Texas/Purdue game was awesome. Sean Miller did a terrific job getting this team to the Sweet 16 with a chance to beat Purdue, but he might beat himself up about having Swain as his "big" to deal with a possible offensive rebound at the end of that game. Interested to hear his thought process.
Yes. Reminded me when Willard pulled Delgado with around 10 seconds left to defend the perimeter vs Butler in the BET quarterfinals in 2018. Sure enough they defended the dribble drive well but a poor layup attempt lands in the hands of the Butler center who went over Powell for the winning put back.

Don’t like Duke but it was really hard to root for St. John’s. Realize it is better for conference. Anyway, Go UConn!! Much easier to root for Danny! Got to stop the big ten from getting 5 in elite 8. They have been impressive this year.

I'm talking specifically about Sanon and Sellers. Both are horrible, can't drive the basketball, can't guard or turn the ball over, and on top of that rarely hit jump shots. Sha would hate coaching those kids. Guaranteed. I'd take Simpkins and McCray over either. Probably Williams too.
If you can play for Pitino you can play for Sha. They wouldn’t have played the minutes they did if they didn’t play hard and defend, and they wouldn’t be a top 10 defense if those kids were turnstiles. Now those kids certainly can’t do some of the other stuff you mentioned for sure although their 3% was decent, probably a little north of what Sha is used to. It was the weak spot of their roster though no doubt.

Darling lost that game for the johnnies. He had no business chucking up 3's.
I thought Pitino made a mistake calling his last timeout with 11 seconds. He almost certainly would have called one as Darling was dribbling around hunting a 3.

Funny, when “Bells” (lol) won the game against Kansas, everyone thought it was brilliant to trust the struggling player with irrational confidence. In reality, when you let a scrub take the final shot, more often then not the result will look like….tonight.

Also Tom Izzo is one of the best and forgotten more than I will ever know about basketball, but I’m not sure having their two lumbering bigs out there at the same time is going to work chasing Karaban around 40 screens each possession.

Why wasn't Prey in the las 3 minutes or so......if that was Sha, he would have been slaughtered.
Because he is a bench/role player, and plays the same spot as their other 3 best players, who all had good games. After he makes 4 3s taking not many on the year, you think he's shooting 100% on further attempts this game, or is the law of averages going to catch up? Whether Sha would have been second-guessed, who knows, but I would have been defending Sha on that one. And he doesn't have anywhere near the credentials of the guy who made the call.

Really feel for Iowa State. They are trying to hang around this game, but losing their best player Jefferson is such a killer, because that team when everyone is healthy could play with and beat anyone in the tournament IMO.

Major props to that kid Foster on Duke, and I loathe Duke. Coming off an injury, he probably was as big of a factor in winning that game as Evans and Boozer. 11 points, 20 minutes, and most importantly handled one of the best and most relentless defenses in the country without turning the ball over once. Settled things down when SJU started to really bother Duke with the defensive pressure. If he doesn't play, the result is probably different.

What will be fascinating now is to see how his foot responds in short order to play Sunday. That can be tricky with an injury.

I was not the only one, the media is acknowledging that Pitino is one of the best but questioning why Prey didn't get more play time.
Our coach would have been grilled by some of our board.

Coaches fall back to their main guys they always have counted on during the season at the end of games. Prey would have been a smart move but Rick went with who got him there. I think it was a mistake but do you take out Hopkins who was also playing well?

Nonsense- you go with the hot player .

And on defense what do you do? Because they are gonna run ball screen/reject handoff drive and how is evans and broken foot gonna be guarded? Prey was in when Bryce was on the bench with 2 fouls. I didnt follow them as much but I would be curious to know how many total minutes prey zuby Bryce played together and what the +/- was.

I was being sarcastic lol. But it’s my fault for even thinking there could be an actual real discussion on this. Better chance asking the IRGC to give an objective take on Israel. And sure media members who haven’t won games or coached basketball or don’t even know the players half the time are going to look for clickbait angles or exercise grudges or fan-boy stuff.

Good thing is we have UConn Sunday so there can be real stuff to banter about on that one.

I don’t think Zuby played at the level that was needed against Duke to pull out the win. He had a similar game against KS but they’re not on Duke’s level. Sanon also really hurt them. Missed a few wide open 3s. When we played them he was automatic.

Zuby was playing against bigger guys and the #1 defense in the country. He and the front line played well. The guard play did in SJ.

Ruben prey is a rotational depth big for the 4 or 5. Bryce got 2 fools. Ruben came in and should be heralded for what he did. But its really a tough circumstance to play all 3 guys.
Agree. Prey is a 15 minute per game guy. He did a tremendous job but when that guy gets pushed to 25 minutes the results usually begin to falter. Pitino went with the guys who got him to the S16.
