Just 2 really sad goals. Good counter on the 1st but ball should've been cleared. 2nd there are no excuses.

I never understand why people put any energy into this program with Carlos. He will lose to mid majors at home in the NCAA tournament. Furman, New Hampshire, College of Charleston. His teams always lose to these teams. He can't beat elite teams either, his teams suck at scoring. His team that won it all, got badly outplayed by Charlotte. He's been riding that national title for decade. Continues to produce mediocre results. no one at UNC cares. So, he keeps getting contract extensions.

22 shots and 11 shots on goal were both season highs. We just could not get anything in the net. so frustrating. UAB goalie had 10 saves.

Then 2 headscratcher goals given up by the defense put a bow on a craptastic night at Dorrance Field. And beyond those two, UAB had way too many dangerous balls in the box. Easily our worst day of defense this season considering the competition. It was like our defenders did not think they had scholarship athletes and we let them make runs.

And even after our consternation, there are 4 ACC teams in the initial top 16 list including #14 UNC.

edit: this weeks loss came after the rankings were decided

I just want to say how stupid the ACC Men's Soccer Tournament format is. All 15 teams are in the tourney.

But that just means the bottom feeders who have no business and no chance making the NCAA Tournament can potentially upset higher ranked teams harming their seed or knocking them out all-together.

"On the bubble" for men's soccer is generally starts around RPI #30. Above that and you should be a lock.

Current ACC RPI rankings:
  1. UVA 6
  2. Stanford 7
  3. NCSU 9
  4. Clemson 12
  5. UNC 17
  6. Notre Dame 29
  7. dook 30
  8. SMU 34
  9. WF 39
  10. VT 43
  11. ville 46
  12. Pitt 63
  13. Cuse 72
  14. BC 83
  15. Cal 97
So yes, we want teams like #9 WF and #10 VT to have a couple more shots to pick up some quality wins, so there is a good argument for more than 8 teams.

But those bottom 12-15 teams have 1 ACC win each and have earned absolutely nothing. They have zero chance of building an NCAA resume in the ACCT; they can only win it all. And by putting them in the tourney you run the risk of a team like UNC or Clemson getting harmed. That is basically 7 play-in games and you only need to go to the ACC Network scheduling to see how much value those games have: all of them are relegated to streaming only.

If they have kept the ACCT at 12 teams, it would still be a nice, even number, and 4 teams would have earned a bye into the QF: 4 round of 16 games, 4 QF games works great for TV scheduling.

The argument against this is for those floundering teams to still have something to play for late in the regular season. But we are now just 2 regular season games left and every single one of them is still alive for a 12th place finish which would be an ACCT berth.

UNC has @ #72 RPI cuse on Friday and #30 dook at home on Halloween. If we can win out we should finish around 4th

When are we going to move on from Coach Somoano? This has become a chronically underperforming program.

Has anyone seen this?

US Soccer has made sweeping proposals on how to change college soccer.

Tons of ideas in here, but two of the most notable are a school-year long season and scrapping conferences to go to regional format with subdivisions decided by relegation.

This is proposed for both the men's and women's game.
I haven’t yet been able to fully digest this but my early reaction is it will somehow not be good for UNC soccer, especially women’s.
