted from the easiest schedule we will ever see in this conference (I know our fans don’t like to admit it but we’ve beat 2 big ten teams who fired their coach the previous week and Indiana, with the Michigan state win coming as a result of pure and total luck, there’s no other way to spin it).
Next year’s schedule is a bear, and I gotta be honest I’m so sick of excuses by Greg. I’m so tired of his excuses. It’s excuse after excuse after excuses never taking the blame, spending $2.8 MILLION on OC’s this year.
At some point folks have to stop comparing him to Ash as well. Ash was the worst coach in program history, great he’s better than that guy!

A defense minded coach who will generally run a conservative offense in hopes of limiting mistakes and relying on his defense to carry the day

This year he delivered results. 6 wins and a bowl game. He did what he needed to do.

Your boyfriend can’t coach offense Al. He’s rebuilt the defense admirably, he’s done his job and taken the team out of the abyss. Now it’s time to take us to the next level. Greg is not capable of this offensively, we MUST move on. now the pressure’s on to continue the bowl stretch. If we wanna continue it the offense had better get better fast. And I’m sorry to break this to you Al, but freshman ain’t gonna be the ones to do it
Find another coach in the country who uses the phrase ‘We’re not there yet’…. You won’t, and it’s every other sentence that comes out of Greg’s mouth. Excuse excuse excuse blames everyone else refuses to accept responsibility or acknowledge the offense sucks. Refuses to bring in a QB transfer, lowers our expectations so much that after a game with 10 completions for 130 yds 0 tds and 2 turnovers we have fans saying ‘the qb played well!’

IMHO, you can’t play like you got nothing to lose for 60 min. That will guarantee a beat down by a good team. You might score more points but you will give up a lot more. Playing ball control and keeping the game close is the right strategy. However, I agree that they need to take chances at opportunistic times. Keep in mind that the 3 pick 6s could be their idea of “opening up” the O. I’m certain the 3 pick 6s also probably made them more conservative.
Saying we are not there yet is an admission that the team isn’t good enough and he explained that the coaches have to do a better job. That’s taking the blame and not an excuse.

I guess almost every coach and QB in the BIG suck because they’re all playing conservative Football. It’s always been that way but even OSU this year did not light it up against us and played it tight to the vest. Defenses playing 4-2-5 takes away the high flying passing games. We are a Defensive conference and that is why a program like Iowa has been able to succeed for so long. It’s boring but they win. We’re right on their heels.
Our fans all love Colorado and TCU. Teams built on straw. Schiano made us a prennial bowl team and his players finished 8-5 in 2014 our first year in the BIG. No matter how much the usual suspects hate him, you can’t take away his success.

I’m looking for a somewhat competent offense that shows a little bit of creativity, and at the very least, appears to have evolved into 21st century football with some creative schemes, wrinkles and the occasional long pass / reverse / new twist
I’m not happy with what we have bc I truly believe the potential for this program, though not at a bama type level, can reach Wiscy / Iowa / Sparty heights and I don’t see it happening with Greg at the helm
