I am blessed to have a wondaful family. However, family tensions invariably occur twice a year. My wife, daughter. and sister-in law are all Georgetown graduates. Bragging rights are relished by the victors of the Georgetown-Seton Hall games. Last year at every festive family occasion our dismal season was acknowledged with a sense of enjoyment by the Hoya loyalists. I implore Mother Seton, Richie Regan. and all of those in the celestial corner reserved for Seton Hall to will a victory this Saturday at Georgetown.

The Hoyas play at DePaul tonight before hosting us Saturday night.

Mack and Lewis are good. We'll need to be on our game defensively. They dominate the ball and shots and the team is similar to us in terms of attacking the rim and not relying on the 3.

Their defense is terrible this year.

They lost a lot with Sorber, Peavy, and Fielder leaving. They should've been better than 8-12 in the BE. Not sure what's going on down there.

Good on your family for sticking it out with the Hoyas through some down years. By the looks of their arena, they might be the last 3 GU fans left.

Turridu, I know you will do the right thing and buy your family a nice dinner to soothe their wounds after the Pirates put a beating on them Saturday....

I think this is a tough game. They have not played well and may even lose today. Making them a desperate team on Saturday + coming off the high of beating Creighton. Unfortunately I see a let down on Sat.

You had a pretty good run in the dozen or so years prior to 2024-25! Chat GPT tells me we've won 15 of the last 20.

I haven't considered the whole matchup, but two things about this Georgetown team concern me: 1) they have the 2nd-lowest turnover percentage in the country, according to Bart Torvik, and 2) they're able to get to the free throw line a lot. Will our defense be able to cause chaos like it likes to do?

Can Budd stay out of foul trouble going against Mack? I assume other guards will defend him, as well.

Budd is an annoyance on defense. An absolute pest. But he must tone down that instinct early on.

This won't happen but if he gets his usual foul 2 minutes or so in. I would sit him for a minute or two and lecture him to not pick up another one and take himself possibly out of the rest of the first half.

You can't play as aggressively as he does with an early foul in the game. He has to play smarter. He's too valuable to be on the bench.

Cooley is another coach that continuously works the officials but rarely gets T'd up. Our games with them are usually ugly slug fests. Lets hope we get a crew that isn't easily swayed or intimidated.

It will be a tough BE road game against two long time rivals. I don’t see it as a let down or trap game. It’s just going to be a tough road game. Probably down to the wire so nothing new. We haven’t exactly been blowing anyone out.

agree, won't be a trap game and certainly will be two team battling it out. But wouldn't a blow out be a joy.

Hey Pirates fans, let's dive into this Big East matchup between Seton Hall and Georgetown coming up on Saturday at Capital One Arena. Both teams are in the conference mix, but Seton Hall looks like the stronger side right now with a 13-2 record (3-1 Big East) compared to Georgetown's 9-5 (1-2). I'll break down their offensive and defensive tendencies, key efficiency stats, and wrap with a score prediction based on the numbers.

Offensive Tendencies:
Seton Hall runs a deliberate, low-possession game (tempo around 66.5 possessions per game, 272nd nationally), focusing on half-court sets and capitalizing on defensive stops to transition. They're not a high-volume scoring team (73.7 PPG), but they grind it out with solid rebounding (36.4 RPG) and assists (14.5 APG). Shooting is average at 44% FG, and they don't rely heavily on threes, preferring to attack inside where they can draw fouls and block shots on the other end. Key players like Kadary Richmond (if still around) or similar guards drive the offense with playmaking.

Georgetown, on the other hand, plays at a slightly quicker pace (68.0 possessions, 203rd) and puts up more points (79.8 PPG) thanks to better ball movement (16.1 APG) and a touch higher FG% (45%). They spread the floor more, with decent three-point shooting (around 31%), and look to exploit mismatches in transition. Under Ed Cooley, they've emphasized scoring inside and out, but turnovers can be an issue against pressure.

Defensive Tendencies:
This is where Seton Hall shines—they're elite on D, allowing just 62.2 PPG (top-10 nationally) with aggressive pressure that forces mistakes (10.1 SPG) and swats shots (5.9 BPG). They pack the paint, contest everything, and rebound well to limit second chances. Opponents shoot poorly against them, and their slow tempo helps control the game.

Georgetown's defense is a weak spot, giving up 75.1 PPG with middling steals (7.5) and blocks (4.6). They struggle to contain dribble penetration and can get exposed in pick-and-rolls, leading to higher opponent FG% (around 43%). Rebounding is solid (36.9 RPG), but they don't disrupt as much, which could hurt against Seton Hall's ballhawks.

Efficiency Statistics:
Using adjusted metrics (location-neutral), Seton Hall ranks high overall (+16.3 efficiency margin). Their offensive efficiency is solid at 110.6 (130th), but defense is lockdown at 94.3 (9th best). Georgetown has a +6.5 margin, with stronger offense (114.5, 82nd) but leaky defense (108.0, 149th). In raw terms, Seton Hall's net rating edges out thanks to stifling opponents, while Georgetown's higher offensive output gets neutralized by poor stops. Recent form shows Seton Hall winning tight games (e.g., 56-54 vs. Creighton), while Georgetown has dropped two of three in conference play.

Prediction:
Seton Hall's superior defense should travel well and frustrate Georgetown's offense, especially in a road environment where the Pirates can slow things down and force turnovers. Georgetown might keep it competitive early with home energy and scoring bursts, but I see Seton Hall pulling away late. Final score: Seton Hall 76, Georgetown 69. Pirates cover as favorites and the under hits on a projected total around 145.

You hit on 2 of the keys. Georgetown is good at controlling the ball on offense. They take care of the ball, pass well and get to the FT line. They haven't shot the ball well but they have a few guys capable of getting hot. Can we create Turnovers and can we stay out of foul trouble?

Defensively they are not very good statistically despite having some good individual defenders. Getting their defensive-minded big man Vince back helps as he is an excellent shot-blocker and a big presence. They have two 7-footers and are good at guarding the rim and not giving up layups which has given us trouble lately. They are 16th in the Country in Average 2-pt shot distance.

We have to pass the ball better and take better shots than we have lately. Teams are having success packing in their defense against us and taking away Budd's passing lanes. He has to get us some points to open things up and we need better play from our guards. Our drives get cutoff around 8-12 feet from the basket and we tend to take awkward shots. Need to use the jump stop to reset on these drives and play off 2 feet to take better controlled shots and give us options to pivot, pass or shoot.

Remember this? Posters here were debating if this was some sort of grandstanding by Willard.
