Related: I’m an 80s kid. Trading cards were a huge part of my and my friends childhood. The sports card industry definitely hit a wall years back. If you haven’t been paying attention, trading cards are VERY popular among many youth in our country.

I LOVE seeing that it is back!

I'll support the cause and will buy a pack. Hope others do as well. Great gift for your children.

Like everyone else back in the day I had tons of sports cards. But also like everyone else my mom threw them out after I left my home.

Could have been a multi millionaire if I still had them LOL

Not really. Nobody knew who these guys were in November.
What a way to introduce them..... you're buying them bc they are a Seton Hall team... you sell them early as a vehicle to introduce them to the fan base... once again, we're late to the party... pass the pesto...

There weren't any pictures of these guys playing in a Seton Hall uniform. Although maybe a vintage Fisher shot in a Depaul uniform on a Seton Hall card is fitting for this day and age.

I've been saying to do this for years! As anyone who has seen my posts, I am an avid collector of Seton Hall alum cards both baseball and basketball.
And for those that say card collecting is dead or not a thing anymore, jump on EBay and see how much some cards go for nowadays. Especially the rare cards. I buy and sell cards as a side hustle and it is pretty profitable.
Interested to see what the "rare" cards are that they listed - alum, parallels, autographed cards??

Look, bottom line for most of us this is for NIL.

So many complain that we don't do enough and when we try to do something it's met with criticism.

Some legit and some not. Especially one comment elsewhere that it's pricey.

Sure it's pricey but it's for a cause we should all back, helping the program.

I posted this to help SHU basketball, but like always some feel the need to pushback. I'll never understand why since we're all Pirate fans.

If you don't want to make the purchase, that's fine. But why look for something to complain about on a thread of this nature?

Here's the point of my statement.

You got 3 games left in the BE season. 3/4 of this roster will turn over. So why do I buy these now?

Rosters are set basically in the summer. You can take pics then. You want action shots? ok, first couple games. You should have been able to get them ready by Dec, put them out in the merch tables at the Rock, send out the tweet with the link. Now, you have a majority of the season to sell them.

It's just bad marketing. Its like when they introduced the new jerseys (black ones? grey? I can't recall) and they weren't available for sale until AFTER the game, which they promptly lost. They lose the momentum.

Sorry, but its always been think small at the hall...

Timing is definitely bad, should be done before the holidays.

Also, while I get for NIL, but the price point seems high to me based on trading cards in general, $30 for 20 cards. Not sure what other schools are charging, and what the "rare" cards entail.

I think the packs should also combine men & women's teams, would make collection more interesting in my opinion.

Has there been one NIL fundraising thing/event that hasn’t been criticized by this group, whose number one complaint by the way seems to bf a lack of NIL funds?
I'd be more interested in knowing which ones have been very successful. Try to build on what works.

We also have a rapidly dwindling number of members of Pirate Crew, so that's not good for one of the target markets.

Pirate Crew even at its peak only represents a tiny fraction of the base.

The SHU fans in general are very tight with the wallets when it comes to things like NIL. If that’s how they are, then so be it. The issue I have is simple - if that’s how you feel, fine. But otherwise don’t complain.

They are a VERY big thing
Maybe so, if it’s a One Piece like RU handed out at a couple of games. I had never heard of them before and they’re not college sports related. College b-ball trading cards have never ever been popular or for that matter sold to my knowledge.
Pro baseball, football & basketball were sold for decades, not so much now. (I bought them as a kid as did my sons.) Wait - college
b-ball is now semi-pro so maybe those cards will be popular if all the D-1 teams get involved and sell them like the real pros used too - by the box or with a stick of gum. 😵💫

Should have been available in Nov.
These cards are a product from a company called Athletes Thread, which does a lot in the NIL space with student-athletes. They recently started implementing trading cards company-wide, but now that this branch of their company is up and running, they intend to implement them for all their partner schools earlier in the season next year.

I remember a young Harty with his son Eddie going to trading cards and memorabilia shows. Seems like only yesterday.

Wouldn't it be something if he had a very valuable card and didn't even know it.

We had hoped these cards would have come out right around New Years. But with a new company it's not surprising that timeline was not met.

Just an FYI...When you make the purchase they will send you a short survey, And if you fill it out you will be eligible for a $10 coupon.

Go on EBay and type in Bowman U basketball and you'll see some big prices for college basketball cards that have been around for a few years. Or better yet, type in "champions deck" which is the line these cards are under. Many other big time college programs are using this same company - UConn, Purdue, Kentucky, etc. And some of them are going for decent $$$.
As for pro sports cards not being sold much now - it is a $10 BILLION market! And that is just from the card companies, not including the resale market.
Listen, I like your posts, I'm very quiet on this board but read it every day . But please stop crapping on something you don't apparently know much about. This is another way to get NIL funds for OUR team. It's not for everyone, nor is anything but it's something.
