I watched bit and pieces. It didn't have the oomph as in the past. Maybe that's just me.

The highlights for the USA were obviously the two Gold Medals in men's and women's hockey.

I didn't follow this closely but heard that there was a cheating scandal with Canada's curling team. How the heck do you cheat in curling? LOL

He's not wrong. I said it while watching...I wasn't aware they would go to the 3 on 3, but that is indeed a gimmick designed to end games quicker and is not truly "hockey". as he says, the NHL does not use it in the games that matter the most, the playoffs and Stanley Cup Final. Neither should the Olympics.

Was a shame to see such a well played game come to that, but that is the (current) setup and both teams had to play by the same rules. Frankly, Canada missed so many chances (including one where MacKinnon had a wide open net...and could not convert) that they only have themselves to blame.

Good for the USA (even if it was a Devil that did it...lol...as a Ranger fan not the best outcome...lol) but maybe they will consider a change, if only for the medal round games, next time.

And they say the French ice skating judges acted the part of the East Germans.

I used to ski. Getting down the mountain fast is not easy, and these tricks they do now are amazing. but for some reason I am not interested in watching a guy doing a double flip on his skis. Reminds me of the george carlin routine about hoops, and getting extra points for a halfcourt shot after jumping thru a ring of fIames

Love the trad ski events, and downhil and giant slalom are amazing in particular. Didnt see a second of the ski jumping which i like too. lol times they are a changin

That they were allowed to blatantly cheat in every way for decades is a far bigger joke. And doesnt seem they changed much, tho they lost the soviet block judges and refs. Wasn that why their athletes had to compete under a made up name in the last olympics?

They are allowed to play in the nhl…they are allowed to compete at Wimbledon etc

If they cheat catch them..no Russia again while I get it, brings the whole tournament down a little

My question, didn't Canada beat someone in OT before reaching the final game? And in that case did their coach ***** about the rules then?
lol I think they did.

I get the "sour grapes" timing of his remark...but still valid. Its like deciding a basketball tournament that is tied after regulation on a 3 point shooting contest. that's not the game.
\
plus we know how we would fare in that....yikes!

I assume this OT rule was not instituted yesterday morn.

I was shocked they played 3 on 3. But they should gave gone on record before. Like after they won their OT game. You can be right and be a sore sport at the same time

The shootout isnt normal hockey either lol.

And I bet a hockey gold game featuring the USA gets pretty good ratings. might gave wanted to lengthen the game.

Each team had the same chance to win in overtime....bottom line.
I agree all around...and agree that the game should not be decided in a gimmicky way.

Would you be ok with the Final Four decided on a game of HORSE? or a 3 point shooting contest? Even if, "all parties were well aware before the tournament?

I would hope not.

I am simply saying having the Gold medal decided in a gimmicky way should be changed; medal games should play until there is a winner. Just like the NHL realizes and does for the playoffs.

And "yes" the shootout is also a gimmick...fine for regular season, but again the NHL has the smarts to now allow that to decide a playoff game.

Simple.

Feel bad for the athletes. if we invade greenland we should we banned from 28.
Heck, Denmark doesn’t even want to keep supporting them!

By that thinking, should the 51st state be eligible for a silver medal???

Olympics boss Kirsty Coventry threatens to fire team mid-press conference in awkward moment

By Jenna Lemoncelli

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry  was caught off guard by questions about Germany and a Russian anti-doping chair, among other things, on Friday.

During a press conference ahead of Sunday’s Closing Ceremony of the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, Coventry declared that “maybe someone needs to be dismissed” from her team after she was blindsided by questions featuring topics she was not aware of.

Coventry, in her first Olympics as IOC President, turned to her team when asked for her opinion on a spokesperson for German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier saying that hosting the 2036 Olympics would be “historically problematic,” as it would mark a century since the Nazi Games.

“Frankly, and I’m looking at my team because I was not aware that Germany had made any comments in and around 2036,” Coventry said.

Mark Adams, the IOC’s communications director, chimed in, explaining, “I hadn’t seen that,” despite trying to monitor global press.

Coventry called out her team again when a New York Times reporter asked about whether “a known whistleblower” had informed the World Anti-Doping Agency that the “current chair of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency was directly involved with widespread doping surrounding the Sochi Games” in 2014 — adding The Times has information that the “IOC was aware of this.”

“OK, I’m really looking at my team and maybe someone needs to be dismissed because I’m not aware of that either,” Coventry said.

“So, but I would be very interested to find out more about it. So, if you could share it directly with me that would be very important information and knowledge.

“Well, if it’s on ‘The New York Times, again, I’m looking at my team to be like, ‘What happened, guys? Where are we?’

“I am not aware of that, but maybe we can have a conversation. My chief of staff is sitting up here in the front. It would be nice to have a conversation right after this outside. Thank you.”

Adams added, “I hadn’t heard it, so.”

Before that, Coventry was asked about FIFA leader Gianni Infantino taking part in U.S. President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace launch.

“Well, I wasn’t aware that we had an IOC member front and center… so I don’t really have much to say about it,” Coventry said.

“Again, I think that from the IOC’s point of view, we will continue to be politically neutral and I think that is the only way for us as an organization to ensure that we allow for there to be fairness on the field of play. And that’s what we’re going to continue to do as we walk into the future.”

When asked by another reporter if she will be looking into the matter, Coventry said, “Well, again, I was not aware of it. So now that you guys have made us aware of it, we’ll go back and then of course, we’ll have a look into it.

“The Olympic Charter is very clear on what it expects of its members and we will go and research into the alleged signing of documents, I guess.”

I enjoyed the Winter Olympics. Love watching sports I don't usually see and the team camraderie and sportsmanship. Thought curling was cool and all the skiing events with the crazy twists and turns and bobsled and skeleton. The scenery in Italy was beautiful and I thought the coverage this year was more about the sports and a little less on the human interest stories which I really liked. In the past they didn't show the actual sports enough but I thought the coverage was far more balanced this time. All in all I loved it. Still so happy about the big win yesterday in hockey.

I got sucked into a few events that I normally would not watch. The woman’s 28.5 km relay in cross country skiing was pretty awesome. Swedish team which was heavily favored, their lead skier fell twice and broke a binding dropping them to eighth or ninth place. They should’ve been done, but the team rallied and won the silver.

Then three days later the woman whose ski broke in that event won the individual 5000 m event, which was the final one.

And the Italian woman’s downhill scare was the oldest woman to win gold in that event at 35. She had a devastating the knee injury last year and couldn’t even walk for three months. The strength and perseverance were very impressive.

I barely watch figure skating, but Alyssa Liu was so much fun to watch and a great representative for the U.S..

I get sucked into the Winter Olympics every time. So many events that would never make it on regular tv. The speed of the bobsled, luge, downhill skiing, speed skating are incredible. Throw in things like curling and cross country it’s so cool to see when it’s on.

What did you guys think of the new (relatively) skiing events with the skiers doing tricks? It is amazing seeing that stuff as people ski down a hill. This seemed to be on TV a lot. Bur I prefer the old stuff, alpine skiing, ski-jumping, the skating events. I figure this is OMPOV.

They have tremendous athletic and acrobatic capabilities, but some of these new sports favor the bigger countries. Most of the medal winners were US, Canada, China. Almost seems like the committee adds sports to improve ratings.

Hey wait until the Summer Olympics when they have flag football as a sport.

Imagine if NFL players are allowed to compete.
