Good stuff. Is Greek life even a thing with Gen-Z and more commuters.Easiest way to guarantee students is to do a Greek event, they have the numbers to make a difference.
Beyond that, what motivates your customer? A Gen Z student? Get 1 or 2 people with popular Tik Tok accounts to do a post about going to the game. That's where young people get their "news" and spend their attention.
Isn't that the point of a student section, to harass the visiting team?Regarding the Lobsters
I 'believe' they were disbanded due to their unruly behavior and foul language to the visiting team.
Based on looking through the staff directory, I'd argue they don't employ anyone to figure this stuff out. They may ask people who are employed for other things to figure it out, but I don't see anybody who specializes in or has a primary responsibility for filling the building. The university employs people to figure this stuff out in the Athletic Department. Perhaps the focus on it and pushing on campus this week is the type of drive needed to rectify whatever the situation may be over there.
Not reallyIsn't that the point of a student section, to harass the visiting team?
makes sense, but fewer people now live on campus then 5 yrs ago?I think it’s just the culture of the university. Over the last five years there’s been a major shift in the demographics of the university as it pertains to commuter vs non commuter. As fewer people live on campus there becomes less of a connection especially with extracurricular activities.
Calling the players and coach MFs is going beyond the line. And I was told it was incessant.Isn't that the point of a student section, to harass the visiting team?
Who knows what was communicated, but were the kids spoken to or did the school just stop it because they weren’t responding to the PA announcements?Too bad they couldn't temper it a little then, because it was definitely giving juice to the program, it would get mentioned on broadcasts routinely. Now we can't even fill Walsh. Disappointing turn but I guess just keep winning and keep trying to find ways to reach out to the students and generate interest.

Probably all living together in a basement apartment in Hoboken.Where are the lobsters???? That was a good student section during those Willard years. Bring them back!
There was a a time in the 90s where BC's Jim O'Brien got thrown out of the game at the Meadowlands, and our large student section threw anything we could pick up from the floor on him as he exited the tunnel. Never saw another ejection of a coach live and in-personNot really
Yes a lot lessmakes sense, but fewer people now live on campus then 5 yrs ago?

Fewer people or a smaller percentage of the student population?Yes a lot less
What 67 says makes sense. But why is SHU is the one school being effected by what 67 says?I can tell you what part of the problem is. It boils down to this. In the good old days the basketball team was actually made up of classmates. You know kids that came in as freshman and came to play basketball and get a degree from SHU. So for 4 years you got to know them as your classmates. Now with NIL they are hired guns for maybe a year or 2 for the most part and they come and go year after year. They come to make money and not to really be part of the SHU family of students to play and get a degree.
Back in the day I would see the basketball players that came in with me all 4 years I was attending class etc. Doesn't happen today. Hard to develop a real bond with the players today in this NIL environment. Hard to relate to them when you are dealing with paying tuition and they are getting paid. Paid big bucks.
I get the sentiment, but while I was at SHU I had 1 total class with a basketball player in it. I rarely saw them around campus and certainly didn't have a personal relationship with any of them. Of course I'm not saying my experience was everyone else's. They were there and I'm sure plenty of people did get to know them, but I'm also sure there were plenty of people like me who didn't have that personal connection but still went to games and supported the team.I can tell you what part of the problem is. It might be as simple as that. It's supposed to be fun and if you've ever been to a college football tailgate party, you get that its not just about watching a game (whether the team is winning or not). SHU has the challenge of playing off campus, but barriers can be overcome. Novel idea...ask the kids.I think many of these posts are just generationally not aligned. End of day kids want to booze, the program lost some luster yes were 9-1 but its Sat night taking a bus 30 minutes its not ideal. Thats it.
true. and much bigger student sections too.Maybe for the schools with smaller student populations it is a bigger deal. For schools with multiples of SHU students there are enough students to fill the seats and or not enough seats for students. Also take into account a lot of schools still bring in a freshman class of some size. They fill in with a few transfers.
Just take Kansas state for example. Three times the undergraduate student body. Ditto Saint Johns.

attendance was good to nwk. now it stinks. what has changed?I think Hall is Life nailed it. Transportation to & from The Rock is the main issue for those who live on campus. The cost of parking is the main issue for those who don't.
if other schools had that reaction i would agree.
