Based on what I've seen so far this year, Fisher would be option 7 or 8 on my list to draw up a final play.

Maybe but only Williams and Clark were in real trouble. There were enough guys NOT in serious trouble to press sooner. We were out rebounded by 14 and still kept it close. I know they had a tremendous free throw advantage but if we made a few more of the ones we had it would have been different. Only 12 of 18 for 67%. While at the previous game we hit for 83%.
C’mon, Clark and Williams were in foul trouble. Not going to win without Clark if he fouls out. And Williams is our best wing defender.

So we have others that could have stepped in if we pressed a few minutes sooner! This team is deep with players that can do it.

Do you really want to use excessive pressure with the way the whistles were being blown? Wasn't 38 foul shots by the opposition enough?

You have to adapt to the way the game is being called and I think we all saw enough of the conga line to the charity stripe by USC.

Well I think you can press and not commit fouls! That is the point of the press. Pressure the opponent to make mistakes, errant passes, play faster than they want to etc. The idea is to NOT foul! If you are fouling then you are not playing good "D".

Sha’s done well this year. I don’t see how you can think otherwise. I get from a fan standpoint the instinct is to be reactionary and go to extremes. You have to be happy after the last two days. One can think Sha is doing a good job this year, that he was awful last year, and while he obviously isn’t in the same universe as the best coaches in our league, he certainly doesn’t look like a Kim English either.
Very happy the entire way so far and Sha can't be another Brian Dabol type coach. Last year had to be a football Giants type seasson where the roster construction and roster management was the main cause. BTW, you were spot on about WSU as a team.

There were a number of called fouls that did not appear to be fouls.

Sha is the first real Pirate since Richie to be our coach. His committment breathed new life into the program after the criminal post PJ programacide. And he was a great player, obviously, and his growth as a young man was great to see. He was the guy I wanted to succeed KW. And after last season, wtf happened.

And now we play Shaheen level intensity, have some depth and have a new roster (that miraculously arrived without the guidance of a GM) that is as tough and together as I could hope.

Bilas gave us so many complinents on our offense, it was like he was Sha's press sec'y. And maybe it is time to revise upward my BE record prediction of 10-10

Relax. 2 pt loss. Are refs done reviewing calls under 1 min?

Apparently they changed the rule this year and made it require a coach’s challenge
There are certain calls that are reviewable and do not require a coach's challenge. Out of bounds/possession calls fall under the challenge rule.

There is a link on page 1 of this thread with the parameters of the new challenge rule.

That play should not have required a challenge.

How refreshing, talking about maybe being in the NCAAT conversation. Long way to go, obviously.

Just have to avoid the torpedoes against Central Connecticut State at Walsh on Dec 3rd and then Rutgers at The Rock on December 13th.

Even if we lose at Kansas State, finishing 9-2 without any bad losses and a neutral site win over NC State will give us a respectable non-conference resume. Then you try to get to 11-9 in the BE.

A real nice surprise to even be thinking about this.

This is why I hate playing RU... Another year this game is considered a "torpedo" for us.

I'm not even sure how it's still a rivalry -- 1) we are not in the same conference; 2) we rarely if ever recruit the same players; 3) none of the players grew up with each other in NJ/NY anymore.

It's just a performative rivalry at this point.

It’s okay….

Same as games like Creighton-Nebraska, Marquette-Wisconsin, Providence-URI, Georgetown-Maryland, the Big Five games, etc.

It‘s not particularly fun, but it’s all part of the game.

Walking out of the rac in a shu sweatshirt after we beat them is tons of fun!

a pal of mine, ru guy, gave me his tickets to the sh game a few times. We were winning each game. a real JO who didnt know hoop sat behind us. each year, he left early and as he walked past my son and i, he said to his son, "at least we have our own arena" lmao

You or I might think that, but they reason this change was enacted was to stop the constant trips to the monitor near the end of games. Many here have criticized the way the flow of games was affected by those frequent delays.

I, frankly, hope the rule is modified next year to be more like the NFL rule where challenges go away in the final two minutes of the game and reviews are initiated by the officials.

The issue there is it goes completely against what this rule change is trying to accomplish.

deciding who the ball really hit last should not be time consuming

I don't disagree in general but often those calls are more complicated and deceptive depending on the camera angle.

The play in our game should have been a very quick look but I've seen plenty of others where it's not that simple.

My view is the idea behind having video review is to get calls correct. I'm ok with it taking a few moments to accomplish that.

It's a big draw for both teams, especially for SHU in an arena. If we are going to continue to schedule cupcakes then we should have this game on the schedule even if it's a home game every two years. Otherwise, we may not have a marquee out of conference home game on the schedule some years.

how many cameras do they have? show all the angles. if they cant decide, call stands. hard to figure an out of bounds call is hard to decide. i watch tons of baseball and the challenges dont bother me at all.

Every opposing coach has the same comments on this team..Wash st coach comments.

"Their physicality was impressive and it took us six to eight minutes to adjust to it. I think we had nine turnovers in the first 10 minutes."

In all honesty when was the last time Rutgers was a "marquee" opponent? I can probably count on 1 hand (probably don't need a full hand) since the formation of the new BE that RU was considered a real "marquee" opponent.

EDIT: Answered my own question... They've been over .500 only 4 times since the new BE and only 1 season they achieved 20 wins.

Rutgers is NOT a marquee opponent. We can just schedule any random low achieving high major conference opponent at that point.

Especially one looking right at the play from 5-7 feet away on the baseline with a perfect angle.
Because the 3 refs all are looking at different things from different pov. In the case of the baseline ref he only saw one pov and the usc player screened him. This is why last min of reg reviews were actually a good thing not left in hands of gimmick challenge system

@Halldan what was the story with Ausar’s recruitment? How much of a “done deal” was it and is there bad blood with the staff and him now?

The above schools recruited him as he was a hot commodity coming from Utah . Seton Hall was a finalist but money was an issue at the time of his commitment to USC in April. Moving forward money won't be as bad of a problem, but the FB schools and some schools in the Big East still have a leg up on us.
