Honestly as someone who watches European football (soccer) I don’t mind secondary tournaments like NIT. NIT was a great feeling in 2024 and I felt the competition and hype of Indiana state and beating them was amazing and legit feeling.

in European football there are other cups below the champions league ( tournement for best club in Europe) and winning country’s league title.

Tbh considering how ncaa landscape looks, these tournaments like NIT or the crown can have a bit more value, though I wish it was just NIT and ncaa tournament should always be the goal, but it’s honestly at a point smal schools will have a harder time reaching the NCAA tournament with how things have gone.

SPK. So is the fine coming from Pirate Blue???? Not cool to upset your primary TV medium, even though this tourney is a farce compared to the history of the nit.

Guess the players said no, unlike what we heard from Carino. All eyes now on Hines and Bud.

WTF? Now they have to pay a fine.

But fans should just donate, donate, donate.
Yeah, unacceptable IMO. You’re going to play in a Tournament where players can earn NIL. This only makes sense if either Shaheen and/or players are essentially wanting to focus on their next moves. It’s definitely a BS move.

So the NIT is out? I thought it was now owned by the NCAA? And here we gave St. John's (and wasn't it a few others too?) grief for not participating in post season. Disappointing.

No postseason. If we wanted to continue to play we would have played in Crown. Other teams opted out of Crown last year.

Great call. Surprised the players wouldn’t want to try to earn more money, but relieved we can put this season to bed and look toward the future.

I respect not playing. However I didn’t know it comes with a fine. Crying poverty and paying an unnecessary fine doesn’t jive.

It does jive if players not interested. It’s their bodies on the line. Plus remember it doesn’t start until April, so very valuable portal time.

It is a farce and the fine is probably not that much, just seems weird for the players to decline.

Seems like players now a day want to play least games possible while making as much money as possible. A bit disappointing but understandable. The game has changed. Oh well. Let’s see what our roster will look like for next season.

I loved the last run in the NIT. Wish I could watch us play more but dont like the crown tourney and dont care that we declined.

I didnt watch Selection Sunday, I guess for the first time ever.

I stopped watching college fb about 15-20 yrs ago, maybe longer. Dont remember when I stopped and dont miss it at all.

I get the feeling I may be watching more MLB AND THE WBC, as of now am losing interest in the NCAAs too (not cause we are not in, but cause of the new rules of the game and what I think their intent is). Will watch our teams, not sure most if the rest will interest me much. I get the hint.

Kick some *** SJ, UCONN, NOVA. That is the best way to shove this new college hoops world up where it belongs.

Seems like you can opt out if you say you don’t have enough players.

Still weird. Crappy, non-sensical tournament but sends the message they don’t care.
Well probably that they care about something else more. Show me the money.

I have no problem with us declining. But if you were critical of other bubble teams that declined the NIT two years ago when we decided to play, I'm sure this isn't something you are a fan of.
