i can almost guarantee SHU will never sign another coach who has been to an elite 8.
The irony is that this is the counter argument to leave. You're giving an example of a coach that had/has 5X the resources of his competition. Seton Hall isn't Gonzaga in this example - it's Pepperdine/USF/San Diego/etc.All you need to compare is Gonzaga. Who remembers the head coaches' name who led them to the Elite Eight in 1998-9? Dan Monson leaves Gonzaga for the Big Ten after going 52-17 22-6 in conference at Gonzaga in two seasons. In eight seasons at Minnesota he made one NCAA and went 118-106 and 44-68 in conference. He then spends 18 season's at Long Beach state and gets 2 NCAA bids. He NEVER won another NCAA game after leaving Gonzaga.
How let's look at his replacement when he left Gonzaga, Mark Few. Few was an assistant from 1989 to 1999. He wasn't an alumna but his dedication to the school was obvious. I don't need to talk about his record, but do you think Monson made the right choice leaving, or if Few did remaining at the small school and not jumping to a P5 chasing $$.

Success? Early ousting in NCAA. Let look at it honestly he was on the outs in MD and he knew it. The fans were starting to Chirp.Wow revisionist post of the millennium. You would constantly post Willard wouldn’t get through his first contract because he would be FIRED. You made silly bets with several posters and than you disappeared when he had success

Funny but you doubt Hobbs’s statement yet you are sure of your opinion based on what 1st hand knowledge? You must be some omnipotent being. Is Hobbs really someone to hang your hat on for a key citation?
I am sure Amaker only regret is that he did this in a time in which head coach valuation and compensation was not yet overwhelmingly inflated.
Once again, over your head. It’s analogy for resources relative to your peers. Gonzaga gave Mark Few *more* resources than anyone in his conference. Seton Hall gives Sha *less* resources than anyone in the conference.Seton Hall is Pepperdine or San Francisco? LOL
Willard left Seton Hall for the promise of resources at Maryland.
He left Maryland because of lack of basketball commitment and a great job being his for the taking - and he did not have to fight football for commitment of resources.
Again you just change the point you said he would be fired before his first contract and he wasn’t and made the S16Success? Early ousting in NCAA. Let look at it honestly he was on the outs in MD and he knew it. The fans were starting to Chirp.

Nah I think I'll stay. WTF are you? Do you ever post besides this post? He snuck by a 12 seed on a bad call. He knew he was losing his top players and would be another down year this year and he'd be gone. WAS NOT the sentiment of alum. My brother is an alum and confirmed they couldn't stand him. Stop sniffing his panties...he is a snake.Again you just change the point you said he would be fired before his first contract and he wasn’t and made the S16
They were chirping the season before and not last year they wanted to keep him
oh btw the Maryland alums I work with are chirping NOW! All college fans chirp
Again just go away
I did not mention Mark Few. Howevwr, not sure the only reason Few had success was more resources - which you suggest is the only reason. He is a veey good coach, went international with his recruiting at first and had succes in the tournament, developing a national schedule with enough marquee games to get media attention and a huge gap between his program and the rest of his conference so he gets set up for tourney success each year.Once again, over your head. It’s analogy for resources relative to your peers. Gonzaga gave Mark Few *more* resources than anyone in his conference. Seton Hall gives Sha *less* resources than anyone in the conference.
If you want to make the argument Sha should stay at Seton Hall - that’s great and I’m here for it, but to use mark few as an example is silly because it’s the opposite situation.
If the thought is he may leave due to lack of resources, bringing up a person who found tremendous success due to having exponentially more resources than his peers is silly.
That the Zags were best in conference means little re their status as a basketball power.Once again, over your head. It’s analogy for resources relative to your peers. I am surprised that Amaker has not gotten another shot at a P5 school head coaching position. 7 Ivy league championships is probably more than mediocrity and with 2 NCAA wins at Harvard I thought he might get offers and strike while the iron was hot at those times. Is Hobbs really someone to hang your hat on for a key citation?
I am sure Amaker only regret is that he did this in a time in which head coach valuation and compensation was not yet overwhelmingly inflated. You don't think K told him this is the move to do. Strike when the iron is hot. Michigan a top 3 public school at the time. He even did sub par out of the gate and the admin gave him an extension. He doubled his shu deal and got a hair under 1m to be cast aside. On 6 seasons he showed well he still could not run a program well or was really proficient at in game coaching. He did win an NIT in his third year when he has his best Big Ten.conf finish but then was a tough decline the rest of his tenure. But hey he got a soft landing at Harvard where for the most part outside of Jeremy Lin he has settled in mediocrity and has accomplished bids in down Ivy years and some NIT one and dones. I have no doubt he has no regret in his actions.
Sha is going to need a Cignetti type season that he had last year at IU at least to get a 10 year guaranteed deal here as someone posted. Would UNC or Kansas really come after Sha? Bobby Hurley and Tang are on the hot seat they might come after him.Sha has done a phenomenal job this year after failing last year.
Does this mean he should get a raise after this year after after not getting a pay cut after last year?
I say he is more than fairly paid, actually over paid but all minor league coaches are.
But what do you do if someone comes after him after this season?
OK let's look at context to all of this for his harvard era. Amaker has never run the table in an ivy league regular season. He has finished first in standings numerous times but has only had 1 one-loss regular season...winning titles with 2 3 and 4 regular season losses shows a down league and not a dominating campaignTommy Amaker's record at Harvard is exceptional, making him the winningest coach in program history with a tenure from 2007-2025, achieving roughly 310 wins and 200 losses, securing seven Ivy League titles, leading the Crimson to four NCAA Tournament appearances (including two wins), and bringing them to unprecedented national recognition, highlights this Harvard Crimson article from March 30, 2025 and his profile on the Harvard Athletics website state, though exact numbers vary slightly by the date of publication.
Do you mean Kansas State? No. Never. Can you imagine a Shaheen press conference in Kansas?Sha is going to need a Cignetti type season that he had last year at IU at least to get a 10 year guaranteed deal here as someone posted. Well there is talk of Self retiring. And Tang is might br on the hot seat. A Hurley type guy press conference there would not go over well either.Do you mean Kansas State? No. Never. Can you imagine a Shaheen press conference in Kansas?
If we're successful, this will always be in play. There comes a point where Shaheen is capped here and the decision comes down to chase the money or "settle" for less to stay here.Still goes back to the NIL problem. Seton Hall struggles there and didn't fix anything. The team is more competitive this year because of the revenue sharing. If they constantly have to win salary battles to retain the coach, guess where that money drains from.
Right. It's simply what Seton Hall is in the larger world of big time college sports. These P4 football schools have enough NIL to throw around to double Sha's salary and still fund a roster if they wanted to without whatever % of the revenue sharing they receive for basketball. If someone wants Sha to be their HC at one of those programs we won't be able to match it.If we're successful, this will always be in play. Enough to compete in Conference and to never have a replay of last year.Right. It's simply what Seton Hall is in the larger world of big time college sports. And now with the revenue sharing so critical to SHU's ability to fund a roster - which it looks like we finally got right with ~80%+ of it funded by the RS - how much of it do we want to pay the coach over what Sha is already pulling in?
Lets see Sha get to an NCAA Tournament before we worry about P4 schools offering riches. There's a long way to go this season.Sha is going to need a Cignetti type season that he had last year at IU at least to get a 10 year guaranteed deal here as someone posted. Sha did get to the ncaa tournamentLet's see Sha get to a NCAA Tourney first.

John's not a bad guy.I’d get that if it weren’t putting money in Rothstein’s pockets.
Who is running the site now???John's not a bad guy.
When I was running the site I used to email him during the preseason to do an interview. He was always busy as hell but never said no. Instead he would just say when.
My connection with him went all the way back to the Gonzo days when as a young guy he went to all the home games. There I met him and we became friends.
